Chapter 547 - Chapter 547: Battle Zone

Chapter 547: Battle Zone

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Next Day, Battle Zone – Battle Tower]

The morning sun cast long shadows across the rugged terrain of the Battle Zone, painting the outskirts of the Sinnoh Region in hues of orange and gold. A cool breeze, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth, swept through the vast arena, rustling the banners that bore the emblem of the Battle Frontier.

Here, where the spirit of competition burned brightest, stood Palmer, the Tower Tycoon, a man whose presence filled the air with an almost palpable energy. Palmer's voice boomed, resonating across the otherwise quiet grounds like a joyful thunderclap, "Alright, everyone! Up and at 'em!"

*CLAP*

He clapped his hands together, a broad, infectious grin stretching across his face. Three figures stood before him: Dahlia, the vibrant Arcade Star, her colorful attire a stark contrast to the dawn's muted palette; Thorton, the analytical Factory Head, already adjusting the glasses perched on his nose; and Argenta, the serene Hall Matron, her eyes holding a quiet intensity.

Palmer continued, his voice laced with an almost boyish excitement, "As of today, the floodgates are open! More trainers than ever before are on their way, eager to test their mettle against the best!"

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the trio, adding, "You know the drill. Brace yourselves! You are the Frontier Brains, after all! Remember your posts: Dahlia, the Battle Arcade awaits your charm and luck! Thorton, your logical mind is needed at the Battle Factory! And Argenta, the tranquil Battle Hall, is calling your gentle strength!"

They nodded, preparing to disperse.

A blur of motion erupted from the periphery...

*WHOOSH-SNATCH*

A jagged, bone-shaped projectile carved through the air with astonishing speed, aimed directly at Palmer. The Tower Tycoon, ever alert, reacted in a flash, but before he could fully bring up his arm, a lean, cloaked figure darted in, a hand shooting out to intercept the weapon.

Palmer chuckled, not a hint of surprise in his voice, "Good catch, Riley!"

The man, Riley, a figure of calm strength, caught the bone with practiced ease. Beside him, a sleek Lucario stood at attention, its aura sensors twitching ever so slightly. he observed, his voice steady as he turned to face Palmer, the bone a natural extension of his arm, "Bonemerang, indeed."

Palmer playfully chided, "Always with the dramatic entrances, you two. Here to make sure the facilities are up to standard, I presume?"

Riley offered a small, knowing smile. He gestured around with his retrieved Bonemerang, informing Palmer, "It's been a month since the Battle Zone opened, Palmer. And I must say, it looks far better maintained than some of the other facilities I visited on my trip. A testament to your dedication."

Palmer beamed, puffing out his chest slightly, and proudly said, "High praise coming from you, Riley! Glad to hear Lucario's senses are still sharp, too."

He then lowered his voice, a conspiratorial glint in his eye. He asked excitedly with an eager grin in an excited tone, "Speaking of visitors... we have a truly special one arriving today. A certain Frontier Conqueror..."

Palmer paused, letting the words hang in the air, building suspense. Then, his grin widened, turning into an eager, almost predatory smile. His eyes sparkled with anticipation as he said calmly, "He's here. Azure Sky is here to challenge us! The first to conquer the Hoenn Battle Frontier, and now he's waiting to challenge me!"

Riley's calm demeanor gave way to an expression of genuine intrigue. He nodded slowly, his eyes now alight with an eager curiosity.

He mused, the name holding a certain weight, "Azure Sky. I've certainly heard the rumors. Whispers of him wielding Aura, or perhaps even Psychic Powers. Not only that, but I heard tell of his Riolu... learning Aura Sphere. An impossible feat for one so young, unless it possessed an extremely rare and profound talent in Aura."

Lucario let out a low growl of agreement, its own aura flaring momentarily, "Arc! (Indeed, Sir Riley. This Lucario must be extremely one in the ways of Aura.)"

Palmer declared, slapping Riley on the shoulder, "Impossible is just a word, my friend! And Azure Sky seems to delight in making the impossible, possible!"

He then turned sharply, striding towards a large, polished intercom panel affixed to a stone pillar. He grinned eagerly as he declared, "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's give him a proper Sinnoh welcome!"

*BZZZZZT*

Palmer pressed a button, and his voice, amplified to a staggering degree, echoed through the entire Battle Zone, "Attention, all trainers! The gates are now open! Welcome to the Sinnoh Battle Frontier! Prepare yourselves for the challenge of a lifetime!"

