Damon froze. For a split second, even the pain seemed to pause. "What…?" His breathing grew uneven as he stared at the chaos in front of him, his vision still flickering, but his mind had suddenly cleared just enough to grasp what had just happened.
Did he just absorb that attack? The attack that should have killed him fueled him instead?
The unexpected event created a spark of clarity in his mind. Damon clenched his teeth, holding onto that single thread of clarity with everything he had left.
"Of course…" he muttered, his voice trembling. His head was so muddled before that he did not think to try this but now he was ready.
His gaze dropped to his body, to the countless silver runes covering him from head to toe, each one sealing away a part of his existence, each one dragging him closer to death. They didn't look absolute anymore. They looked breakable!
Damon's lips slowly curled upward. "I can do this…"
"I can actually do this."
