Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The moon hung high, its silver glow cutting through the dense forest canopy. A cool breeze carried the scent of damp earth and pine, rustling the leaves in a rhythmic whisper. The lost heir moved carefully through the underbrush, their heart pounding with a mixture of curiosity and unease.

Somewhere up ahead, beyond the tangled maze of trees, an ancient shrine lay in ruins—a place spoken of only in hushed voices. Tonight, they were finally going to see it for themselves.

As they stepped into the clearing, the shrine loomed before them. Crumbling stone pillars stood tall despite the weight of time, their surfaces etched with faded symbols. The air was thick with something unexplainable, something that made their skin tingle.

And then… movement.

A lone figure stood at the heart of the ruins, cloaked in a dark robe. A golden lantern flickered in their grasp, its soft glow casting shifting shadows.

"You came," the figure said, their voice calm yet firm.

The lost heir didn't move. "Who are you?"

The stranger lifted their hood, revealing sharp eyes that gleamed even in the dim light. There was something unsettling about their gaze—something knowing.

"A guide," they said simply. "One who has waited for you."

The heir stiffened. "Waited for me?"

The guide reached into their robe and pulled out a scroll, sealed with a crest depicting a dragon in flight. "Because the prophecy speaks of your return. The lost heir, hidden away, destined to reclaim the throne."

A heavy silence followed.

The heir had heard whispers about their past, stories that never quite made sense. But now, staring at that ancient seal, a strange warmth stirred inside them—an unshakable feeling that this was more than just a story.

"The kingdom is in ruin," the guide continued. "A rebellion brews, but without you, they have no true leader. You are the key."

Their mind raced. A throne? A rebellion? They barely knew who they really were, let alone how to lead a war.

And yet… something inside them pulled toward this truth.

"What must I do?" they asked, voice steadier than they expected.

The guide's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Follow me."

The heir took a deep breath, stepping forward just as the wind stirred again, rustling the leaves with an eerie whisper. But as they moved deeper into the ruins, they failed to notice the shadow lurking just beyond the treeline.

Watching. Waiting.

The prince had found them.
