Chapter 228 - Thor vs Godzilla

Tony stared at the roaring titan on the feed for another second before tapping the small receiver in his ear.

"Dad."

The line clicked alive almost instantly. Howard Stark's voice came through, "Tony. I assume this is about the nuclear-sized problem currently lighting up half our satellites."

Tony expanded the holographic display again, watching the massive creature step through shattered Arctic ice.

"Yeah. That's the problem. Listen carefully, because this part is important." He zoomed the sensor grid over the creature's glowing dorsal plates. "Tell the military not to fire any nuclear weapons or energy-based weapons at that thing."

Howard paused.

"That is usually our go-to option for giant radioactive monsters."

Tony shook his head, studying the rapidly climbing readings on the scan panel.

"Bad idea. That giant freak feeds on energy—especially nuclear energy. The more radiation you throw at it, the stronger it gets. You might as well try to stop a forest fire by pouring gasoline on it."

Howard's voice sharpened slightly. "You're sure?"

Tony rotated another scan panel and watched the readings spike again as the creature roared.

"Oh, yeah. I'm sure. Evacuate every ship, submarine, and aircraft within a three-hundred-mile radius. Clear the coastline too. That thing sneezes and Alaska becomes beachfront property."

A short silence followed.

Then Howard sighed. "Fine. But if this goes sideways, I'm blaming you during the congressional hearing."

Tony grinned faintly. "Good news. If this goes sideways, there won't be a congressional hearing."

Howard groaned. "I hate when you say things like that."

Tony lifted his hand, opening a swirling blue portal beside the café table.

"Relax, Dad. I'll take care of it."

He ended the call before Howard could respond.

The portal hummed with bright blue light.

Wanda stood immediately, red energy flickering faintly around her hands as she stared through the opening at the frozen ocean beyond.

"You are serious about fighting that thing?" She asked.

Tony flexed his fingers, and a soft golden glow spread across his skin as his cosmic energy awakened. "Oh, absolutely," he said casually. "I just finished my coffee. That means I'm emotionally prepared to fight a nuclear dinosaur."

Wanda shook her head with a small smile as she stepped closer.

"You have a very strange definition of normal days."

Tony offered his hand. "Come on. Let's go meet the neighbor."

Wanda took it, and together they stepped through the portal.

The moment they emerged above the frozen ocean, brutal Arctic wind slammed into them.

Chunks of shattered ice drifted across the water while massive waves rolled outward from the remains of a destroyed iceberg. At the center of the chaos stood the towering nuclear titan.

Godzilla lifted its head and released another thunderous roar that shook the air itself.

"MRAAAWWWW!"

Tony hovered in the sky, staring at the massive creature.

"Okay," he muttered. "I take back the dinosaur comment."

Wanda floated beside him, red energy curling around her fingers as she studied the monster below. "That thing is bigger than Stark Tower."

Tony nodded slowly. "And significantly less friendly."

Before either of them could move, another portal ripped across the clouds above the ocean.

Out of it fell a very familiar blond man, dropping through the air like an extremely enthusiastic meteor.

Thor landed on a floating slab of ice with enough force to crack it in half. He looked up at the gigantic monster with wild determination burning in his eyes.

"BEAST!"

Tony blinked.

"Oh no."

"Today I prove my worth again!" Thor clenched his fists and shouted toward the sky.

Tony rubbed his forehead. "Oh, absolutely not."

Thor did not wait for commentary.

Without his hammer and without even a moment of hesitation, the Asgardian charged across the broken ice toward the towering nuclear titan like a man who had completely forgotten the concept of self-preservation.

"FACE ME!" He yelled.

Godzilla lowered its massive head and stared at the approaching figure.

For a brief moment, the titan seemed confused by the tiny warrior sprinting toward it across the ice.

Then Thor jumped.

He launched himself into the air and slammed both fists directly into the monster's snout.

The impact echoed like a cannon blast.

Godzilla's head shifted slightly from the strike.

Thor landed on the creature's nose and immediately started punching it in the face. "YOU WILL FALL BEFORE THE SON OF ODIN!"

Tony hovered in the air, watching the scene unfold with stunned disbelief. Wanda floated beside him, equally speechless.

Thor continued hammering his fists into the titan's face while roaring battle cries.

Godzilla blinked slowly and lifted one enormous claw and swatted at the screaming Asgardian. Thor flipped over and dodged before landing on its back. He grabbed one of the dorsal spines.

"YOUR POWER IS IMPRESSIVE!" Thor yelled while punching its plates.

Godzilla responded by twisting its massive body and slamming sideways into the ocean.

A tidal wave exploded outward as the titan crashed into the water.

Thor shot upward through the freezing spray like a missile leaving the ocean.

For a moment, he hung high above the battlefield, his silhouette framed against the gray Arctic sky while the titanic creature below twisted through the waves. Water cascaded off Godzilla's armored scales as the monster lifted its head again and roared into the storming wind.

