I am Dexter Morgan. Forensic expert by day, monster by night. And now… a friend?
Curious…
Such a simple word.
So human.
So foreign to me.
Larry discovered me. He saw behind the mask. The blood, the truth… everything. And he didn't run. He didn't scream. He didn't betray me. He stayed. And in that shared silence, something strange was born. Complicity? Loyalty? Friendship?
With Larry I don't have to pretend. No plastic smiles, no office chatter. He already knows my Dark Passenger, and still chose to walk by my side. Does that make him a friend… or just a better-paid accomplice?
When he moved to another city to join the FBI, I thought it was a closed chapter. But the strange thing is—I missed him. Yes, me. Dexter Morgan, the solitary predator. And here I am, following his trail like a faithful dog… or like a wolf hungry for the hunt.
A new killer is waiting in this city. Not a sloppy criminal or an amateur monster.
A true predator. One worthy of the table. Larry wants him for justice. I… for something more intimate. But we both want him. And that coincidence makes me feel something unusual. Almost… happiness.
Is this what it feels like to have a friend? To share a secret, a prey, an emotion? I don't know.
But for the first time, I am not alone in the hunt. And while my Dark Passenger howls with delight, I dare admit it: I'm anxious. Happy. Alive.
A killer in our sights. An accomplice turned friend. And me, savoring every second.
…
Dexter looked at the crowd of people at the airport exit. "Well, here I am."
"Are you lost?" A voice shouted from a distance. Dexter instinctively turned toward it and saw a familiar face.
"Got something to hide?"
"A tape."
Larry walked up to Dexter, greeted him, and took his suitcase to the car. "How was the trip over here?"
"Can't complain about flying first class. This is the first time I've traveled outside Miami in a long time. Everyone at the department hates you for inviting me before them."
"Not everyone does the sport we're about to do."
Dexter nodded and asked, "Who are we after?"
"A cannibal." Larry showed him everything he had gathered so far about the killer they were hunting.
As Dexter read through the information, he glanced at Larry and asked, "How do we start digging deeper?"
"With a lot of money and information."
…
People often make choices that change their lives. Larry had taken a path alongside someone he never imagined he'd call a friend.
"Next victim selected."
"How many has he killed?"
"Twenty people."
"The victims are waiting for justice."
"Send the sentence."
