Chapter 529: The Hero Makes an Entrance

There was bonus entertainment too?

Steven had originally come here just to deal with a potential nuisance—something that might disrupt his fun later on. But before he'd even finished enjoying the show unfolding in front of him, another layer of "fun" had already presented itself.

Seriously—what was with this shady organization? Since when did they start dabbling in kidnapping a furry?

Popping another invisibility candy to extend the duration of his stealth, Steven narrowed his eyes and watched with great interest as the two Umbrella members continued arguing about that "college girl."

Could this guy actually be one of those legendary fur enthusiasts?

Squinting slightly, Steven studied the man who had spoken earlier. In this world, traits like animal ears or fur weren't exactly unusual. In fact, Steven had the impression that at least half the population here could qualify as "furry" by his own standards.

Kal'tsit had even explained that, due to differences in aesthetic preferences, the more "ancestral" someone appeared—the more animal traits they had—the more attractive they were considered.

That… was definitely outside Steven's realm of understanding.

And yet, what was happening right now seemed to prove that this kind of thing wasn't rare at all.

"Who wouldn't be tempted by such a pretty girl?" the man said smugly. "Shame she's got such a fierce personality. And for someone so small and slim, she's ridiculously hard to handle. If I hadn't used the abilities granted by the organization, I might not have been able to subdue her."

He showed no shame whatsoever—instead, he looked almost proud. His expression quickly turned lecherous, though it soon shifted into one of regret.

"Tch… what a waste. I was planning to keep her around for a few days—maybe even take her back to Columbia. But I guess I'll just have my fun and toss her aside."

"You're going to ruin yourself sooner or later with that attitude," said the apparent squad leader, frowning. Still, there was a hint of caution in his tone, as if he didn't dare push too far. "We're here on a mission. If you keep causing unnecessary trouble, I'll report this to the Boss."

"Relax," the man chuckled, completely unfazed. "I'm one of the organization's prized test subjects, you know. Someone as compatible with Originium as I am? There aren't many like me in Umbrella. The Boss wouldn't dare punish me."

"…Let's hope so," the leader replied coldly. "When we move to raid the LGD and capture that Sankta, you'd better not let this nonsense slow you down. If the Boss gets angry, even you won't be spared."

"Yeah, yeah, I got it. Talking to you is such a drag," the man waved dismissively as he stood up. "I'm gonna go check if my little wildcat has woken up."

With that, he left the meeting room, heading toward a dimly lit room in the corner with a faint, unsettling grin.

Steven glanced briefly at the rest of the Umbrella members, who were still busy planning their assault on the LGD.

Between gathering intel and enjoying the drama…

He chose the latter without hesitation.

Silently, he followed the lecherous man into the darkened room.

Through the faint sunlight filtering in from a window, Steven caught sight of her—

A girl, her hands and feet bound in chains.

Or rather… calling her a "girl" might not be entirely accurate.

Because no matter how you looked at it, she resembled a humanoid tiger.

Her figure was slender and youthful, full of vitality, but her body was covered in layered orange-and-black striped fur, giving her a distinctly wild aura.

Her face still retained delicate, almost cute human features—but overall, her appearance leaned heavily toward that of a feline predator.

A girl and a tiger.

Two elements that should have clashed instead blended together in a strangely harmonious way.

If Steven had to describe it, he could only say that she perfectly matched everything he imagined those "furry enthusiasts" would be into.

Just as he was deep in his own thought, the lecherous man who had just entered the room could no longer hold himself back and eagerly approached the bound girl.

"Stop pretending to be asleep, kitty. I know you're awake—waiting to throw a punch at me, right?" he sneered, stopping a few meters away. "Too bad those chains aren't going to let you do that."

As his words fell, the girl—who had appeared unconscious—slowly opened her eyes.

A pair of golden pupils locked onto him, burning with anger. Her previously relaxed body tensed instantly, coiling like a predator ready to pounce.

The thick chains binding her—each as wide as half a wrist—pulled taut with a sharp metallic strain, screeching under the pressure.

But in the end, she still couldn't break free.

"I know you're frustrated," the man continued, clearly enjoying the sight of her struggle. "But whose fault is that? You had your chance to kill me and didn't take it. That useless kindness of yours is what led you here."

"You shouldn't hate me… you should hate yourself."

The more he spoke, the wider his disgusting grin grew.

"I just love seeing self-righteous types like you—always jumping in to play the hero—fall flat on your face. It's honestly exhilarating."

His expression twisted with perverse delight as he continued to provoke her.

"There'll be someone who comes to save me," the girl replied, her voice surprisingly clear and youthful—almost delicate, like an ordinary girl's. "And someone like you… will get exactly what you deserve."

It was hard to believe that such a voice could come from someone with such a beast-like appearance.

Perhaps this was what people called gap moe.

But her words only earned a dismissive chuckle.

"Punishment? Please. In this world, only strength matters," he scoffed. "With power, who cares whether you're good or evil? People like me live just fine—better, even."

"Look at you. With your strength, you could've killed me before I even used my Arts. But no—you had to play the hero."

"And now? You're nothing more than my toy."

As he spoke, he lazily pointed a finger at her.

In the next instant, her body was lifted into the air, as if seized by invisible hands, completely at his mercy.

"Didn't you say someone would come save you?" he continued mockingly. "Aren't you supposed to be some kind of 'champion of justice' or whatever?"

"Why not try saving yourself?"

"If your precious hero doesn't show up soon…" he narrowed his eyes, a vile grin spreading across his face, "…I might just have to do something very unpleasant to you."

He was just about to savor the despair he expected to see on her face, when suddenly, a voice rang out from nowhere, cutting him off mid-sentence.

"Bleh, never thought I would see such work spoken in real life."

And just like that, the hero had arrived.
