Chapter 184 - Chapter 184: Attacking Vulnerabilities

[Third Person Pov]

Spectra was struck down from the skies and landed in the middle of a wide golf course, the dirt and grass erupting violently from the force of her rough landing as her body slammed into the ground. She slid backwards across the torn earth for several meters, her boots carving trenches through the grass while her hand dug deeply into the soil in an attempt to slow herself and regain control of her momentum.

She spat a mouthful of green blood off to the side, the thick liquid splattering against the grass before evaporating into faint wisps of ghostly energy. Slowly she rose back to her feet, shoulders rising and falling with controlled breaths as five additional Danny's struck down from the sky after her in rapid succession, landing across the ruined golf course like meteors descending from the heavens.

Each one wielded a different portion of his ghostly power. One of them hovered in the air with both palms extended forward, unleashing rapid blasts of concentrated Ghost Rays that streaked through the air like emerald bolts of lightning. Another raised his hand and caused intense green flames to dance and coil around his fingertips before thrusting his arm forward and unleashing a continuous stream of scorching ghost fire. A different Danny opened his mouth wide before releasing a devastating ghostly wail, the sheer force of the sonic attack powerful enough to visibly distort the air around it as it ripped forward in a violent shockwave. Meanwhile the remaining two were creating dense, compact constructs of spectral energy, shaping them into solid weapons and barriers that shimmered with condensed ghost power.

Spectra was visibly struggling against the relentless barrage as the multiple Danny's surrounded her and attacked from different angles, their combined powers hammering down on her without pause as they ganged up on her with overwhelming coordination.

Spectra fought back using her Ghost Stringer and telekinesis, thin razor sharp strands of spectral energy lashing outward from her fingers while invisible telekinetic force slammed into incoming attacks and attempted to crush the clones themselves. At the same time Ghost Rays erupted violently from her palms and even from across the surface of her body, explosive blasts of energy firing in every direction as she tried to keep the clones at bay.

The golf course was quickly overturned and completely devastated by the escalating battle. Carefully trimmed grass was ripped apart and uprooted as explosions erupted across the landscape, craters forming wherever blasts collided with the ground. Beams of energy tore across the terrain, flashes of ghost fire scorched the earth black, and violent shockwaves shattered sections of land as the once pristine course was reduced to a chaotic battlefield.

Spectra gritted her teeth, the corner of her lips stained with streaks of her own green blood as a powerful sonic blast struck the side of her head. The force sent her flying backwards through the air before she twisted her body and barely managed to dodge a bolt of blazing emerald fire that shot past her shoulder and exploded behind her.

Spectra wasn't typically a physical fighter, nor was she someone who preferred to solve her problems through brute force or direct confrontation. What she truly excelled at was manipulation. Whether it was mental manipulation or emotional manipulation, bending people to her will was as natural and effortless for her as molding clay with bare hands. People's emotions, insecurities, fears, and regrets were tools she could easily twist to her advantage.

And luckily for her, and unfortunately for Danny, he was about as emotional and vulnerable as they came.

Her lips slowly curled into a mocking grin as she floated in the air, eyes gleaming with malicious delight.

"Hahaha, I have to say brat, the misery that's rolling off your shoulders is absolutely delectable. I can practically taste it in the air already, and I can't wait to truly savor it!"

"You'll do more than just taste it," Danny said with a taunting, snarling grin of his own as one of his attacks collided head on with Spectra's, their energies clashing violently for a brief moment in a blinding flash of green light. "I'll make sure you choke on it."

"Hahaha how delightful!" Spectra laughed loudly, clearly amused by his defiance. "But you want to know what else I can smell from you apart from that wonderful self-loathing of yours?! I can smell the guilt! The grief! The regret! Such delicious emotions!" Her grin widened as her eyes sharpened with predatory interest. "You want to know who else carries emotions like that? Killers! You've killed before, haven't you!?"