*CREEEEEAK—RUMBLE*

With a groaning symphony of metal and stone, the colossal gates leading from the Resort Area began to slowly draw open, revealing a vibrant, eager crowd pulsating with anticipation. The murmur of a thousand voices swelled into a roar, a wave of excitement washing over the Battle Zone.

Palmer leaned back from the intercom, rubbing his hands together. He shook excitedly in anticipation, yelling, "Oh, I can't wait for the chance to battle him! It's been far too long since I've faced a challenger of this caliber!"

[Sinnoh Region, Meanwhile, Battle Zone – Fight Area]

The scene shifted to the Fight Area, the main hub of the Battle Zone. Trainers, a diverse tapestry of young and old, novices and veterans, poured through the now fully open gates from the Resort Area. Their excited chatter and enthusiastic calls filled the air, a symphony of ambition and dreams.

Among the throng, seemingly unfazed by the bustling energy, walked Azure. At 16, he carried an air of quiet confidence, his eyes scanning his surroundings with practiced ease. Perched casually on his shoulder was his faithful partner, Pikachu, its cheeks sparking faintly with a subtle energy. On his head, Eevee, ever curious, swiveled its ears, taking in the sights and sounds. And nestled comfortably in the front pocket of Azure's jacket, a tiny Pichu (Mew) occasionally peeked out, its bright eyes observing the world with mischievous delight.

Azure commented, a small smile playing on his lips, "Wow, this place is packed. Sounds like everyone's just as eager to challenge the facilities as we are."

From the shadows that clung to Azure's form, a faint shimmer appeared, solidifying into the mischievous, grinning face of his Gengar. Her spectral eyes gleamed. Gengar's voice, a low, playful rasp, was audible only to Azure and his Pokémon, "Tell me about it, Boss! They all think they're ready for the big leagues. Cute, isn't it?"

As they navigated through the dense crowd, a peculiar sight caught Gengar's attention. Gengar chuckled, pointing a translucent finger, "Oooh, look, a little metal bird! Didn't think the Starly line had Steel typing?"

Indeed, a small, metallic Starly robot whirred into view, its optical sensors glowing a soft blue. It moved with a jerky, almost robotic grace, acting as a guide for the newly arrived trainers.

The robot chirped, its voice synthesized and devoid of emotion, "Welcome, trainers, to the Sinnoh Battle Frontier! Here, you will find five unique facilities designed to test your skills and spirit! The Battle Factory, the Battle Arcade, the Battle Castle, the Battle Hall, and the Battle Tower! Please select your first challenge!"

Azure politely waved a hand as he replied, "Thank you, little Starly, but we're good. I've already done my homework on all the facilities before coming here."

Gengar floated closer to Azure's ear, whispering, "Always prepared, aren't we, Boss? No fun in surprises, eh?"

Azure chuckled softly. He addressed his Pokémon, his voice imbued with a quiet determination, stating, "Some surprises are good, Gengar. But when it comes to strategy, preparation is key. Alright, team! Our goal here is simple: conquer all five facilities. We've done it in Hoenn; we can do it here."

Pikachu chirped excitedly, electricity crackling around its cheeks. Eevee nudged Azure's head in agreement, and Pichu (Mew) let out a tiny, hopeful cry from his pocket.

Gengar chimed in, circling Azure with a playful swirl of purple, "And what a varied challenge it'll be! The Battle Factory, remember, uses rental Pokémon. No familiar faces there, just pure strategic adaptability!"

Azure nodded, recalling the notes he'd memorized, adding in a cool tone of voice, "Right. And the Battle Arcade features a giant roulette wheel. The results of that spin can affect everything, from our Pokémon's stats to the battlefield itself. It's all about luck mixed with skill."

Gengar continued, a more serious tone creeping into its voice, "Then there's the Battle Castle. Where you manage 'Castle Points,' borrowing items, and buying information about your opponents. A test of resource management, not just brute strength."

Azure added while bobbing his head sagely, "And the Battle Hall, where Argenta lets you pick your opponents for one-on-one battles, allowing you to focus on specific matchups. A great way to fine-tune individual Pokémon skills."

Gengar finished, a flourish in its ghostly movements, "Finally, the Battle Tower. The simplest, yet often the toughest. Just like the ones in Johto and Hoenn, you battle trainer after trainer, climbing your way to the very top! Pure endurance and strength."

Excited at the thought of the challenges ahead, Azure continued moving, letting his instincts guide him to which Facility to challenge first. The air thrummed with the energy of thousands of Pokémon and trainers, but suddenly, a different kind of energy cut through the cacophony...

