For a while, they sat in silence, the puppy sleeping, Aramith thinking, Mai brooding.
The puppy shifted slightly, seeking a more comfortable position.
"Mai, I want you to check something."
Mai nodded with her head lowered, then floated above him.
"I can check for any odd things in the realm now. I'm...okay," she suggested, knowing what Aramith would want her to do, but he shook his head.
"Let them search, I want you to check this creature, if you can find anything important."
Mai looked at the puppy, then back at Aramith.
If she scanned the realm, it would be faster than letting the wolves do it. She was about to question him when Aramith shook his head.
"I know what I'm doing, Mai."
She paused, then felt disappointed for questioning Aramith's decision.
She raised her hand and gently approached the puppy. Just when her fingers brushed against the fur, it whimpered and shifted away.
"I..." Mai froze, looking at Aramith.
