Not long after, Xia Yuqing led Lu Jinchen away.
The corridor was quiet, their footsteps soft against the floor as they moved. This time, neither of them spoke. Words felt unnecessary when their hands remained tightly clasped together, as though either feared the other might disappear again if they let go.
When they finally reached the room she had rented, Xia Yuqing pushed the door open and stepped inside. The moment Lu Jinchen followed and shut the door behind them, the world outside seemed to vanish completely.
For a heartbeat, they simply stood there.
Seconds later, Lu Jinchen moved. He closed the distance in a single step, his hand catching her wrist as he pulled her gently but firmly back. Xia Yuqing barely had time to react before her back met the wall.
His lips found hers again. This time, there was no hesitation.
