Chapter 7 - Four years later

Isha POV

Four years.

It had been four long years since I had left Crescent Moon Pack.

Four years since I had walked away from Kabir.

Four years since I had tried to break the bond that was supposed to connect us for the rest of our lives.

And today, I was finally going back.

I was sitting inside the airplane, looking through the window as the clouds slowly passed beneath me.

I was going back to New Wales.

The same place where my old life had once begun.

The same place where my heart had been broken.

I took a deep breath and leaned my head against the seat.

So much had changed in these four years.

When I had arrived in New York, I had nothing except a suitcase, some money and a broken heart.

I had promised myself that I would never depend on anyone again.

I wanted to build a life where nobody could control me.

And I did.

I studied hard and completed my law degree.

Today, I was a successful lawyer working at one of the reputed law firms in New York.

I had my own apartment.

My own car.

My own career.

My own money.

My own life.

I had travelled to different places, met new people and made friends.

I had everything that I had once dreamed of.

Everything...

Except peace in my heart.

I smiled bitterly at myself.

"Maybe happiness is not about having everything."

I looked outside the window.

The sky was beautiful.

But somehow my heart still felt empty.

I had spent four years trying to forget one man.

Kabir.

My husband.

My fated mate.

My Alpha.

The man who had broken my heart into pieces.

I hated myself for still thinking about him.

I should hate him.

After everything he had done to me, I should have forgotten him completely.

But I couldn't.

No matter how hard I tried.

Sometimes when I was alone in my apartment at night, I would remember his deep blue eyes.

His voice.

His scent.

His strong presence.

The way my wolf Pia used to become restless whenever he was near me.

And then I would remind myself of the reason I left.

I would remember his betrayal.

His relationship with Patricia.

His cruel words.

The way he had treated me like I was nothing more than a wife he needed for his position.

I would tell myself again and again...

He doesn't deserve your love.

You don't love him anymore.

You have moved on.

But my heart never listened to my mind.

Pia was still quiet inside me.

She had never truly accepted the separation.

Even after four years.

Sometimes I would ask her,

"Why do you still love him?"

And she would simply remain silent.

As if she already knew the answer.

Because he was our mate.

I closed my eyes.

A small tear escaped from the corner of my eye.

I quickly wiped it away.

"No more tears, Isha."

I whispered to myself.

"I am not that weak girl anymore."

Four years had changed me.

I was no longer the nervous eighteen-year-old girl who had fainted when she first saw her future husband.

I was no longer the weak Omega everyone had looked down upon.

I had become independent.

Strong.

Confident.

I had learned how to stand on my own feet.

But somewhere deep inside my heart...

I was still the same girl who once wished to be loved by her husband.

The same girl who had believed that Kabir could become her true love.

The same girl who had waited for him.

Maybe that was the saddest part.

I had moved on with my life.

But a small part of my heart had never moved on from him.

The captain announced that we would be landing soon.

I looked through the window again.

The familiar city slowly came into view.

New Wales.

My old home.

I felt a strange heaviness in my chest.

I had no idea why.

Maybe it was because I knew that going back meant facing my past.

My father.

My old pack.

The people who once knew me as the Luna of Crescent Moon Pack.

And him.

Kabir.

I didn't know whether he was still the same person.

I didn't know if he had married someone else.

I didn't know if he still remembered me.

Maybe he had moved on.

Maybe he had forgotten me completely.

That thought hurt more than I wanted to admit.

I looked down at my hands.

There was no wedding ring on my finger.

I had removed it years ago.

But the mark on my neck...

I touched it gently.

The mate mark was still there.

The bond had never been properly broken.

Kabir had refused to complete the ritual.

At that time, I had hated him for it.

Now...

I didn't know how I felt.

I should have been angry.

I should have wanted nothing to do with him.

But instead, my heart was beating faster just thinking about seeing him again.

I laughed softly at myself.

"Why are you doing this to me, heart?"

There was no answer.

I looked outside the window as the plane began its descent.

Four years ago, I had left this place as a broken wife.

Today, I was returning as a successful lawyer.

I had built a new identity for myself.

Isha Singh.

Not Luna Isha.

Not Kabir's wife.

Just Isha.

And I promised myself one thing.

Whatever happened after I landed...

I would never allow Kabir Chaudhary to break me again.

I had survived him once.

I could survive seeing him again.

At least...

That was what I kept telling myself.