*Hummmm*

A strong psychic presence, like a silent, resonating hum, grabbed his attention, pulling at his very senses. He stopped, turning his head instinctively towards the source.

His eyes found a young woman, her long, flowing hair a striking contrast to her composed, almost ethereal demeanor. She was staring directly at him, her gaze unnervingly intense, yet oddly serene.

Azure asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice, "Are you... staring at me?"

The woman didn't flinch. She simply nodded, her eyes still locked on his. She asked, her voice soft, almost a whisper, yet it cut through the noise with surprising clarity, "You are Azure Sky, aren't you?"

Azure nodded in confirmation, adding, "That's me."

The moment the word left his lips, a flash of movement erupted from beside her!

*SWISH—CRACKLE*

A Pokémon, fast as thought, launched itself towards Azure. He reacted instantly, relying on instinct honed by countless battles. He twisted, a blur of motion, just as a shimmering, psychic blade sliced through the air where his head had been moments before!

*Whooosh*

The attack missed by mere inches, leaving a faint, tingling sensation in its wake!

Azure exclaimed, his voice sharper now, assessing the situation, "Gallade!"

*POP*

He retaliated with his own Pokémon in a seamless, fluid motion. From his side, his own Gallade materialized, its arm blades glowing with a faint psychic energy. Azure observed, noting the lingering psychic residue in the air, "That was Psycho Cut! A psychic blade capable of cutting through objects."

He narrowed his eyes as he said to the lady in front of him, "And it looks like your Gallade is protecting you, ma'am."

Azure's Gallade, a formidable warrior, looked at the opposing Gallade with a challenging grin. Its arm blades hummed with power, and in an impressive display of psychic prowess, it began to materialize a large, shimmering spoon, sculpted from pure Psywave energy. It was a subtle yet unmistakable challenge, a silent declaration of power.

The woman observed the exchange, her expression unchanged. Her Gallade, however, met the challenge with an equally intense gaze, its own blades pulsing with readiness. The air between the two powerful Psychic-Fighting types crackled with unspoken tension.

But before the battle could truly ignite, the woman simply turned around. Without a word, without a glance back, she began to walk away, her movements graceful and unhurried. She headed directly for the grand, imposing entrance of the Battle Castle, a structure resembling a fortified Gothic fortress.

Azure watched her go, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. He then noticed her effortlessly cutting a path through the long line of trainers already queuing for the Castle. Not a single trainer protested, as if her presence commanded an unspoken respect.

Azure murmured, slightly bewildered, "She just... walked away."

Then, a realization dawned on him. He muttered cheekily, "And cut the line without anyone batting an eye. She must be a resident, one of the elite trainers here. Her Gallade's power certainly backed that up. Just as expected of Caitlin."

His own Gallade, still holding its Psywave-conjured spoon, let out a frustrated growl. It obviously wanted to continue the challenge, to test its strength against its powerful counterpart in a duel of blades.

Azure said calmly, patting his Gallade's arm, easing him, "Easy, boy. We'll get our chance. If she's a resident, she's probably one of the Frontier Brains here. We'll run into her again eventually."

Azure and his Pokémon then found their place at the back of the long line for the Battle Castle. Despite its length, Azure noticed the queue was moving surprisingly quickly. Almost too quickly. As he observed, he saw trainers entering the Castle, only to emerge moments later, looking dejected. Most seemed to lose a couple of battles.

Gengar, floating beside him, hummed, "Looks like this facility is quite difficult, Boss. They're dropping like flies!"

Azure pulled out his Arc Phone, quickly reviewing the Battle Castle's rules and structure. He said calmly, "You're right. It says here that trainers confront the Frontier Brain at the 21st battle. If most of these guys are losing after two or three, that means Darach or Lady Caitlin's regular staff are already quite formidable."

With a nod of determination, Azure tightened his grip on his Arc Phone, muttering, "Well then, let's show them what a Frontier Conqueror can do."

He stepped forward as the line moved, finally entering the imposing gates of the Battle Castle…

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Fight Area – Battle Castle]

The interior of the Battle Castle was a marvel of Gothic architecture, grand and stately. Soaring arches, intricate tapestries depicting heroic Pokémon, and polished stone floors created an atmosphere of dignified challenge. Soon, Azure was guided by an attendant through a maze of corridors to an open-air battlefield, an impressive arena nestled amidst the castle walls.

