Chapter 2 - The Pact

After a long struggle, Gin made his decision—one that no one had ever dared before.

He would form a contract with a Mutant Beast.

No records existed of such a pact. No one knew what would happen—whether it would grant him power or lead to his death. But there was no time for hesitation.

The Azure Dragon lay before him, its once-majestic form now battered and broken, struggling to breathe. Its deep, rumbling voice cut through the silence of the dark forest.

"Hhh!… Hhh!… Normally, a contract requires a third party to be on standby in case something goes wrong," the dragon panted, its glowing eyes dimming. "But there's no one here… We'll have to proceed without them."

A majestic red circle appeared beneath their feet, covering both Gin and the fallen dragon.

The radius of the circle depended on the risk of the contract—the bigger the circle, the higher the risk.

"Tsk! But I don't have any choice left. This may be my last chance to ever become a strong warrior. Backing out is not an option." His mind was made up.

"Now we start the contract," the dragon asked. "Do you want to form a contract with a Mutant, even after knowing the risks involved?"

"Yes," Gin replied. "I will form a contract with the Mutant Azure Dragon."

As the words left his mouth, something struck him in an instant, sending him crashing over the cliff like a bowling ball.

"You little shit!" a hunter yelled, biting his lips hard enough to draw blood. "Trying to ruin our catch?!"

Gin was now hanging on for dear life, gripping a branch like a drowning ant clinging to a stick. He showed no signs of movement—the blow was so devastating that blood started flowing freely from his wounds.

His vision blurred.

But the gods had another plan for him.

The dragon's blood, carrying a scale from its body, streamed down and landed on Gin resulting in the completion of the ritual.

The sudden surge of power driving him crazy, lifting him into the air as he absorbed every bit of the Azure Dragon's essence. The hunters were frozen—shocked, yet furious. Their dream of selling the dragon's core had been completely ruined.

"YOU DUMB FUCCCK!!!"

One hunter grabbed Gin by the neck, ready to crush it at any moment.

A sudden slash of wind came from behind, severing the hunter's head and body in a single clean cut.

A dreadful aura filled the air.

Witnessing a Level 30 hunter die in one strike, a chill ran down the others' spines. Their bodies were drenched in cold sweat, their instincts screaming at them to run—but they couldn't move.

"Gin… Gin… use this last chance to your advantage and run with every single bit of power left."

A familiar voice echoed in his mind. It wasn't coming from outside.

He could feel it.

It was the Azure Dragon—now living inside him.

Gin tried to check his power level.

"WTF… Level 3?! After all that bullshit, I thought I'd at least level up more than this!"

"I don't have any moves yet… but at least I can use this power a bit."

Focusing, he tried to exert the energy surging within him. In an instant, his body became engulfed in crackling red lightning, his speed increasing several times over.

Then—he felt it.

A strong green aura pulsed from the other side of the jungle.

His feet, drenched in lightning, carried him forward. Instinctively, he knew who it belonged to.

"I've waited for this moment my whole life… the moment I'd finally be able to use power like the others. I was mocked… but now, it's different. I'll show them what I can really do."

The endless jungle finally came to an end.

"Now I know where I have to go."

For the first time, Gin had the confidence he needed to face this ruthless world.

But then—

"Hah!… Hahh!… What's this pain all about?"

His entire body screamed in pain. The power was his, but the damage on both of them was far too severe.

His vision blurred. His legs gave out.

With no other choice, he crashed into the only place he could call his home.

"I… can barely… even move…"

Gin's mother, Mrs. Sume Arashi, was a young beauty with black hair that looked as if it had been woven from silk. Her emerald-green eyes were like an endless forest, deep and full of mystery. Her unparalleled beauty, combined with her unmatched healing abilities, could give even high-ranking warriors a run for their money. She was not someone to be underestimated.

She rushed to Gin's side, her hands glowing with a soft green light as she began to heal his wounds. But as she placed her palm over his chest, she froze—her eyes widening in shock.

A contract with a Mutant Beast.

His siblings, however, were relieved to see him safe and sound. Their worry quickly turned to excitement as they marveled at Gin's newfound power.

Gin lived with his mother, his twin brother, Kame Arashi, and his adorable little sister, Kanao Arashi.

Kame is a once-in-a-generation genius. At only Level 20, he was already on the verge of breaking through. His talent far surpassed that of normal warriors, making him one of the most promising young fighters in the region.

Yet, despite the warmth of home, the dreadful aura in the forest still lingered.

Gin's voice barely came out.

"It was that… mysterious man… He killed all those hunters."

Mrs. Arashi's expression darkened.

"Kame, Gin—you both have contracts now," she said, her voice laced with tension. "You need to head to the training facilities. We can't stay here anymore. Now that people know Gin has a contract with a Mutant, many will come after him."

She turned to Gin, her gaze serious.

"Listen carefully—no matter what happens, never let anyone find out what truly happened today."

She took a deep breath before continuing.

"I have a friend in the next town. You should study under him. He's quite picky, but don't worry—I'll make sure he takes you in."

Just then, a chilling voice echoed through the night.

"Ahaha… a contract with a Mutant? What an interesting fellow."

The mysterious man stood in the shadows, an evil grin spreading across his face.