"MRAAAWWWW!"

Thor's eyes burned with fierce joy.

"YES!" he shouted back. "ROAR LOUDER, BEAST!"

Then he dropped.

The fall turned into a streak of blond hair and muscle cutting through the clouds like a descending comet. Air screamed around him as gravity pulled him straight toward the monster's skull.

Tony crossed his arms while hovering beside Wanda and watched the rapidly falling Asgardian with a very familiar expression of reluctant curiosity.

"Okay," he muttered, "that is either going to be incredibly stupid or incredibly awesome."

Thor struck.

His boots and fists slammed into the crown of Godzilla's head with a thunderous impact that echoed across the frozen ocean. The force of the collision sent a shockwave rippling across the surrounding water, flattening nearby waves and blasting chunks of ice outward like shrapnel.

Thor planted his feet against the titan's skull and immediately began hammering both fists downward in a relentless barrage.

Each punch sounded like artillery fire.

"FALL!"

Boom.

"BEFORE!"

Boom.

"THE SON!"

Boom.

"OF ODIN!"

Boom.

The shockwaves from his blows rippled through the air, distorting the mist and shaking the floating ice sheets around them.

"YOU WILL YIELD!" Thor roared as his fists crashed against the armored scales.

Godzilla's head jerked slightly under the assault. The titan blinked in what could only be described as mild irritation before opening its jaws in another thunderous roar.

The creature twisted violently and lashed its massive tail across the water, sending another tidal surge across the battlefield.

Thor held on with one hand while continuing to punch with the other.

"IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE?"

High above the fight, Wanda watched the scene with wide eyes.

"I cannot believe he is doing that," she said quietly.

Tony nodded slowly while studying the battle. "He's lost without his hammer and doesn't even realize his own power, yet. Hopefully, he'll awaken his real strength in this battle."

Below them, Godzilla tried to shake the stubborn Asgardian loose by diving forward again. The monster crashed through the waves and rolled sideways, sending a wall of freezing water exploding into the air.

Thor was thrown free from the titan's head.

For a split second he disappeared beneath the churning surface.

Then he burst back out of the ocean like a rising missile and landed again on Godzilla's skull with another earthshaking impact.

The second landing produced an even larger shockwave that blasted water outward in a perfect circular ring.

Tony squinted slightly.

Tiny white arcs of electricity flickered across Thor's arms as he raised both fists again.

"Interesting," Tony murmured.

Wanda followed his gaze.

Thin strands of lightning crawled across Thor's skin like living threads of light. They sparked across his shoulders and flickered along his clenched fists each time he struck the titan's armored hide.

Thor clearly did not notice.

He simply kept punching.

"YOU ARE A MIGHTY FOE!" he shouted between blows. "BUT I AM THOR, SON OF ODIN! THE GOD OF THUNDER! AND I WON'T ALLOW YOU TO WREAK HAVOC IN THE MIDGARD IN MY PRESENCE!"

Another punch landed with enough force to rattle the surrounding ice floes.

The crackling energy around his arms flared slightly brighter.

Tony tilted his head, watching the phenomenon with growing fascination. "Well, look at that," he said softly.

Wanda glanced toward him. "What is happening?"

Tony pointed toward the battlefield below. "Thor's lightning."

Wanda frowned.

"But he does not have his hammer."

"Exactly."

Tony's eyes remained fixed on the flickering sparks dancing around the Asgardian's body.

Godzilla suddenly twisted again and snapped its jaws upward, trying to catch the tiny warrior clinging to its skull. Thor jumped clear of the massive bite and landed squarely on the titan's snout before delivering another bone-rattling punch.

The shockwave rolled across the ocean like thunder.

More lightning crawled across Thor's arms.

He still did not seem aware of it.

Tony folded his arms while hovering in place, clearly enjoying the unexpected discovery.

"Interesting timing," he said quietly.

Wanda watched Thor leap across the monster's head again, still raining blows against the giant reptile.

"You are not going to stop him?"

Tony shook his head with a faint smile.

"Not yet."

Below them, Thor raised both fists high above his head and brought them crashing down onto Godzilla's skull again.

A powerful shockwave erupted outward.

This time, a sharp crack of thunder followed the strike as a visible arc of lightning snapped across the air around his body.

Thor froze for half a second.

He looked down at his glowing hands with confusion.

"By Odin's beard…" he muttered.

Godzilla chose that exact moment to snap its jaws upward again.

Thor barely had time to leap backward as the titanic teeth slammed shut where he had been standing. He landed hard on a floating chunk of ice.

Godzilla's dorsal plates began to glow one by one with a deep yellow glow, along with its entire body.

High above the battlefield, Tony watched the confused Asgardian while the lightning continued dancing across Thor's arms.

"Oh yeah," Tony said under his breath.

"This is about to get really fun."

A slow grin spread across Tony's face as he flicked his finger, shifting the space and reality, isolating Godzilla, Thor, Wanda and himself on a ruined planet.
