Chapter 469 - Chapter 469: Complete Domination

The reason Silas chose Solar Beam instead of the faster Zap Cannon was because his opponent had both Swampert and Rhyperior.

Even if Rhyperior was the one attacking, Swampert could immediately take over as the team's defensive wall.

At the same time, the Grass-type Solar Beam was devastatingly effective against both Pokémon.

There was no way the opponent would let a Swampert with a quadruple weakness to Grass step forward to defend. Even with its impressive durability, one hit would leave it nearly unable to continue fighting.

Of course, Solar Beam had an obvious drawback.

Although Hyper Beam already required one of the longest charging times among Pokémon moves, Solar Beam generally took even longer to prepare.

On the other hand, Hyper Beam's lengthy recharge period after firing was just as significant a weakness.

While the heavy attacks were charging, the rest of the Pokémon on both sides didn't remain idle.

The aerial battle between Pidgeot, Togekiss, Staraptor, and Crobat was one thing.

On Aoki Chishiro's side, Arbok and Muk had already begun taking control of the battlefield.

A thick cloud of dark purple poisonous gas slowly spread outward.

"Blaziken, Fire Spin!

Ampharos, Magnetic Flux!"

Naturally, Silas wasn't about to let his opponent have free rein.

Even he wouldn't dare claim he could shrug off the combined poison of Arbok and Muk.

Under wild battle rules, even if the poison didn't kill him, the lingering effects wouldn't disappear immediately.

That wasn't an experience Silas had any interest in testing.

Scarlet flames intertwined with golden electricity, forming a thick wall of energy.

The poisonous gas instantly turned into harmless smoke upon touching the flames.

Moments later, the surging electrical currents scattered the smoke completely.

"Go find it."

Silas quietly instructed Blaziken beside him.

Blue light flickered within Blaziken's eyes as it gave a slight nod.

With one powerful push, it vanished into the maze of rock formations like a phantom.

Among all the Pokémon on the battlefield.

At some point, Aoki Chishiro's Swampert had quietly disappeared from sight.

Despite its incredible strength, Swampert was also an excellent ambush specialist.

Its body structure allowed it to accurately sense both enemy positions and the surrounding terrain.

That made it exceptionally good at sneaking up on unsuspecting opponents.

Unfortunately for it, its opponent this time was Blaziken.

The power of Aura wasn't something that mere physical senses could rival.

To Blaziken's Aura perception, the sneaking Swampert shone as brightly as a beacon in the darkness.

The aura of a Pesudo Elite-level Pokémon was impossible to miss.

Although Swampert resisted Fire-type attacks, and although both it and Blaziken were starter Pokémon of similar potential.

That only applied when they were at the same level.

A Elite-level Blaziken against a Pesudo Elite-level Swampert, especially one that had mastered Aura, wouldn't just win.

It would utterly overwhelm its opponent.

A dark violet beam suddenly erupted.

Opening its massive jaws, Rhyperior unleashed the tremendous power of Hyper Beam.

At nearly the same instant, Serperior opened its mouth and fired a dazzling emerald Solar Beam.

It was still afternoon, with the sun blazing overhead.

Although the surrounding cliffs blocked part of the sunlight, Serperior gathered solar energy with remarkable ease.

It didn't even require Gigalith's cover. Its Solar Beam collided head-on with Hyper Beam.

The two ultimate attacks locked together in a fierce stalemate.

Judging purely by base power, Solar Beam was slightly weaker than Hyper Beam.

However, type advantage more than made up for the difference.

A Grass-type Serperior using a Grass-type Solar Beam naturally produced greater power than a Ground/Rock-type Rhyperior using the Normal-type Hyper Beam.

Not to mention that Silas' Serperior had clearly been trained even better than his opponent's Rhyperior.

"What a pain..."

Aoki Chishiro sighed inwardly.

His gaze then hardened.

"Muk, use Screech to interrupt them!

Arbok, Leer!"

If the attacks couldn't overpower each other, then he would simply interrupt the opponent's move altogether.

It was a solid plan.

Unfortunately, he'd forgotten one important detail.

Silas had issued commands to two Pokémon.

Before Muk and Arbok could execute their moves, another emerald beam tore through the battlefield.

It was Gigalith.