As she spoke the two of them launched back into the skies, their battle continuing high above the devastated golf course as blasts of spectral energy streaked across the air.

A sudden rush of anger and rage surged through Danny as his breath caught sharply in his throat. For a split second his focus faltered, his emotions spiking violently. Spectra noticed the hesitation immediately and seized the opportunity without hesitation, darting forward and destroying one of his clones in a sudden burst of power.

"Don't talk about something you know nothing about!!" All four remaining Danny's roared simultaneously as they charged forward with far more ferocity than before.

Spectra grinned wider as she saw the reaction she had been hoping for. She began to taunt Danny relentlessly, deliberately pressing against his emotional weak points. The more she spoke, the more she struck at thoughts and insecurities Danny himself secretly struggled with but never openly admitted.

And with every word she spoke, Danny grew angrier. His rage clouded his judgment, and his attacks began to lose their precision and coordination.

"Your emotions make you an open book," Spectra mocked as she effortlessly weaved through incoming attacks. "You're far too easy to read. That guilt and grief of yours tell me everything I need to know. They tell me that you caused the death of someone close to you."

She tilted her head slightly, pretending to think as she continued speaking.

"The self-loathing filling your mind tells me the rest. Whoever it was, they clearly mattered a great deal to you."

"Perhaps a friend? No… no, that doesn't feel quite right."

"A girlfriend? Hmm, no that doesn't fit either."

Her grin widened slowly as realization dawned.

"Ahh, now I see it clearly. It was family, wasn't it?!"

"You killed your own family, didn't you?" she laughed cruelly. "Wow… talk about a bastard."

Spectra immediately knew she had struck the truth when Danny's attacks suddenly became far more aggressive and reckless. His rage boiled over, causing him to abandon careful strategy in favor of pure anger.

And that anger left him vulnerable.

Spectra quickly lashed out and struck another one of his clones as it left itself wide open during an attack. However instead of destroying it immediately, she drove her clawed hand straight through its chest and held it there for a moment. Pink strands of spectral energy surged from the clone into her palm as she forcibly extracted the raw emotions stored within it, draining every bit of readily available emotional energy before finally finishing it off.

Her spectral aura surged violently as the stolen emotions fueled her power. The ghostly energy within her body spiked dramatically, flashing through her glowing eyes as her strength rapidly increased.

Now empowered by the emotions she had stolen, Spectra's power swelled to the point where she could easily contend with the remaining three Danny's simultaneously.

Although she had been easily overpowered earlier, all Spectra had truly managed to do now was bring the battle to an even ground.

The three Danny's, despite still being filled with rage, were far from mindless or berserk. They still retained their awareness and discipline, coordinating their movements and attacks with each other with practiced precision. Their assaults were relentless and brutal, each strike landing along Spectra's body with crushing force.

Danny suddenly appeared in front of her with his fist already cocked back. In the next instant he drove it straight into her stomach with overwhelming strength. The impact was powerful enough to fold her body in half, forcing the air from her lungs as she was sent flying backwards across the sky directly toward where another Danny had already positioned himself.

The second Danny opened his mouth wide and unleashed a devastating ghost wail. The sonic blast slammed into Spectra with immense physical force the moment she flew into its path. Her body twisted violently as the attack struck, the air around her rippling from the pressure while her form was mangled by the impact. She tumbled uncontrollably through the air, a long trail of green blood following behind her like a streak across the night sky.

Spectra forced herself to stop midair, her body jerking to a halt through sheer effort. A low growl rumbled through her chest as her broken body slowly began to regenerate, bones shifting back into place and torn flesh knitting itself together.

But before she could fully recover another Danny appeared in front of her in the blink of an eye.

Her eyes widened as emerald flames suddenly flared around his arm, the fire spiraling violently from his shoulder down to his clenched fist. Without hesitation he drove another punch into her stomach. This time however the angle of the blow forced her body upward, launching her toward the sky.

The fire that coated his arm traveled forward with the strike, flowing from the top of his shoulders, through his arm, and out through his fist.

