Chapter 222 - Chapter 220: A Song That Breaks The Heart

"Go to sleep early. We'll set off for Inazuma tomorrow. When we get there, I'll give you your freedom. You can go wherever you want."

Though it was a floor mat, it wasn't much different from a bed. After all, they were in a military camp; how good could the conditions be? Having a clean blanket was already considered quite good.

Some people didn't even have blankets and could only sleep on the floor.

However, ever since the funds anonymously donated by Bai Luo arrived, this problem had been solved.

"Will you really let me go? I know quite a few of your secrets."

Sayu, wrapped up with only her head showing, looked at Bai Luo with suspicion.

She felt that he was just trying to trick her.

After all, it wasn't the first time he had done something like this.

Perhaps it would be just like before: he'd let her go, and then grab her by the nape of her neck of destiny and carry her back.

"What do you know?"

"..."

Being asked this by Bai Luo, Sayu herself became confused.

That's right, besides the fact that he's the Battousai, what else do I know? That the Fatui, Watatsumi Island, and the resistance have a close relationship? That doesn't seem to be a secret. My master knew that long ago, does she need me to tell her?

In the end, it seemed... she didn't know anything at all...

During her time with Bai Luo, she had basically been in a state of self-abandonment and giving up.

When Bai Luo was causing trouble, she was either sleeping or had been sent away by him.

Although she seemed to be very close to him, in reality, she knew very little, and had not been involved in any of the core secrets at all.

"I... I was careless..."

Slapping her own forehead, Sayu realized with horror that, while it seemed only her movements had been restricted, she had actually been played by Bai Luo all along. If he hadn't reminded her, she might not have realized it until she was standing in front of her master.

This man... is terrifying!

"If you want to know some important information, it's not like I can't tell you~"

Seeing this rare sight of the tanuki not dozing off, Bai Luo felt the urge to tease her.

"Oh? Let's hear it then."

"The problem is, after I tell you, I'll have no choice but to silence you. Are you sure you want to know?"

Bai Luo took out a dagger from somewhere. The sharp dagger easily plunged into the wooden floor up to its hilt, making the little tanuki break out in a cold sweat.

She cried out that she couldn't afford to provoke him.

"Never mind, never mind. Time for sleep, time for sleep."

Sayu decisively made a "stop" gesture, rolled over, and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket. Before long, snores could be heard.

Escape?

Give me a break. It's not like she hadn't tried.

This man had a twisted sense of humor. Every time she thought she could escape his clutches, he would descend from the sky and completely crush her hopes on the sandy beach.

"Little tanuki?"

"..."

"Do you want to hear a song?"

"A song?"

Hearing the word "song," Sayu couldn't help but turn her head and look at Bai Luo, who was lying on the floor mat.

This man could play a song? That's quite a surprise.

Noticing Sayu's gaze on him, Bai Luo's hand twitched, and the sharp dagger in his hand transformed into an erhu.

Seeing the erhu, he was reminded of the old man on the ship.

"A song that breaks the heart, the clear sound never ceasing, but the connoisseur is gone."

Holding the erhu, Bai Luo sighed lightly and actually used the skill with which he had once driven away his erhu master.

In the rainy night, the long and ancient sound did not travel too far. Instead, under the effect of the rain... it became faint and indistinct.

But it was precisely this faintness that made it seem even more eerie.

That night, many of the resistance soldiers had a nightmare.

In their dreams, they were running through a rainy mountain forest.

Behind them was a giant that was like a small mountain.

This giant was completely shrouded in black mist, its original appearance obscured, but the oppressive feeling it exuded was very real.

Its voice was hoarse and rough, sounding like many saws cutting wood at the same time, or like two wooden planks rubbing hard against each other.

It even created sparks.

No matter how they tried to escape, they could not escape the giant's voice.

It was not until the early hours of the morning that these soldiers, tormented by the nightmare, slowly fell into a deep sleep.

After the song ended, Bai Luo looked at the little tanuki on the bed, feeling that he hadn't had enough. He found that she had "fallen asleep" at some unknown point.

Well, asleep is asleep. The kid was even drooling.

But the drool was strange; it was foamy.

In other words, she was foaming at the mouth.

"Is there something wrong with the milk I got from the Hilichurls? But I personally saw them drink it before I scooped it out of the pot."

Putting away the erhu in his hand, Bai Luo walked over to the little tanuki, pulled up the small blanket to cover her, and then lay back down.

With a belly full of questions, he fell into a deep sleep, accompanied by the sound of raindrops hitting the roof tiles.

The next day, perhaps in a hurry to get to Inazuma City, Bai Luo woke up a little earlier than usual.

Normally, the people in the military camp should have been up earlier than him, but he found that everyone was still sound asleep.

Even Sayu on the bed was the same.

It was not until an hour later that the sounds of people getting up could be heard in the military camp.

But the soldiers didn't look very well; they seemed as if they had been tormented all night.

Gorou later investigated this matter, but after much investigation, he found no clues and ultimately blamed it all on the Tatarigami.

When Bai Luo left, he did not disturb anyone. The only one who came to see him off was Gorou.

It wasn't that Bai Luo didn't want to reveal his whereabouts; it was entirely Gorou's request that it be kept secret.

Because Bai Luo's trip to Inazuma City was also related to him.

"I'll be counting on you for this matter!"

Having his cross-dressing photo published in Yae Publishing House's "That's Life" magazine in Inazuma City was an extremely embarrassing thought.

But for the victory of the resistance, for the future of Watatsumi Island, Gorou felt that it was necessary for him to sacrifice something.

Besides, how could anyone connect this photo to him?

Even if it was embarrassing, it would be Miss Hina who was embarrassed. What did that have to do with him, Gorou?

"Don't worry, I guarantee I'll complete the mission!"

Carrying the still-unconscious Sayu in his hand, Bai Luo patted his chest with a thumping sound.

In a sense, he was just like that scummy fox, a gossiping bystander who loved to watch the drama unfold.

How could he not be enthusiastic about such an interesting matter?

After once again handing over the military pay he had accumulated during this period to Bai Luo, Gorou stood at the side gate of the military camp, watching the red figure walk further and further away in the rain, and looked forward to the future of the resistance and Watatsumi Island.

He just didn't know... that while he was diligently fighting the Shogunate army in the river and sacrificing himself...

His home base's "crystal" had already been stolen by the person he had just sent off...

And it was the kind where even the "fountain" had been messed with.

He was just short of messing with the "item shop merchant."

By the time he realized something was wrong, it was already too late.

Because at that time, he was already at a strange gathering called a "fan meeting," eating grilled Lavender Melons with a strange Oni youth.