Having only devoted part of its attention to maintaining Gravity, it was now supporting Serperior with its own Solar Beam.

Thanks to its ability to gather solar energy naturally, Gigalith had finished charging much earlier than the others.

Instead of firing immediately, however, it had briefly assisted Pidgeot and Togekiss in the skies.

Only when Serperior became locked in a beam struggle with Rhyperior did it unleash its full power.

The extended charging time made Gigalith's Solar Beam even stronger than usual.

Barely half a second later, Rhyperior's Hyper Beam was completely overwhelmed by the merged Solar Beam.

"ROOOAR!"

The brilliant green beam slammed into Rhyperior, forcing it to cry out in agony.

Thankfully, Hyper Beam had already canceled out much of the incoming damage.

Otherwise, with its quadruple weakness to Grass, even one Solar Beam would've been devastating, let alone two.

Its body covered in burns, Rhyperior struggled just to remain standing.

Only then did Aoki Chishiro realize that sending Swampert around to ambush Silas had been a terrible decision.

"If this had been an unexpected wild battle, your strategy would've been the right one."

Silas shrugged behind the massive stone pillar.

"But we both came prepared."

In truth, he had an even simpler way to win.

The moment the battle area began, he could have rushed straight at his opponent before any Poké Balls were released, physically preventing him from sending out his Pokémon.

But that would've been far too boring.

He much preferred winning through a proper battle.

After all there was never any chance he would lose.

"Thunder."

No sooner had the clash of the three devastating attacks ended than Silas issued another command.

Dense Electric-type energy gathered high above the battlefield.

"Arbok, use a wide-area Haze!

Muk, use Minimize!"

Aoki Chishiro reacted immediately.

This wasn't for defense, it was for offense.

His Rhyperior possessed the Lightning Rod Ability.

Any Electric-type attack would be drawn into Rhyperior instead, while also boosting its Special Attack.

That meant the nearby Arbok and Muk had nothing to fear from Thunder.

However, things didn't unfold as he'd expected.

Ampharos wasn't targeting the three Pokémon on the ground at all.

Its true targets were Crobat and Staraptor in the sky.

Golden bolts of lightning streaked across the heavens.

True enough, part of the electricity was drawn toward Rhyperior by Lightning Rod, striking its body harmlessly.

But the vast majority remained under Ampharos' control and surged toward the aerial battle.

It couldn't be helped.

Under the deliberate guidance of Togekiss and Pidgeot, the flying Pokémon had already carried the battle far away from the main battlefield.

At such a distance, Lightning Rod's pull became extremely limited.

The four aerial combatants instantly separated.

Electricity didn't know friend from foe.

Ampharos could only guide the bolts enough to avoid hitting Pidgeot and Togekiss as much as possible, but complete avoidance was impossible.

Still, with the element of surprise, Staraptor and Crobat reacted far too slowly.

Before they had flown even several dozen feet away, the overwhelming electrical energy invaded their bodies.

Both Flying-type Pokémon cried out in pain.

"Air Slash."

Silas calmly issued another command.

Pidgeot and Togekiss wheeled around in perfect synchronization.

Their wings shone with brilliant white light.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Countless Air Slash blades filled the sky, raining down on the two Pokémon still crackling with yellow electricity.

Aoki Chishiro knew his two Flying-type Pokémon were almost certainly in trouble.

"This doesn't feel like the command ability of someone who's only been a Trainer for a year or two."

Sweat trickled down his forehead.

He had always known Silas was extraordinarily talented, and he knew the boss behind his organization valued Silas highly, he had sent people to recruit him more than once.

But he had never imagined being completely suppressed in a wilderness battle.

It wasn't just the overwhelming strength of Silas's Pokémon. As a Trainer, Silas's reactions and tactical decisions were also on an entirely different level.

Looking at the opposing formation, Aoki couldn't help but sigh.

Gigalith stood at the front, Serperior controlled the center, and Ampharos anchored the rear.

The combination of Gravity, Grassy Terrain, and Ampharos's magnetic field manipulation had turned the entire battlefield into Silas's home turf.

If Rhyperior hadn't been hit by two consecutive Solar Beams at the start of the battle, it might have been able to pin Gigalith down and create an opening for Arbok and Muk to get in close.