The flames detonated the moment his punch connected.

A violent explosion erupted from the impact point, sending a powerful shockwave rippling through the air. Rings of compressed air formed around Spectra's body as the blast accelerated her upward at incredible speed, her form tearing through the sky like a projectile.

They had risen above a towering parking structure when the third Danny suddenly appeared above her.

He wielded a massive spectral Morningstar formed entirely from condensed ghost energy. With an enraged roar he swung the heavy weapon downward and smashed it directly against Spectra's back.

The impact was devastating.

Her spine snapped audibly from the blow as the force drove her straight downward.

Spectra plummeted like a meteor and crashed into the parking structure below. Her body tore violently through multiple concrete floors as she fell, smashing through each level one after another before finally slamming into the lowest level with explosive force.

A massive crater formed beneath her broken body, chunks of concrete and debris scattering outward in all directions. The entire structure trembled violently from the impact, sections of the building threatening to crumble as the ground itself shook like a localized earthquake that rippled through several nearby blocks.

Spectra slowly rolled onto her back within the crater she had created. Her body was twisted and deformed, limbs bent at unnatural angles as green blood oozed from countless wounds. Her skin was scorched and covered in burn marks from the earlier explosion.

She opened her mouth and coughed violently, another thick stream of green blood spilling out.

Her crazed eyes slowly lifted upward toward the massive opening she had torn through the parking structure during her fall. Dust and broken debris rained down around her as the night air drifted through the hole above.

Still, she began to laugh.

Her laughter echoed through the ruined structure as she stared upward at the three Danny's standing above the opening, their figures hovering in the night sky as they looked down at her with cold, impassive expressions.

Danny's eyes had narrowed into glowing green pinpoints in the darkness. The fury burning behind them was impossible to hide after Spectra had so deliberately toyed with his deepest vulnerabilities.

Yet Spectra only laughed harder.

"Hahaha… you really are an open book," she said through a twisted grin. "Reading you isn't even a challenge. Your heroic nature most likely stems from that crushing guilt you carry inside you. How utterly pathetic."

Her body had healed just enough for her to move. She slowly reached up and grabbed the edge of the crater before dragging herself upright, pieces of broken concrete crumbling under her grip.

"Your insecurities, your fears, you wear them all on your sleeve," she continued mockingly. "Tell me hero, how many more people will die because of you? Your friends? Your lover? How many more names will you add to your growing kill count?"

All three Danny's jaws visibly clenched.

Their fists tightened so hard that their knuckles popped audibly as anger surged through them.

Without another word all three shot downward toward Spectra simultaneously, each one moving with explosive speed. Their intention was clear. They wanted to silence her, to make her stop speaking about things she had no right to speak about.

Spectra's long hair fell forward and covered much of her face as the rushing air from their descent whipped it wildly around her.

A smirk slowly spread across her lips as the three Danny's closed in.

Her body suddenly began to shift and distort.

Then an explosion of writhing shadows burst outward from her form as Spectra transformed. Her body dissolved into a mass of dark, amorphous energy, her previous injuries vanishing beneath the formless nature of her new state.

The first two Danny's reached her first.

And in this form they were easy prey.

Spectra lunged forward like a living shadow and seized them both. Dark tendrils wrapped around their bodies as she began draining the emotions directly from them. The moment their emotions were stripped away their strength collapsed with them, leaving them weakened and unable to properly fight back.

Once she had drained everything she could from them, she finished them off without hesitation.

Their forms dissipated into fading ghostly energy.

Leaving only one Danny remaining.

The last Danny hovered above the ruined parking structure and slowly took a deep breath.

He forced himself to calm down, trying desperately to suppress the boiling rage inside him as he focused entirely on Spectra.

He couldn't afford to make any more mistakes.

He couldn't allow himself to lose control.

He wasn't allowed to be emotional anymore.

But against an opponent like Spectra, that was far easier said than done.
