Chapter 288 - Chapter 288: Shock and Awe Part 2

Shisui POV

Kaen's plan was smart, he was playing for time. He needed to survive long enough to acclimate to the frantic tempo of Noa's Stormdrive. He knew Noa surpassed him in raw power and speed, but he banked on the Sharingan's ability to decode the movement. If he could just last a few minutes, the blur would become a pattern he could predict, evade, or counter. Noa, however, was fully aware of that ticking clock. He knew that any hesitation would be his own undoing, so he abandoned all subtlety. He went aggressive from the start, forcing Kaen to burn through his defensive layers and reveal his hand early.

Kaen wanted to wait Noa out, but Noa chose to end the fight right then and there. He became the definition of overwhelming as he exploded forward, charging directly through the Earth Spike Forest. His speed was already monstrous, but he wasn't just moving. He was a living battering ram. The violent outer coat of chakra acted as a displacement shield, shattering the reinforced stone spikes on contact. Noa's lightning interfered with the very structure of Kaen's ninjutsu, pulverizing the stone into dust. He took some grazing damage from the flying shrapnel, but it was a negligible price to pay for such a terrifying display of force.

Kaen's eyes widened in disbelief as his hands blurred through seals. A giant fireball erupted, a roiling sun of orange heat that hissed with intensity, yet Noa did not swerve. He flickered straight through the heart of the flames. Kaen noticed instantly that Noa's chakra coat had dimmed, shrinking closer to his skin as it was consumed to neutralize the fire, and he tried to capitalize on the opening.

But the moment Noa burst through the fire like a demon, the earth beneath his feet gave way. Lightning flared under his soles, and the ground detonated in a violent shower of dirt and sparks. Kaen adjusted, using the data from their previous clashes to anticipate the trajectory. He tilted his head, feeling the heat of Noa's knuckles as the punch whistled past his ear by mere millimeters.

Kaen was already halfway through a counter-seal, but Noa's momentum didn't stop. He used the force of the missed punch to pivot his entire body, whipping a lightning-covered kick around in a vicious arc. Kaen's Sharingan saw it coming, but his body was too slow to fully clear the path. He threw up his already injured arms in a cross pattern in a desperate guard.

The collision was brutal. The kick hit with the weight of a boulder, and the sickening, dry crack of snapping bone echoed across the training field. Kaen's face contorted in a silent scream of agony as his guard buckled. His right hand was twisted at an unnatural, gut-wrenching angle. He was sent spiraling through the air, but Noa was already moving parallel to him, a predatory shadow closing in for the finish. In a final act of defiance, Kaen used his shaking left hand to whip a volley of kunai toward Noa's path. Noa didn't even flinch. As the steel entered his static field, micro-arcs of electricity lashed out, striking the sides of the kunai and knocking them off-course. They whistled harmlessly past his ribs as Noa continued his advance, his chakra coat now almost completely extinguished, his eyes locked onto his broken opponent.

Noa approached, his arm cocked back as he sent another powerful punch toward Kaen. Kaen immediately kicked it with all his might, yet he still lost the strength match and was sent flying. He twisted mid-air, which was awkward to do with his broken arm flailing around, before he landed on the ground heaving with pain, his face bloodied and broken.

I, Fugaku, and Itachi had the same idea at the same moment. Kaen is a ninjutsu user whose arm has been broken. Itachi was about to move in, however, his father held his arm in front of him and shook his head. Itachi exhaled and looked back at the fighting ground. Concern for a fellow Uchiha giving it his all was clear on his face.

Dust was slowly floating around Kaen's broken form, causing Noa to stop for a moment as he observed his opponent. Hesitation ran through his face, which caused Kaen to rage, insulted at the mere hint of it in Noa's expression. He was broken, but his eyes said otherwise. The light in them was burning brighter than ever. He was ignoring the pain because it was the only option he had if he wanted to stand tall. He was only focused on Noa.

They exchanged a look that said it all as Noa grinned. "Not happy that I am saying this, but you're the best." He lowered his body, lightning coiling around his legs violently. Kaen, on the other hand, did not respond. He raised his hand and, to our absolute shock, started to weave hand seals with only his left hand.

Itachi spoke next to me, his voice genuinely surprised. "What? One-handed seals?"

Fugaku nodded sagely. "That is when the Uchiha's true mettle shows. During moments like these. Good, this kid has the resolve and spirit of a true warrior."

Itachi nodded along with his father, and I, too, was caught off guard. I hadn't expected this level of grit from Kaen, but he keeps treating his limits like optional hurdles. While Noa was the spark that ignited this growth, the resolve and insight Kaen displayed in the face of defeat speaks volumes of his character. It's a glimpse of the warrior hidden deep inside him, of the true potential his future self could reach. It was getting clearer with every battle he fought with his life on the line.

