Two days passed.
Noah kept his head down. Went to class. Ate lunch alone. Watched.
The tomb arc was moving exactly like he remembered. He could feel it in the air — the tension building under the surface of Mystic Falls like something about to crack.
Jeremy and Anna were getting closer. He'd seen them together twice now near the school library. Anna playing it perfectly — warm, curious, just vulnerable enough to be convincing.
*She's good,* Noah thought. *Really good.*
He almost felt bad for Jeremy.
Almost.
___
Thursday morning. History class.
Noah was copying notes when he felt it — a shift in the room. He looked up.
Elena was distracted. Her pen had stopped moving and she was staring at nothing, that familiar weight sitting behind her eyes. Something had happened.
*The journal,* Noah realized. *She's starting to piece things together.*
He looked back at his paper.
*Ding!*

After class he pulled up his full interface for the first time in two days.

He studied it for a moment.
*SP: 400.* Still not enough for Human Disguise. He needed to fix that soon.
"Freya," he said quietly. "Fastest way to get to 1,500 SP?"
"Complete the Watcher quest. The reward alone gets you most of the way there."
"And the rest?"
"Stay alive. The system generates passive SP the longer you operate in a high-threat environment."
Noah closed the interface. *High-threat environment.* That was one way to describe Mystic Falls.
___
Friday night.
Noah was walking back from the convenience store — cheap food, no questions asked — when he heard it.
Voices. Low and urgent. Coming from the alley beside the old pharmacy.
He slowed without stopping. Let his enhanced hearing do the work.
"...the journal has to be in the Gilbert house. If Elena finds it first—"
"She won't. Ben is handling it."
Anna's voice. And another — older, female. Unfamiliar.
Noah kept walking. Didn't turn his head.
*That was Pearl,* he realized. *She's already out.*
He stopped at the corner, back against the wall, processing.
Pearl was out of the tomb. That was earlier than he remembered — or maybe he'd just forgotten the exact timing. Either way it changed things. Pearl being free meant the timeline was accelerating.
*Ding!*
**QUEST PROGRESS: Watcher — Stage 1**
**Interactions logged: 3/5**
"You're not going to do anything?" Freya asked.
*Not yet.*
"Pearl is dangerous, Noah."
*I know exactly how dangerous she is.* He pushed off the wall and kept walking. *But right now she's not my problem.*
"And when she becomes your problem?"
Noah unwrapped a granola bar and took a bite. "Then I'll deal with her."
Freya went quiet.
___
Saturday morning.
Noah was in the motel room, running through combat drills in the small space, when the knock came.
Three sharp raps. Deliberate.
He stilled. Nobody knew where he was staying. Nobody except—
He opened the door.
Anna stood in the daylight, her expression unreadable. She was holding something — a folded piece of paper.
"I need to talk to you," she said.
Noah stepped aside. She walked in, eyes scanning the room quickly out of habit, then turned to face him.
"You said you knew what was coming," she said. "The journal. The grimoire. All of it."
"I did."
"Then you know it went wrong." She held out the paper. "Ben got sloppy. The Salvatores are already suspicious. And my mother—" she stopped. Steadied herself. "My mother is out but she's exposed. If Damon finds her before we secure the grimoire—"
"He'll kill her," Noah finished.
Anna's jaw tightened. "Can you help or not?"
Noah looked at the paper in her hand but didn't take it yet.
He already knew how this played out in the show. Pearl survived — for a while. But the road between here and there was messy. And getting involved meant stepping off the sidelines.
*The Watcher quest,* he thought. *No direct interference.*
But then again — he'd already warned Anna once. The quest hadn't penalized him for that.
*Maybe the system draws the line at changing major events. Not small ones.*
He took the paper.
"Tell me what you need," he said.
Anna exhaled — just barely — and sat down.
*Ding!*
**QUEST PROGRESS: Watcher — Stage 1**
**Interactions logged: 4/5**
Noah glanced at the notification and almost laughed.
*Even this counts.*
