Adam and Monica left John standing outside.
John did not stop them.
He only watched as they walked away. His face stayed calm, but his eyes did not leave Adam's back until the corridor turned and both of them disappeared from view.
Adam noticed that look without turning around.
That made his mood a little better.
The restaurant was not far from the college. It was the same kind of small place students used when they wanted to talk away from the canteen noise. There were a few tables near the windows and a quieter corner near the back.
Adam chose the corner.
Monica sat across from him.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. A waiter came, placed two glasses of water on the table, and waited for the order. Adam ordered something simple. Monica gave a small nod and said the same was fine for her.
When the waiter left, Adam looked at Monica.
He expected her to take some time.
