It was the endless mist that greeted them as they stepped into the vast forest. The Red Canopy Zone. The place where the lab—Matthew's heart—was. The place where Elio's little kitten was held captive. The final battlefield.
The sun hung high in the sky, casting its bright light over the world, but the forest remained untouched by it. A vast ocean of enormous trees stretched endlessly across the forest, their dark crowns rising through layers of silver mist towering over them like a living thing.
Sunlight tried to invade the forest, yet the fog swallowed it whole from above, not allowing even a tiny ray to sip through it. The outside world shone brightly, but inside the forest, beneath the canopy, the world remained stuck in a never-ending twilight.
