Zoe's POV
The girl lingered by the doorway as if she already belonged there, which made me even more uncomfortable.
Her smile was bright and practiced, yet there was something about it that didn't reach her eyes. They darted around the suite quickly, taking in details, measuring, and watching. I tightened my grip on Brandon's sleeve without realizing it.
He noticed. His thumb brushed lightly against the back of my hand before he slowly let go, though his body remained slightly in front of mine like a shield.
The girl casually pushed a strand of dark hair behind her ear. "My name's Raven," she said. "I'm a temporary event assistant. Zara mentioned you girls might need extra hands tonight."
Ashley immediately folded her arms, her suspicion evident. Very typical of Ashley. "Extra hands?" she repeated. "We already had someone assigned."
