Chapter 104 - A Dragon Summoned

So the last day passed rather quickly and in the evening the last most important event in this entire world would happen. An Incident just as Important as Percy's meeting with the fury at the museum. The thing that set all of this in motion.

The summoning of a dragon.

It was to happen in a rock formation somewhere on the outside of the black mountain. Luckily the two of us had had enough time to explore theountain over the last year so we knew the quickest way to it. It was a path unlike the dangerous one that Falco walked and unlike the safe one the ambassador, the mages and the soon to be battle mage walked. While all of them were traversing the mountain using slightly steep and or narrow wild paths, Ares and I instead just climbed the cliff which lead to one side of the formation. Coincidentally it was also facing the direction from which the dragon would appear.

As soon as we reached the top our senses tracked the presence of several other mages that were hiding around the formation and weaving containment spells that would allow for an easier time killing the dragon should it be black. It was a standard procedure.

Sadly for them the three of us, Ares, Falco and me, were not about to let the same tragedy happen as last time. Already I had cast several calmness and healing spells down below the cliff. The very one we planned to lure them to fall off. At first Falco had asked why we needed to do something like that but I explained it using his own experience.

"It will be easier to come to terms with the lies of the mages if the both of them spend some time alone with each other. And having people believe they died will be only beneficial for the time being."

Further down I had already set up a one-way portal to a pocket dimension. Big enough that it would let both of them fall through and capable of tracking their position and adapting to it.

But before all of that would work, we had to make sure the aggressors were taken care off. So while the Ambassador and a young mage by the name Meredith Saker found Falco sneaking around, not that he had tried that hard, the mages being insulted and annoyed by his presence. No one, not even the "summoner" noticed as slowly more and more mages passed out in their hiding spots. At least not until the dragon was already summoned by a reverberating bell strike, though magical in origin. Once they did notice, everyone but Falco grew restless. So while Ares and I finished of the rest of them, their spells having failed because of the panic, Falco was trying to calm down Meredith and Lucian. Something that shouldn't have worked nearly as quick as it did. It was almost like they already knew.....

Anyway, instead of the original struggle that was supposed to happen when the dragon landed, it was instead mesmerized by the many unconscious bodies strewn around the rock. Those included his summoner whom the two of us held above our heads like a proper human sacrifice, offering him up to the dragon to complete the bond.

Was this going against what many would perceive as moral? Yes. But here is the thing. That bell strike wasn't just a sign of the summoning, but also the sign of an accepted oath of brotherhood. Anyone that summons a dragon, should one show up, has essentially agreed to an oath with said dragon. That bond is also the reason why many that kill their dragons either descent into madness or depression. Anyway that is why neither Ares nor I cared what the unconscious guy would think. Because he had already agreed to it either way. Once the bond was active, the guy would rapidly begin to unvover the truth about black dragons which will end with the lies of the mages. As the inherent magic of the dragon allows it to share it's genetic memory, as in remembering the time of their ancestors as if they were personally there even if they weren't born yet, with their chosen brother/ sister. So all is well that ends well.

Maybe except....

"Who are you?" spoke the voice of Meredith Saker from behind. Only for Falco to pull him aside alongside Lucian.

Huh....so my guess was right. Falco isn't the only one to remember. I wonder who else.

Ah! Now the dragon took his rider under his wing.....why is he sitting on him like a hen on her egg? What?

Wait what am I hearing right now?

"Ares do you hear that?"

"Hmmm? No, I'm not hearing.....anything? Sounds like....what does it sound like?" There was confusion written on his face and he wasn't the only one. Everyone on this mountain, at least those conscious were now hearing what sounded like wings fluttering in the dawning night.

"Falco?"

"Yes?"

"You think it could be your....?"

"Probably...Sidian might remember as well. I know Malaki and those two remember. So Bryna and Sidian probably do, too."

"Guys....it doesn't sound like just one dragon." spoke Ares a certain amount of nervousness in his voice.

Damn. If there were more than one dragon then the chances were that our plans to remain unnoticed were ruined. Ruined I say.

The minutes passed and it became clearer that our suspicions were about to be proven correct. Two shapes slowly peeled off of the starry night sky. One larger and a lot bulkier than the other. That was to say the other was still big and muscular.

"That's Sidian. I would recognise him anywhere. But why is there a second dragon?"

"I'd assume that's because the two of us. We're both battle mages, you know." I said calmly, my voice almost getting swallowed by the sound of giant wings displacing massive volumes of air. But now that they were closer I noticed that there was a slight discrepancy in the sound. Two dragons were accounted for but there seemed to be a third pair involved. Much larger and higher than the other two. Almost as if the third dragon was flying much much higher than them.
