The Legends of Ren Zu, Chapter Four, Section 32, stated:
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence and Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance stood at the edge of the pit he had once dug for himself under the influence of Pride Gu.
"What do we do now?" he asked.
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence looked into the distance. "We must find Father… and the rest of our siblings."
Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance frowned. "But how sister? The world is vast, and we are small. They could be anywhere."
The two walked aimlessly for a time.
Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance glanced at the sky, then the land.
"If only we had the eyes of an eagle," he said, "we could scour the world. If only we had wings like birds, we could fly wherever we wished. If only our noses were as sharp as wolves, we could track them. If only our ears were like rabbits, we could hear them from afar…"
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence shook her head.
"In the end, we are only human. We possess none of these abilities. What use is it to dream of them?" she asked.
At that moment, Cognition Gu appeared to speak before them, hovering lightly in the air.
"Humans," it said gently, "you may lack the eyes of an eagle, the nose of a wolf, or the wings of a bird… but you possess the greatest tool of all! Cognition - the friend of all humans!"
The siblings looked at it with hope.
"Cognition Gu," Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence asked, "can you help us find our family?"
"I can guide you," Cognition Gu replied. "Travel upward, to Purple Heaven. There, you will find Transformation Gu."
"Transformation Gu?" Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance asked.
"With it," Cognition Gu continued, "you may take on other forms. You may gain the eagle's sight, the wolf's nose, the rabbit's ears and so on. With such abilities, your search will become possible."
Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance's eyes lit up. "Then let us go to Purple Heaven at once!"
But Cognition Gu's tone turned serious.
"Be warned, humans. The land of Transformation Gu is also the domain of the beastmen. Among them, strength rules over all. If you are careless… you may lose yourselves before you find what you seek."
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence nodded. "No matter the danger, we must go."
And so, the two humans turned their steps toward Purple Heaven.
The two of them did their best to avoid the hordes of the beastmen that roamed around, but eventually their luck ran out and they were quickly surrounded by a large group of beastmen.
"Hehehe... these humans look tasty!"
"Good! Good! Good! I haven't had a proper meal in such a long time!"
Both Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence and Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance were scared, but they still did not lose hope.
"Humans, keep your wits about you," Cognition Gu said. "The beastmen may be savages, but they also respect the rules and traditions of their tribes. The path ahead may be perilous, but there is yet a way forward so long as you have the courage to keep moving forward."
The beastmen that surrounded the two of them were a mix of hyenas, panthers, tigers, and leopards - all carnivores, mixed with human bodies. Their beady eyes glinted of a lust for flesh and their muscular bodies made those of the two humans seem insignificant in comparison. "Oh humans, you seem to wish to challenge us as per the traditions of our tribe. Know this! To us, strength remains supreme! You may challenge one of us to a contest of strength - and as a favor, we will let you choose the terms of the contest!"
"Oh, Cognition Gu," Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence pondered. "These beastmen all have the benefits of strong bodies and are eager to hunt. How can we beat them in a contest of strength?"
"Wait!" Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance said, eyes shining as he had a flash of inspiration. "I will take up this challenge!"
He took out a small piece of leather off of the ground and pointed to a nearby tree. "The strength of contest is this - one must be able to send this piece of leather over the treetop!"
The beastmen around him cackled and howled in laughter until one of them stepped forward. "Puny human! You truly think that you can defeat us in this kind of contest! Pah!"
The beastman stepped forward, part cheetah and grabbed the piece of leather before tossing it upward. "Gah!"
No matter how many times it tried, it was unable to get the piece of leather past the treetop. The piece of leather was far too dainty, too light - and kept being blown away by the wind. The beastman began gnashing his teeth. "Human - this challenge is impossible! I cannot do so, but if you cannot do it either, than we will simply eat the two of you!"
"My turn then," Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance said. He reached over, found a rock, and tied it to the piece of leather, easily throwing it above the treeline.
"Well done, human!" Cognition Gu cheered.
The beastmen gnashed their teeth in frustration, but Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance had won, and they could do nothing but all the two humans to pass.
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence and Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance continued to move forward.
But they were once again apprehended by a group of beastmen.
"Praise and glory," Blazing Lightning said softly.
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence walked beside him as they entered deeper into Purple Heaven.
They did not go far before another group of beastmen blocked their path.
These were creatures with the bodies of men but the features of grazing beasts - striped like zebras, muscled like horses, some even bearing the thick horns of rhinoceros.
"Humans," one of them snorted, stamping its hoof, "you dare trespass into our territory? You are courting death!"
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence stepped forward calmly. "Beastmen, those who came before you were all carnivores and ate meat. But you all are herbivores," she said. "You do not eat flesh. We offer you no benefit in attacking us. Why must you kill us? Please be reasonable and let us through."
The beastman's eyes hardened. "No reason is needed. Any who enter our territory must die!"
Cognition Gu appeared, hovering between them.
"Humans," it said gently, "on the path of life, you will meet many like this. Even without reason, they will hate you. Even without benefit, they will harm you. Just because you haven't done them wrong, doesn't mean that they will not wish wrong upon you! Furthermore, you, Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence, are the product of the refinement of Wealth Gu. Wheresoever you go, there will be those who covet you!"
Blazing Glory Lightning Brilliance's gaze sharpened. "Then we can only defeat them at their own game." He stepped forward. "We issue a challenge."
The beastmen burst into laughter.
"A challenge? Good. We are the fastest of all beastmen. If you wish to compete, it will be a contest of speed!"
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence fell silent for a moment as she considered the challenge. Then she nodded. "Very well. The rules are simple - whoever completes three laps around the world first wins."
The beastmen agreed immediately. One of them dashed forward, its hooves striking like thunder as it raced across Purple Heaven, descending toward the land below.
Myriad Gold Wondrous Essence did not move. The other beastmen watched her, but she didn't so much as take a step despite the other beastman making good time.
"Has this human gone insane?"
"Why isn't she moving?"
"Has she already given up?"
"Heh - if that is the case, she should just jump atop our lances already and save us the trouble of waiting!"
