Chapter 1 - Gravity Between Us- Chapter 1: The First Clash

Chapter 1: The First Clash

Thanapat or Than, as everyone called him stood rigidly beside the podium, polished shoes gleaming beneath the harsh auditorium lights.

The debate hall buzzed with energy, rows of students whispering excitedly as they waited for the final match to begin. Everything about Than was precise. Controlled. His uniform sat perfectly against his frame, every button fastened, tie straight, posture flawless.

Across from him stood the complete opposite.

Kitphum.

Kit.

Messy black hair fell over his forehead as he leaned lazily against the podium like this was a casual conversation instead of the university's biggest debate competition. His sleeves were rolled up carelessly, white shirt untucked, and a lazy smirk curved against his lips like he already knew something everyone else didn't.

Than's jaw tightened.

How is this guy my competition?

"Ready to lose?" Kit drawled, voice smooth with amusement.

Than narrowed his eyes immediately.

"Confidence without substance is meaningless."

A quiet laugh escaped Kit.

"Oh, don't worry," he said casually, straightening slightly. "I've got plenty of substance. Just not the stuck-up kind."

Than's grip on his notes tightened.

Before he could reply, the moderator called for silence.

The room instantly settled.

And the debate began.

Arguments flew across the stage like sharp blades.

Than spoke with razor-sharp precision, every statement backed with facts, statistics, and logic so airtight it was impossible to challenge directly. His voice carried confidence and authority, commanding the attention of everyone in the room.

Kit, however, fought differently.

He moved through the debate with effortless charm, dismantling arguments with clever remarks and quick comebacks that sent laughter rippling through the audience. Where Than was controlled fire, Kit was chaos wrapped in confidence.

And somehow…

It worked.

Than hated that it worked.

Every time Kit smirked after landing another point, irritation curled tighter in Than's chest.

By the final round, tension crackled between them like a live wire.

When the judges finally announced the winner, applause erupted across the auditorium.

"Team B takes the victory."

Kit's team.

Than's expression barely shifted, but his stomach twisted violently.

He hated losing.

Especially to someone like him.

Students crowded around Kit immediately, congratulating him as if he'd just won an award show instead of a debate competition. Kit laughed easily, soaking in the attention without effort.

Than forced himself forward anyway. Professional. Composed. Mature.

"Congratulations," he said stiffly, extending his hand.

Kit looked down at it for a second before shaking it firmly.

His grin was infuriating.

"Thanks," he said lazily. "Better luck next time, Mr. Perfect."

Than immediately pulled his hand back. "This isn't over."

Kit's smirk widened.

"Oh?" His eyes gleamed with amusement. "Sounds like a threat."

For a moment, neither of them looked away.

The tension felt strange.

Too sharp to be normal rivalry. Too electric to ignore.

Then Kit chuckled softly and stepped back.

"Guess university just got more interesting."

Than watched him walk away, irritation burning beneath his skin.

That night, sleep never came easily. Than lay awake in bed replaying every second of the debate in his mind every comeback, every smirk, every moment the audience laughed for Kit instead of him.

It drove him insane.

Meanwhile, across campus, Kit lounged on the rooftop of his dorm building with his phone balanced loosely in his hand. Congratulatory messages flooded his screen, but he barely paid attention to them. Instead, his mind drifted back to Than.

To the furious look in his eyes. To the way he carried himself like losing was something personally offensive.

Kit let out a quiet laugh to himself. Then he leaned back against the railing, staring at the city lights below. "This," he murmured with a smirk, "is going to be fun."
