Thick, pitch-black pipes stretched deep into the unknown.
Harry cast several protective spells on himself—spherical shields enveloping his body—before leaping in.
The sensation was like plunging down a long, dark, sticky, endless slide. He could see many side tunnels branching off in all directions, but none as wide as this one.
The pipe twisted and turned, winding sharply downward at a steep incline.
Judging by the speed and duration of his descent, Harry estimated that he had gone hundreds of meters below the school grounds.
Eventually, the pipe leveled off, providing some buffering.
Otherwise, the chosen Heir of Slytherin might've ended up dead from the fall.
Harry stepped out of the pipe and stood on damp ground.
In front of him lay a dark stone passageway, tall enough for a person to stand in without hitting their head.
"Lumos Maxima."
A powerful light burst from his wand, illuminating the surroundings.
Harry moved forward through the corridor.
It was so silent that only the sound of his breathing and footsteps could be heard.
Occasionally, a crunch echoed beneath his feet—rat bones.
The floor was littered with the remains of small animals.
Eventually, Harry saw the coiled outline of a giant creature lying motionless further down the tunnel.
But he wasn't frightened—he felt only stillness. It was a corpse.
The light from his wand grew brighter, casting a glow over the silhouette—an enormous snakeskin, glistening green and vibrant. It was clearly the shed skin of a terrifying python, coiled and hollow, lying across the passage.
The skin was at least twenty meters long.
([Note: In the original Rowling novel, it's 20 feet, about 6 meters. This version adjusts it to match the scale.])
Harry continued forward, following the winding tunnel until he turned one last corner and reached the end.
A circular metal door blocked his path, with two intertwined serpents embossed on it. Their eyes were set with large, glittering emeralds, looking almost alive.
"Open sesame," Harry hissed in Parseltongue.
The emerald eyes of the snakes glowed, the serpents separated, and the door split open, sliding aside slowly.
Harry stepped through.
This was the Chamber of Secrets!
A vast, high-ceilinged room, stretching dozens of meters in height. Though there were no torches, it was dimly lit—the walls embedded with glowing minerals, just enough to see the basic layout.
The room was symmetrical, with the entrance in the center of the wide wall.
Rows of thick, towering stone pillars lined the space, supporting the lofty ceiling.
Each column was carved with coiling serpents. All of them seemed to stare directly at Harry.
But none of that was the focus.
Anyone's eyes would be immediately drawn to the massive statue directly opposite the entrance.
It stood at the end of the row of pillars, pressed against the wall, as tall as the room itself.
It was a statue of a man: an ancient, wrinkled face, with a sparse, long beard trailing all the way down to the hem of his stone-carved wizard robes. His enormous feet stood firmly on the smooth stone floor.
This was Salazar Slytherin, one of Hogwarts' four founders.
Harry walked step by step toward the statue.
He looked up. He knew the basilisk was here.
He had to kill it.
Originally, this hadn't been part of the plan. Killing the basilisk would set off a chain of changes. He would have to destroy the Horcrux—the diary.
What he had in mind was to record Voldemort's dramatic return, then dramatically reveal that he, not Hagrid, had opened the Chamber back then.
Then destroy the Horcrux in a spectacular finale. Perfect.
But once he realized the basilisk had awakened, Harry thought of something he had overlooked: he couldn't just let it roam free and spread terror on campus. In the original story, no one had died—only a few students were petrified. But Harry couldn't guarantee that would happen in real life.
He wasn't a saint, but if innocent lives were lost because of him, then he would have to intervene.
So, here he was.
After casting an advanced Transfiguration spell, Harry transformed into a cat.
([Note: Not Animagus. He found it odd that Transfiguration was so powerful, yet only Animagi could become animals. He considered it a loophole.])
He quickly climbed the towering statue until he reached Slytherin's shoulder, then transformed back into himself.
The statue's mouth opened, revealing a gaping black hole.
Harry jumped in.
It was the mouth of Slytherin, but as large as a cavern. Deep within its massive space lay a coiled basilisk.
Just as Harry was about to drop into the throat, something red caught his eye.
Among a row of stone-carved fangs—each one as tall as Harry—sat a small object: a red ring.
"Σ(°Д°;"
Harry hadn't expected to find something so bizarre here.
To his knowledge, Voldemort had never ventured up here.
He had only stood at the foot of the statue to awaken the basilisk.
So, he had never discovered this ring.
Could it have been left by Slytherin himself?
Harry cast a curse-cleansing spell. The ring gave no reaction.
He picked it up.
A piercing pain stabbed into his brain like needles—but it disappeared in an instant.
"What the…"
Harry stared at the ring in disbelief. Through it, he felt some kind of spiritual connection forming…
Just then, the sound of stone shifting and the earlier magical disturbances startled the basilisk.
It slithered upward.
A massive, terrifying head rose up, locking its gaze on Harry.
"Ssssss…"