But now watching Arbok chip its fangs trying to bite Gigalith, while Muk desperately clung to the massive Rock-type, leaving behind trails of highly toxic sludge, Aoki couldn't imagine any way to break through the giant's defense.

Once again, he regretted sending Swampert away on its flanking mission.

With Grassy Terrain constantly restoring Gigalith's stamina, the attacks from Arbok and Muk weren't completely ineffective, but they simply weren't doing enough.

Poison-types had never been known for explosive offensive power, and Serperior completely suppressed them.

Only a powerhouse like Swampert had enough raw strength to smash through Gigalith's defensive line head-on.

Speed alone wasn't enough, and Muk after using Minimize was the perfect example.

Originally, it had planned to slip around Gigalith with its shrunken body, but the Gravity field rendered that strategy completely useless.

Minimize wasn't all advantages.

With its body reduced in size, Muk couldn't generate enough force to escape Gigalith's immense gravitational pull and was pinned firmly in place.

"Rhyperior, Horn Drill!"

Rhyperior finally recovered from the recoil of Hyper Beam and charged back into the fight against Gigalith.

Unfortunately, after expending so much stamina, it could no longer pose much of a threat.

Time after time, its attacks were effortlessly blocked.

"Chirp~"

Without waiting for an order from Silas, Serperior seized an opening and unleashed Grass Knot.

In the chaos of battle, Rhyperior failed to notice the green vines spreading across the ground.

Mistaking them for an opening in Gigalith's defense, it continued charging forward.

The next instant, it pitched headfirst into the ground.

It remained motionless.

Rhyperior had lost the ability to battle.

The tide of battle shifted in an instant.

At nearly the same moment, Ampharos fired a Thunderbolt, briefly forcing Muk and Arbok backward.

Gigalith quietly stamped both of its hind legs against the earth.

The two unsuspecting Poison-types immediately found themselves sinking into swirling sand.

The Ground-type move Sand Tomb.

It was particularly troublesome for Poison-types.

Arbok managed to wrap its tail around a nearby stone pillar and pull itself to safety.

Muk, however, wasn't nearly as fortunate.

Its muddy body gave it no way to escape Sand Tomb, and if this continued, parts of its body might literally be torn apart.

"Gigalith, Earthquake."

Silas finally spoke again after a long silence.

Gigalith slammed all four of its limbs into the ground in succession.

The violent tremors shattered the surrounding rocks and stone pillars.

Crack after crack split across the earth.

Dust engulfed the battlefield.

When the dust finally settled, both Arbok and Muk had already fainted.

In less than half a minute, Aoki Chishiro had lost three Pokémon.

"Stay calm i still have Swampert."

He desperately tried to reassure himself.

The next moment.

Blaziken emerged from behind a rock formation, dragging an enormous body that looked like a corpse.

The lean Blaziken carried the heavily muscular Swampert with a single claw, creating an incredible visual contrast.

Swampert's body was covered in severe burn marks.

Blaziken casually tossed it aside.

"Not bad," it thought.

"Pretty tough, actually."

Swampert had endured one Aura Sphere, followed by two Swords Dance-boosted Blaze Kicks, before finally going down.

Though, from start to finish, the entire fight had lasted less than a minute.

"It's okay surely I can at least take down one of his Pokémon..."

Aoki still clung to that last sliver of hope.

Pidgeot swept both Staraptor and Crobat away with a single powerful wing strike.

Having fully gotten into the fight, it didn't even give Togekiss a chance to interfere.

Togekiss could only contribute by using Air Slash to repeatedly make the opposing Pokémon flinch.

Crimson flames engulfed Pidgeot's body.

It charged once more with the anti-Pokémon technique, Flare Blitz.

A streak of fire flashed across the sky.

Staraptor and Crobat tried to stop Pidgeot with Wing Attack, but their resistance proved completely futile.

Both Pokémon crashed helplessly to the ground.

"Sorry about that."

Stepping out from behind the stone pillar, Silas flashed Aoki Chishiro a grin.

"It was a good battle."

Without realizing it, his strength had already surpassed not only Trainers his own age, but most Trainers as a whole.

Someone with Aoki's strength would have had every chance of winning a regional tournament championship.

Yet against Silas hadn't seen even the slightest possibility of victory.
