Chapter 962 - Will Yamcha Ascend to Godhood?

Zamasu's knowledge of science was limited. Most of Fu's technical equipment was completely beyond his comprehension, so he turned his attention to the display screens at the center of the room. "What are you doing here? Monitoring the multiverses?"

Fu waved a dismissive hand. "No — science has its limits too. At the moment, I can only monitor a handful of specific targets."

Zamasu studied the screens carefully and found that this was indeed the case. The figures being tracked were all powerful warriors who had been renowned across the multiverses for years.

Son Goku. Hit. Jiren. All within the surveillance perimeter.

As though guessing his thoughts, Fu spoke each word with deliberate precision. "You've seen that apocalyptic future vision, haven't you? My mother saw it too... From your perspective, Lord Zamasu, my mother was a member of the Demon Clan — a woman with evil running through every drop of blood in her veins."

"Wasn't she?"

"No. Being a Celestial Mage was just a title. My mother was a scientist. She secretly created a timeline unknown to anyone else and found a solution to that apocalypse — and that solution was science."

"So... what exactly do you want?" Zamasu asked the question that had been burning in his mind. Even though he himself had committed murder and arson, he still considered himself righteous and the Demon Clan evil. The only reason he was still listening was because he sensed no malicious aura from Fu.

Fu smiled but said nothing. Instead, he glanced toward the far end of the room, where another pitch-black spatial corridor had appeared. Footsteps echoed, and a tall man emerged — slightly lean in build, his face utterly calm.

Fu beckoned to him. "Mr. Broly, I'm sure you're full of questions as well. Please, have a seat. Let me explain everything to both you and Lord Supreme Kai Zamasu here."

Broly had spent many years drifting through the Sixth Universe. Son Goku, born on the very same day as him, was already a grandfather by now — so naturally, Broly was no longer young either. The wild madness that came with being a Legendary Super Saiyan had gradually come under control as his power continued to rise. These days he could hold a normal conversation and interact with people in his base form, no longer transforming into a muscle-bound berserker at the slightest provocation.

He was silent. He glanced at Zamasu, showed absolutely no intention of sitting down, and simply gave a single nod — a gesture that said: go ahead.

Fu leaned back hard into his chair, propped both legs up on the console, and let his whole body relax.

He spoke each word with measured care. "My purpose in seeking out the two of you is actually quite simple. I want your help to... assassinate Grand Zeno."

To prove he wasn't talking nonsense, he added casually, "Lord Supreme Kai certainly knows who Grand Zeno is. Mr. Broly may be a bit less informed on that front, so let me be direct — Grand Zeno is the supreme ruler of the entire multiverse. He is the master of all things, a terrifying existence capable of erasing an entire universe in an instant."

Zamasu let out a cold laugh. "My sincerest thanks for the lesson. Unfortunately, I have no desire to go throw my life away."

"Once Grand Zeno is eliminated, your plan to purge humanity will face no further obstacles," Fu said.

"I still don't want to die."

"What if I told you I give us a thirty percent chance of success?"

Zamasu stared hard at Fu, the way one stares at a madman.

How much had this guy been drinking? Spouting nonsense like this in broad daylight.

Fu turned to look at Broly on the other side.

The tall Saiyan's face was expressionless. He murmured a single name beneath his breath: "Kakarot."

Fu smiled. "Of course — as I promised before, that Son Goku, along with all the other Saiyans, can be handed over to you to deal with as you see fit."

Broly offered his tacit agreement and said nothing more.

Fu looked back at Zamasu.

Zamasu considered for a moment. He remained skeptical of Fu's plan, but he had confidence in his own immortal body. "Besides this so-called Legendary Super Saiyan," he asked, "do you have any other cards up your sleeve?"

"Of course."

"What?"

Fu waved a hand, and a crystal radiating seven-colored light materialized from thin air, slowly rotating in midair. "This. A seed from the World Tree."

...

The World of Void.

The grand melee had a total runtime of forty-eight minutes. Just five minutes in, the Ninth Universe — which had perpetually ranked last in Civilization Index — ran straight into the Seventh Universe.

The Ninth Universe's environment was defined by savagery, vendettas, and warfare. They looked fearsome on paper, but in practice their ten competing fighters had little trust among themselves and even less cohesion. The moment several of the Seventh Universe's Saiyan warriors each transformed and pressed forward together, the Ninth Universe was immediately put on the back foot.

As the two sides clashed, Frieza was doing the absolute minimum — quietly edging toward the rear to coast through the fight. As a result, Yamcha, who had been standing in the back row and planning to do the same, found himself directly facing the Ninth Universe's strongest warrior: Bergamo, the eldest of the "Trio of Danger," a wolf-like humanoid creature.

"Wolf Fang Blowing Wind Fist!"

A fake wolf versus a real one...

Yamcha hadn't taken part in battle for years. He'd trained for two hours in the Room of Spirit and Time beforehand, which had restored only a fraction of his former condition.

He let out a battle cry, ignored the mockery in his opponent's eyes, mimicked the movements of a wolf, and launched a relentless flurry of strikes aimed at his enemy's eyes, throat, and heart.

Bergamo neither dodged nor blocked. He absorbed the Wolf Fang Blowing Wind Fist head-on, converting each hit's attack energy into physical energy for himself, his body swelling to enormous proportions. Then, to Yamcha's stunned disbelief, he drove a single punch into his stomach.

"Gwah!" Yamcha spat out a spray of blood. The massive kinetic force sent his body flying like a ragdoll for over ten meters. He tumbled twice from the momentum, then lay completely still.

Did I kill him? Bergamo was startled — he really had forgotten to hold back — but his opponent had also been embarrassingly weak. He couldn't help craning his neck to look.

Yamcha lay on his right side, both hands shielding his face, legs curled up, completely motionless — seemingly devoid of any life signs.

"Damn it!" Bergamo turned back to look toward his own universe's Supreme Kai and Destroyer. Without warning, Yamcha suddenly leapt up and fired a Kamehameha straight into his face.

The blue wolf warrior flew into a rage.

The result was never in doubt. Yamcha was kicked clean out of the arena by Bergamo and became the first competitor from the Seventh Universe to be eliminated and sent back to the spectator seats.

His elimination, however, was not without value.

He had held Bergamo down for the better part of a minute. Without their anchor, the Ninth Universe's warriors each fought alone with no coordination, and were swiftly eliminated one by one. In the end, Bergamo found himself nine-against-one — and no amount of size-up could save him after that.

"Wow, Son Goku and the others are amazing!" Grand Zeno waved his little hand as though playing a video game, and the Ninth Universe simply ceased to exist — vanishing as though it had never been there at all. The competitors, Supreme Kai, and Destroyer from the Ninth Universe's spectator platform disappeared right along with it.

Ino paid the erasure of the Ninth Universe absolutely no mind. She looked toward the Divine Registry and contemplated Yamcha's performance.

This man was a legend — the first to hug Chichi, nearly becoming the Ox-King's son-in-law, and the one who scored the first kiss from Bulma... If you looked carefully, you could actually see that Gohan's facial structure resembled Yamcha's quite a bit. A man this impressive — surely he deserved to be registered as a god? That wasn't too much to ask, was it?