Kaen finished his hand seal extremely fast and, as expected, he used the most famous chakra nature known to an Uchiha. Fire chakra, the first thing an Uchiha learns. A hot, searing fire erupted from his mouth, covering a huge area now that Noa's cloak was gone. Noa flickered out of the way moments before he was hit, forced to give distance as Kaen's flames started to concentrate. The sound grew more harrowing and the flame turned whiter as Kaen sent a powerful beam of fire toward where he predicted Noa would appear.

Using his eyes, the aim was perfect. However, the moment Noa appeared, he used one leg to push upwards, spinning mid-air above the beam before landing on all fours. He flickered a millisecond before the beam returned to cut him in half. Noa had underestimated Kaen, as he usually does with his opponents, but he miscalculated. Kaen was truly going all out.

Noa grunted and lunged toward Kaen, but Kaen reshaped his flames to act as a fire repellent. The wide-range heat forced Noa to weave to the side to evade the intense blast. He was pushed back once more, his eyes narrowing as Kaen pressed the advantage with a violent, sharpened focus. Noa continued to flicker through the openings, his movements a blur as he evaded the relentless fire ninjutsu.

Noa was not about to let the stalemate continue, and in a flash, his spear was summoned back into his palm. Kaen noticed the shift immediately as Noa hurled the weapon with lethal intent. It streaked across the field, carving a deep furrow into the earth and dismantling Kaen's focused fire beam on contact. However, the sheer intensity of the flames had slowed the spear's velocity just enough. Kaen spun in a fluid motion, casting a set of customized ninja wires that tangled around the flying shaft. He moved with practiced precision, anchoring the ends deep into the ground and letting go a split second before the current could reach him. The lightning emitting from the spear hissed as it was bled into the earth, and the specialized wire groaned in protest, straining to hold the weapon against the monstrous strength of Noa's throw.

Chakra ran through the wire, interfering with the spear's own seals, however the spear was actively destroying the wire. Its seals were much more resilient than a simple trick like this could hold for long. And so Kaen flickered toward Noa, whose face was shocked for a moment at how his most powerful weapon was neutralized, even for a few seconds. In a high-level fight like this, those seconds were an eternity.

Noa was slow to react to Kaen slashing at him with a kunai, but Stormdrive was something else. Noa focused chakra into his head to accelerate his thought process and overcharge his reflexes as he pulled a tanto from his storage seal, slashing back. Kaen flooded his kunai with chakra, indifferent to the strain on the blade, as Noa countered by surging lightning into his tanto. They met head-on without a shred of hesitation. The weapons clashed in a violent tug-of-war, but the electrified edge of the tanto began to carve through Kaen's steel.

At the last possible second, Kaen released the failing weapon. He used the momentum of Noa's own push to pivot, generating the space needed to whip a lethal kick toward Noa's head. Noa braced and caught the strike with his powerful forearms, instantly surging a jagged electrical shock back through Kaen's body. Kaen didn't even flinch, despite this happening every time their forms collided. The charge was beginning to accumulate, and he could feel his muscles starting to spasm, yet he refused to let them fail. He was operating on pure instinct now, his mind and body overriding the agony to focus entirely on his opponent.

Powerful hits were exchanged as more and more electricity surged into Kaen's body. Noa was burning through his chakra in abundance to maintain the assault, relying increasingly on his seemingly endless stamina and monstrous strength. Though he was drawing closer to empty reserves by the second, he maintained the upper hand without a single injury. In stark contrast, Kaen's condition was worsening with every heartbeat, however, he actually held more chakra than Noa at this moment. Despite that advantage, Noa didn't leave him a single chance to create distance, closing in with absolute intensity.

Kaen threw a powerful jab, but Noa twisted around it, closing the distance in an instant. Trapped in the tight space between them, Noa drove his elbow into Kaen's side. The impact was brutal at such close range, sending Kaen tumbling violently to the ground and likely shattering one or two of his already battered ribs. The strike surged even more electricity into Kaen's body, until visible arcs of lightning began seeping from his skin.

Kaen coughed violently, blood seeping from his mouth. He tried to stand, but his legs buckled under the electrical overload, sending him crumbling back to the dirt. He attempted to weave hand seals, yet his remaining arm was too battered to cooperate, the muscles twitching uncontrollably. Despite this total physical collapse, his gaze remained fixed on Noa, burning with a defiance that refused to break.

Noa looked down, deep respect etched into his features, before his hand seal ignited with an ominous light and summoned the heavy spear back into his palm. Reading the unwavering defiance in Kaen's gaze, Noa didn't say a word. He swung the shaft with precise force, striking the side of Kaen's head to knock him out instantly. He knew that if he didn't, Kaen would have kept fighting until his heart simply stopped.
