Callan's car moved through the quiet streets.
The lights from the city passed across the windshield in slow flashes. Inside the car, soft music played from the speakers.
Emily sat in the passenger seat, looking out of the window.
Then she suddenly laughed.
Callan glanced at her. "What?"
"I still can't believe that we won."
Callan laughed. "Really?"
Emily turned to him. "Really. I honestly didn't think we were going to."
He raised a brow. "But you made me believe you thought we could win."
"I hoped we could win. I wanted you to hope so too."
Callan shook his head. "Hope? Seriously? You sounded confident."
Emily laughed.
"You sat there saying we had known each other the longest. You made it sound like we had some secret advantage."
"We did have an advantage."
"What advantage?"
"We know each other and have lots of experience together."
Callan smiled. "Hmm. So why didn't you think we'd win?"
