Zoe's POV
The courtroom doors opened.
And everything inside me changed.
At first, I didn't understand why.
The room had been noisy only moments before. Lawyers speaking in hushed voices. Papers shuffling. The occasional scrape of a chair against the polished floor. Reporters whispering among themselves.
Then the doors at the far end opened and two officers walked in. A man walked between them. Wear a prisoner's uniform. He had really familiar features and the moment I saw him, my heart jumped.
For one terrifying second, I couldn't breathe.
My eyes locked onto him.
And suddenly, I didn't find myself in the courtroom anymore.
I was somewhere cold and distant. Somewhere dark and alone. Like I was trapped.
The freezer.
My body remembered before my mind could catch up.
I saw the tattoo
A black shape curling along the side of his neck.
The same tattoo that I pictured in my nightmares and never lost idea of
I knew him. Painfully so. He was same man.
My fingers went numb.
