--- Chapter 443 ---

Slaughter God's body trembled. His eyes widened. His fist tightened. All in disbelief.

The Asura's Divine Sword in his hand cracked, turning into red particles while its giant manifestation in the sky split in half.

However, the divine sword didn't simply split in half. It severed from the world of existence, losing its connection to the Asura God in the Divine Realm.

Normally, that wouldn't be a problem because Asura God would definitely feel something was off about his divine sword, yes, even if it was merely a wisp of it.

Unfortunately, Slaughter God was acting on Asura God's secret order, and thus, the mighty Godking couldn't move a finger personally.

The divine sword copy itself is a reliance that Asura God bestowed upon the Slaughter God.

And now that one, absolute reliance, got broken by someone!

Suddenly, Slaughter God felt his heart tighten. The survival instinct deep in his soul screamed, telling him to get far away from this place as quickly as possible.

Because a monster had already set his gaze upon him.

"No, I need to live!" The Slaughter God made his decision.

"I need to live and tell Asura Godking about this matter-!"

BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Slaughter God didn't even bother to cancel his divine domain and let it be, as he soared to the sky. This rash movement caused a huge shockwave that shook the area.

Even then, it was too freaking late.

When the Slaughter God rose to the sky and wanted to open the space tunnel back to the Divine Realm, he discovered the surrounding space and time were shut down, no, overruled by someone.

Not only that, this blockade was specifically put in place for Slaughter God because it suppressed the very law he mastered, Slaughter Law, locking him out of heaven itself.

"How miserable, right?" A playful voice rang in Slaughter God's ears.

"Even if you're the high and mighty divine being, you can't return home after playing god in the mortal world."

"All that status only for you to be locked here with me."

"A mere mortal."

Slaughter God gazed at the starry sky with a dull expression. Countless thoughts flashed through his mind.

"I can't die here, I can't die..." He mumbled to himself.

"You can't kill me..."

"You cannot kill me!"

"You can't bear the consequence of killing a god!"

Beta couldn't help but laugh upon hearing this hilarious joke, "Hahaha, Consequence? You? Out of all people? Talking about Consequence?"

"Hey, have you ever thought about the consequences of messing with mortals?"

"Do you really think you can cause so much suffering without getting something back in return?"

"No, no, no, how could it be that easy?"

"You, my doomed friend, forgot that karma is a thing."

"And unfortunately for you, your karma is bad. Very bad."

In fact, Beta wasn't lying. Although he doesn't have much authority over the Douluo Plane, it still functions under the karmic system, even though it's flawed.

Why flawed? Because a certain 'Dragon God' and some other Godkings are meddling too much with it!

Even then, they didn't dare to touch such a karmic system directly.

Karma is a revengeful bitch.

Once karma marks you, you will get your pay due.

That's why Asura God didn't take over the Douluo Continent directly, and instead chose his chosen one, Tang San, to defeat the Son of Plane as a fake Son of Destiny.

Yet, this exact Karmic System is why Slaughter God got trapped here with Beta.

Slaughter God acts as an enforcer of justice, judging Ye Ziyun as an evil spirit beast, who wanted to overthrow the 'rules' placed by the Dragon God and others.

Yet, Slaughter God forgets one thing.

While the Douluo Plane's consciousness has yet to be born in this era, the plane itself has a fail-safe mechanism. It wasn't dumb.

Once the Douluo Plane detected something wrong, a virus in the system, it placed a lockdown on itself, preventing anyone from getting in and out until the virus was 'forcibly' purged.

At this very moment, the Slaughter God has become this very virus, and Beta was the anti-virus.

Now, you might wonder how Beta became the anti-virus?

The reason is simple.

Faith.

Hope.

When the yearnings of Glory City's survivors reached Beta, they indirectly chose him as their guardian, and the Douluo Plane recognized him as the most 'suitable' candidate to do the job.

"I won't die..." Slaughter God clenched his hand tight, grasping his divine greatsword once more. The crazed expression on his face flared with a crimson light.

"I don't die!"

"You can't kill me!"

"Because I will kill those mortals before you can even touch a single hair on my head!"

"Mortals should just die for my sake!"

After shouting those mad words, Slaughter God swung his greatsword at the Glory City, illuminating it with the light of murder.

Of course, there is no way Beta would allow that to happen.

"Dismantle."

Before the light could even reach the Glory City, a powerful gust of wind tore it into a million pieces.

"..." Slaughter God stared at this dumbly. He just watched Beta destroy his sword with a mere gesture of his hand.

'Am I really going to die?'

'The noble and divine being such as me?'

"Yes, you are," Beta suddenly said. "You are going to fall."

"There is no other path."

"That's the path you walked upon in the first place."

"When you walk the path of slaughter, you will become part of it sooner or later."

"There is no path of return; in other words, you were doomed from the very beginning."

"Doomed from the very beginning..." Slaughter God was stunned.

Then, he started laughing, more manically, more hopelessly. "What do you know about my path!"

"My path is the greatest!"

"My path is not something your mortal can talk about!"

"Even if you wanted to kill me, I wouldn't give such a luxury to end my life first!"

Slaughter God pierced his own chest as the divine core inside cracked and then was ready to burst.

"Foolish, little brat!"

"Let's go to hell together!"

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

A crimson pillar of light appeared in everyone's sight, devouring Slaughter God and Beta whole.

Weirdly enough, as the light vanished, everyone could see Beta standing in the sky unscathed.

Beta commented, "Hmm, exploding your own Divine Core as a suicide attack, huh? Not a bad idea."

"Honestly, it could have worked if I hadn't had my infinity on."

After Beta's Perfected World comes into existence, the difficulty of using his infinity is erased, allowing him to create a barrier once more.

"But..."

"Do you think I am blind?"

"Do you really think I would believe someone as arrogant and cowardly as you would do a suicide attack?"

"Slaughter God, I am not naive..."

As Beta completed those words, he clenched his right hand tight and then punched the air, causing an airquake.

Then, he dragged something, yanking it to his side. It was Slaughter God, or more precisely, his soul, who wanted to run away.

"No, no, no, please spare me!"

"I don't want to die!"

"Please, I can ask Asura God to allow you to become a god!"

"You will be blessed in the glory of godhood!"

Beta chuckled indifferently, "I don't need such a favor, especially not from that bastard Asura."

"Godhood? I can reach it myself."

"As for you, how could I let you die so easily?"

"You don't deserve that kind of mercy..."

"Hehe, I hope you like to be drunk for eternity." With that, Beta clenched his hand and threw Slaughter God's soul into the White Emperor's Gourd, where he would suffer endless tribulation of drunkenness.

Beta felt the hollowness in his reserve and looked around the Glory City, placing several barriers to keep the city safe while also sealing the rifts from the Small Demon Grotto Plane.

He let out a sigh, "That should do it."

"Man, this was too tiring..."

"I need to..."

"Rest-!"

Beta's eyes closed as he dove down from the sky, causing many people to panic. A white shadow caught him, and it was none other than the City Lord Ye Ziyun.

Ye Ziyun could feel the warmth from Beta's body, permeating her cold body and heart. Her body trembled slightly.

She looked down upon Beta's face, "Thank you..."

"Thank you for saving me..."

"Thank you for saving our city..."

"Thank you."

"For everything..."
