Chapter 58 - 80

Chapter 80 The Fierce Lü Xiachan

Since that's the case, let's climb to the top of the mountain and take a look. What if the real world outside the mountain is just beyond the great formation?

Having set his goal, Chen Cheng headed towards a high mountain to the north. He estimated the distance and thought he could reach the foot of the mountain in about an hour. However, after walking for a while, he realized something was wrong. He was clearly walking, and he was passing over the stones and small trees on the road, but the mountain was still as far away as when he first saw it. Moreover, using the lake as a reference point, it was as if he was standing still and had not actually moved forward.

So Chen Cheng turned and walked west, even jogging. The stones and flowers on the ground rushed past his feet, indicating that he was exercising normally. But when he turned his head and saw the lake, it was still about the same distance away from him, with no change.

Chen Cheng sighed. He was wandering around in a high-level ghost wall, unable to get out. He had been struggling for four or five hours and was exhausted. He sat down on the spot, crossed his legs, and began to meditate to recover his strength.

After an unknown amount of time, Chen Cheng opened his eyes and found that it was still daytime here, and the surrounding scenery had not changed. If Wen Miao could not break this great formation, would he be trapped inside for the rest of his life?

Standing up, Chen Cheng walked towards the lake, expecting it to be the same as before—so close yet forever out of reach. To his surprise, he found himself getting closer and closer to the lake. Had the formation changed again? To verify his idea, he hurriedly ran towards the earliest northern mountain. To his disappointment, he was still going in circles, because the lake, his reference point, hadn't moved at all despite his running. He tried walking towards the lake again and could clearly see that he was getting closer, until he reached the water's edge.

The lake is like a giant mirror, reflecting the sky and the surrounding mountains. The surface is as calm as silk, without a single ripple, as if time has stood still here! The lake water is very pure, like a deep blue gemstone. Although there is no sunlight, the lake surface still sparkles, shimmering with a light as bright as the sky.

Chen Cheng squatted down and put his hand into the water. The icy touch made him realize that it was real water, not an illusion. He then scooped it up and smelled it. It had a strange, indescribable smell.

"Master, be careful!"

While deep in thought, he suddenly heard Lü Xiachan's warning. He hurriedly stood up and took two steps back. Just where he had left, an indescribable monster leaped out of the water, its sharp claws slashing at the ground, instantly turning any stones it caught into dust.

Chen Cheng was startled and took several steps back. He took out his peach wood sword and a talisman, ready to make a move at any moment. At the same time, he carefully observed the monster. It was about the size of a grizzly bear, covered in long, dark brown fur. Its head resembled that of a crocodile, with a mouth full of fangs. Its thick hind legs allowed it to stand upright, its forelimbs were long and slender with sharp claws, and it had a very disproportionate little tail!

Having failed in its first attack, it shook off the water, stood up straight, and stared at Chen Cheng with a pair of dead fish eyes, exuding a strong aura of death and ghosts.

"This is not a born monster, but a ghost that has devoured many ghosts," Chen Cheng thought to Lü Xiachan.

"I don't know either, Master. If it's a ghost, I'll fight it!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a red shadow floated out from his jade pendant, and Lü Xiachan stood in front of Chen Cheng.

When the monster saw Lü Xiachan, a glint of light flashed in its dead fish eyes. This was a thousand-year-old vengeful ghost, much tastier than the guy in front of it, and also a great tonic!

The ghost let out a long howl and rushed towards Lü Xiachan, intending to tear her soul apart and devour it as before.

Since following Chen Cheng, Lü Xiachan's strength has been vastly different from before, and the ghostly aura around her has become increasingly dense, now emanating a chilling aura! It revealed a terrifying appearance, with flowing ghostly hair, and leaped into the air. With a sudden flick of its sharp ghostly fingernails, a jet-black aura shot out, heading straight towards the monster.

The monster was quite intelligent, seemingly sensing that this vengeful ghost was different from the ghosts it had encountered before. It reacted quickly, rolling away nimbly to avoid the ghostly attack. Immediately afterward, the monster opened its blood-red maw and spewed out a frost-white, chilling aura that surged towards Lü Xiachan like a raging torrent.

However, Lü Xiachan suddenly became elusive in mid-air, easily dodging the sharp chill. Then, she extended her sharp ghost claws and slashed at the monster with lightning speed. The ghost and the monster immediately engaged in close combat. Lü Xiachan's movements were light and elusive, and she would occasionally grab the monster with her ghost claws. Where she was grabbed, black smoke would emerge, like blood spurting out when a person is injured!

The monster was tall and strong, but it was completely helpless against Lü Xiachan's light and elusive ghostly figure. It could only grab at her haphazardly, its howls growing louder and louder!

Just as Lü Xiachan grabbed the monster's neck again, the monster could no longer withstand it and collapsed to its knees with a thud. Lü Xiachan's ghostly power surged, and she gathered her eerie ghostly energy into a ghostly claw to finish off the monster. Suddenly, a sharp shout came from mid-air: "Dare to hurt my pet? You're courting death!"

As soon as the sound came, a figure shot out a blast of cold air from mid-air, which was even more domineering and faster than the monster's breath!

"Golden Shield Tai Chi"!

Upon hearing the sound, Chen Cheng sensed something was wrong and quickly formed a protective seal to shield Lü Xiachan. If she were struck by this chilling energy, she would surely be annihilated!

The frost-white chill struck the suddenly appearing golden Tai Chi symbol, and was completely absorbed. No way! The Golden Shield Tai Chi was created by my master's master's master's master, that is, my master's great-grandfather. Its defensive power is invincible. How could a mere chill penetrate it!

Taking advantage of this time, Chen Cheng hurriedly summoned Lü Xiachan back into the jade pendant. It could help him and Zhang Qian defy fate. If it was gone, his future happy life would be over!

After the frost-white chill and the golden shield Tai Chi disappeared, a beautiful figure stood in front of the monster, gently patted its head, and the monster turned and jumped into the lake and disappeared.

"Who are you"?

Chen Cheng looked warily at the beautiful girl standing with her hands behind her back. The girl looked to be only sixteen or seventeen years old. Her skin was as white as snow, with bright, lively eyes, a high nose, and extremely glossy red lips. She was dressed in a white dress and looked just like a fairy from the mortal world!

"I also want to ask you who you are, why you were able to get in here, and why you hurt my pet?"

"Pets? You call that monster-like thing a pet? You're so ignorant!"

With a "whoosh," the girl in white appeared in front of Chen Cheng, knocking him away with a palm strike. Then she clapped her hands and said, "Not only it, but you and your little ghost girl will also be my pets. If you behave well, that's fine. But if you make me unhappy, then your nightmare will begin!"

The blow struck Chen Cheng as if he had been hit by a speeding car. Even though his body was incredibly tough, he couldn't withstand such an impact. He lay half-reclined on the ground, one hand supporting himself on the ground and the other hand covering the spot where he had been hit. Before he could even speak, he spat out a mouthful of blood.
