"Oh, is my brother pleading with me?" Matthew Saxon curled his lips, his long eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke slowly, "Rest assured, Brother, I have principles in what I do. I won't falsely accuse innocent people. Whether Aunt Denton is being wronged, without conclusive evidence, I dare not jump to conclusions."
Maxwell Saxon braced himself on the table, his lips pressed tightly together. He remained silent for a few seconds, then said, "Mom didn't know about it. When I gave her that medicine back then, she didn't know it would be so toxic. She had feelings for your dad. If she had known early on that it would have such severe consequences, she wouldn't have done it."
"I promised her that it wouldn't harm Roy Saxon. She thought the medicine would at most make your dad sleep for a while. It was I who deceived her, taking advantage of her trust and dependence on me to deceive her."
"She is innocent, and all responsibility lies with me."
