Nearly three hours after Janet left, the door to Ella's hospital room quietly opened. Alexander stepped inside, his gaze immediately landed on Ella. Seeing her fast asleep, a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
He quietly walked over to the bed and gently pulled the blanket higher over her shoulders. Satisfied that she was comfortable, he leaned down to brush a loose strand of hair away from her face.
Not wanting to disturb her, he settled onto the sofa by the window. Opening his laptop, he buried himself in work, the soft clicking of the keyboard becoming the only sound in the room.
Almost an hour later, he heard movement behind him. Looking up, he found Ella blinking sleepily as she stretched.
"Hey, sleepy one," he greeted with a smile, quickly saving the file he had been working on before closing the laptop.
Ella rubbed her eyes before looking at him. "Don't call me that." She grumbled.
"Why?" Alexander asked, amusement evident in his voice as he stood.