A man in an impeccably tailored butler's uniform stood at the center, his posture ramrod straight, a polite yet firm expression on his face. This was Darach, the Battle Butler. He announced, his voice smooth and clear, "Welcome, challenger. I am Darach, and I shall be your judge for this preliminary round. This will be a three-on-three Pokémon battle. Please present your chosen Pokémon."

Azure already knew which three he would pick. He had sized up the initial challengers and felt confident in his choices.

He reached for his Poké Balls and, with a confident toss of the third, declared, "Alright, Darach! Let's go! Gallade, Magmortar, Froslass! To battle!"

*WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH*

In a trio of brilliant flashes, his chosen Pokémon materialized on the field. Gallade stood ready, its psychic blades subtly glowing. Magmortar, its cannons smoking, rumbled with latent power. Froslass, ethereal and graceful, drifted silently, radiating a chilling aura around herself.

His opponent, a stern-looking trainer, sent out a Machamp, a Claydol, and a Golem. The battle began, and Azure wasted no time, demonstrating his strategic prowess. Azure commanded, his voice sharp and decisive, "Gallade, use Close Combat on Machamp!"

*CRACK—THWACK*

Gallade blurred forward, a flurry of powerful, rapid-fire strikes landing on the Superpower Pokémon. Machamp reeled, barely able to defend itself before Gallade finished with a powerful kick!

*KAPOW-THUD*

Machamp crashed to the ground, unconscious. Next came Golem as Azure barked, "Magmortar, Flamethrower on Golem!"

*ROOOAAARR-SIZZLE*

Magmortar's arm cannons flared, a torrent of superheated flames erupting and engulfing the rock PokémonGolem, despite its rock-hard defense, it couldn't withstand the intense heat, collapsing in a cloud of steam.

*THUD*

Froslass gracefully glided against the Claydol next. Azure barked, "Froslass, Ice Beam on Claydol!"

*SHIIIING-CRACKLE*

Froslass unleashes a piercing beam of ice that strikes Claydol with pinpoint accuracy. The ancient clay Pokémon froze solid, then shattered into pieces, incapacitated. The battle was concluded swiftly and decisively. Azure's Pokémon, perfectly coordinated, had overwhelmed their opponents with superior power and strategy.

Darach's usually composed demeanor softened into a pleased smile. He started, "An exemplary performance, challenger! Your Pokémon display remarkable synergy and strength. Very impressive indeed."

He then looked towards a raised platform at the far end of the arena, where the young woman Azure had encountered earlier now sat, observing the battles with an impassive gaze. Darach said calmly, "This could very well be the challenger Lady Caitlin has been looking for."

Azure followed Darach's gaze, looking up at the platform. His eyes met the unblinking stare of the woman. A flicker of recognition, then certainty, crossed his face. He deduced, a slight smirk touching his lips, "So, she is Lady Caitlin."

He then turned back to Darach as he asked, "And you, I presume, are her valet?"

Darach chuckled softly, a polite, almost imperceptible shake of his head, introducing himself, "As I already introduced myself, I am Darach. I am Lady Caitlin's Battle Butler and the judge for the Battle Castle."

He gestured towards Azure's Pokémon, stating, "Excellent work by your team, but also note their current state, if you please."

Azure glanced at his Pokémon. Gallade was breathing heavily, Magmortar's flames were dimming, and Froslass, while still graceful, seemed less vibrant. Even with a swift victory, the intensity of the Battle Castle's preliminary battles had taken its toll.

He realized that this wasn't just about winning battles; it was about longevity. He'd need to conserve his team's energy. He muttered, "Right, I might need to use those Castle Points I read about..."

Darach nodded, his smile returning as he explained the rules of Castle Points, "Precisely. Castle Points, or CP, are vital here. You earn them through battles, and you can spend them on various advantages. For example, information about your next opponent costs 1 point, items to give your Pokémon cost 2 points, and full health recovery for your entire team costs 10 points."

He looked directly at Azure, a challenge in his eyes as he added, "The Battle Castle is not merely a test of strength, but of resource management. You must manage your points wisely to reach Lady Caitlin. Do you understand, Azure Sky?"

Azure nodded, a determined glint in his eyes. He pulled out his Arc Phone, tapping the screen to bring up his current CP balance and the options available. His lips curled into a wide, eager grin. This was exactly the kind of strategic challenge he relished. He felt a thrill of excitement course through him.

Azure declared, his voice filled with renewed resolve, "Understood, Darach. I'm more than ready for the battle ahead."
