Chapter 96 - 118

Chapter 118 Believing in me is believing in the country

Back at the Liao family manor, it was already 4:30 in the afternoon. Looking at his daughter who had dashed into the room, Liao Wenchang frowned and looked at Zhao Yunlu. The latter quickly walked up to him and explained the whole story to the chairman in Cantonese.

Liao Wenchang knew his daughter's temperament, so he shook his head with a wry smile and said nothing. Perhaps it was a good thing for her to suffer a little.

"Mr. Chen, what's the next step?"

Chen Cheng did not answer him, but instead asked, "Will you stay at home tonight or go to the safe house provided by the police?"

Liao Wenchang was taken aback, and after a moment of thought, he said, "Should I believe you or the police?"

"That depends on your true intentions. Since the capital city officials sent us here, it means they fully believe that we can help you overcome this crisis. And how can the country forget the contributions you have made to the country?"

Liao Wenchang carefully considered Chen Cheng's words and instantly understood: "I believe you, Mr. Chen!"

"Alright, since you've chosen to trust us, I'll also make a statement. Please rest assured, firstly, we will definitely protect you and your family, and secondly, we will definitely help you eliminate this potential threat!"

"This hidden danger? You mean, "?"

"Mr. Liao, let me put it this way: you are a big shot in Hong Kong's business world, and your opponents are basically on the same level as you. If they can do it once, they can do it again. Only if you solve this problem at its root will your career and family be free from worries!"

Liao Wenchang fell silent again. Of course he understood that Chen Cheng was right. He was not afraid of the business wars of the Ming Dynasty, but he was afraid of these underhanded opponents who would resort to conspiracies and tricks from time to time!

She couldn't help but put aside her contempt for the young man before her. He wasn't even as old as her second son, yet he seemed so composed and experienced, speaking with impeccable tact, his eyes clear and bright, as if he could see through everything! How wonderful it would be if her second son could be like him!

Liao Wenchang chose to stay at home, which shows that he chose to trust Chen Cheng, the country, and the emperor would not send an unknown person to fob him off.

With the boss staying at home, bodyguard captain Tang Long was under a lot of pressure and immediately began to rearrange things. Chen Cheng walked up to him and said, "Captain Tang, could you send someone to take me to the scene of the crime?"

As the team leader, Tang Long knew some key details. He knew that Chen Cheng and the white-haired man were sent by a special department in the capital to help Liao Wenchang, which did not conflict with his own duties. So he politely said, "No problem, I'll take you there myself."

"Thanks"!

Tang Long led the two out of the villa and towards the back garden. They chatted as they walked. Through their conversation, they learned that Tang Long was thirty-four years old, from eastern Guangdong, and had served in a national special forces unit. After retiring, he came to Hong Kong as a bodyguard through his instructor's introduction and worked there for seven years. Due to his proficiency and excellent qualities, he was highly appreciated by the senior management of the security company. So, he was recommended to a major client, Liao Wenchang, and became his team leader.

"Brother Xiao Cheng, this is the place where Li Bo's body, the victim's body, was found that morning!"

Chen Cheng crouched down to examine the area carefully, but unfortunately, there were no traces or bloodstains on the lawn. It seemed that the monster attacked Li Bo from behind, and he lost his life before he could fight back!

Chen Cheng stood up and looked at the main villa, which he estimated to be about 30 meters away. He then walked around the back garden. The security measures here were indeed quite good. The manor wall was four meters high, and there were two-way cameras every ten meters. Under surveillance, there were no blind spots in the entire wall and yard!

"Let's go check the video from the security cameras!"

Tang Long's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this: "Okay, but the surveillance footage is very strange. The police station has also taken a copy, but they haven't given an explanation yet!"

The monitoring room was very large, about 20 or 30 square meters. One wall was covered with screens, each displaying footage from cameras inside the manor. Chen Cheng looked closely and found there were as many as 50 or 60 screens. While one screen was fine to look at individually, the sheer number of screens was overwhelming!

Tang Long asked his staff to find the video from that night. It showed a young man typing away on a keyboard, and the largest screen in the middle switched the view.

The footage is clearly from nighttime, but the infrared camera still captures a fairly clear image. Two pit bulls are playing together, and their eyes occasionally flash brightly through the camera. The light in the dog's eyes is actually an optical effect; the light is reflected by the choroidal blanket, making the dog's eyes appear particularly bright in the nighttime video!

It's estimated that the technicians edited the video. Soon, something strange happened: one of the dogs, which had been jumping around, suddenly lay down and didn't move. Another dog, as if startled, ran about three meters away, then, as if worried about its companion, lowered its head and sniffed at the lying dog. Suddenly, it too collapsed to the ground and never got up again. Because it was so quiet, no one noticed. Tang Long had just mentioned that the camera on the wall had thermal imaging sensors, and that the monitoring room would sound an alarm if someone or an animal crossed the area. However, for the two nights after the incident, the monitoring room didn't receive any alarm signals!

Then, the staff started the next video. A figure staggered as if drunk to the grass and stood up. Then his body convulsed and he collapsed to the ground a minute later!

"This is the whole process of Li Bo's victimization. He didn't see any people or animals, and he was instantly turned into a dried corpse!"

Tang Long's voice was low and somber. Li Bo was also one of the bodyguards. His comrade had left so silently, and as the team leader, Tang Long was naturally very saddened.

Chen Cheng didn't speak, but said to the staff, "Play back the video, but in a slower way!"

The staff followed his instructions and started playing the video again, but the speed was changed from the normal 1 to 0.5. The video once again showed a staggering figure walking step by step.

"stop"!

The staff immediately pressed the pause button.

"Zoom in, zoom in some more!"

The staff gradually zoomed in on the frozen image as he requested.

"What's this"?

The old man with white hair also noticed something was wrong.

"Captain Tang, if I remember correctly, when we examined Li Bo's body, he didn't have any tattoos on his neck!"

Chen Cheng's words woke Tang Long up. He stared at the screen for a while and said, "It can't be a tattoo. Our bodyguards aren't allowed to have tattoos except for scars!"

Because the camera was too far away and it was nighttime, even with infrared light it wasn't as clear as during the day. All that could be seen was a dark shadow on one side of Li Bo's neck when magnified.

"Doesn't it look like a bat?"

Upon hearing Chen Cheng's words, everyone looked at it closely and it looked more and more like a bat.

"Okay, let's continue playing!"

The video continued playing, and when it reached the point where Li Bo was teetering on the edge, Chen Cheng called for a halt again!

Then he said, "Slow down the video by two bars!"

As the staff controlled the video, Chen Cheng stared intently at it, which was being played at several speeds in slow motion.

"stop"!

The scene freezes again, with Chen Cheng crossing his arms and touching his chin with one hand: "Did you see that dark figure?"

Even with their eyes practically glued to the screen, Bai Touweng and Tang Long couldn't see any dark shadows.

Chen Cheng picked up a pen from the table and used the pen tip to draw circles back and forth in a certain place.

"Ah! I see a dark shape, it looks like a person!"
