Chapter 580 - Chapter 580: The TV Drama Airs

After finishing their first and second classes of the morning, Ichin and Yukino had no more classes for the time being. Utaha, however, had classes in the first and third periods, so after Ichin and Yukino were done, they headed over to the classroom where Utaha would be attending her next class.

In the Literature Department, there were noticeably more girls in Utaha's class. The male-to-female ratio was roughly one to three—about thirty female students and eight male students.

As soon as Ichin and Yukino entered, they immediately attracted quite a bit of attention from the class. Still, no one was particularly surprised, since everyone already knew about the relationship between Ichin and Utaha.

These two were probably the only couple at Todai in the past two years who had actually gotten married while still in university.

What people hadn't expected, though, was that Yukinoshita Yukino—who was extremely popular over in the Law Department—would come along with them.

Those who knew the situation immediately explained it to their classmates, and everyone suddenly understood.

So she was Ichin's god-sister, huh? And Yukinoshita Yukino even had an older sister, who was also very beautiful.

That realization only made the few male students in the class even more envious. How could someone be this lucky?

Even though there were far more girls than boys in their class, not a single one of those guys had managed to get a girlfriend yet.

Ichin, meanwhile, paid no attention to the gazes around him and brought Yukino straight over to Utaha.

Utaha had already saved seats, letting Ichin and Yukino sit on her left and right.

After sitting down, Ichin took a can of hot coffee he had just bought out of his bag and placed it in front of Utaha.

"Here. The hot coffee you asked me to bring."

"Thanks, Ichin~~"

Opening it and taking a sip, Utaha smiled and said, "I went to bed late last night. After finishing one class, I was already really sleepy during the break. I was planning to buy some myself, but the nearest vending machine was sold out of coffee."

"Isn't it just because the first episode of your drama aired? You really were a bit too excited."

That was right—last night, the TV drama Under the Clear Sky, for which Utaha served as the screenwriter, had finally officially aired.

Because it was a drama written by Utaha, not only Ichin, Yukino, and Haruno watched it, but even Yagami Kō and the others downstairs came over. Even Utaha's parents joined in to watch the first episode.

Although it was an idol drama, the cast chosen this time was quite good. At the very least, their acting was above the passing line, their looks were solid, and the cinematography and costumes were all well done. On top of that, Utaha's script itself had no issues. After the first episode aired, the ratings were unexpectedly very good.

There was also a lot of discussion about the drama online. Many people who were readers of Utaha's novels tuned in to watch the TV version, contributing to the ratings.

A 3.6% rating for the first episode was already a very solid start in this internet-dominated era.

Since it was her own script and she had already seen the preview cuts long ago, Utaha was very confident about the subsequent ratings.

No wonder she had been so excited last night that she ended up going to bed very late.

Smiling, Yukino said from the side, "Earlier in class, quite a few girls in my department were also discussing this drama. Once the later episodes air, Utaha, as your first work as a TV screenwriter, it should be considered a real success."

"That's right. You can't judge everything from just the first episode—you have to wait for the later ratings and reviews." As she spoke, confidence slowly filled Utaha's face. "But I have faith in my script. I don't need to be overly nervous anymore. I can focus on polishing the first volume of my new novel properly, and then start looking into film scripts."

Utaha was brimming with confidence now, and her future career path was clearly planned out. Besides continuing with novels, she would keep working as a TV screenwriter, and if she had the chance, she also wanted to try writing movie scripts.

For someone like Utaha, who possessed outstanding literary talent, this kind of work really suited her perfectly.

While they were talking, even though the class bell hadn't rung yet, the teacher for the next class had already walked in—a female lecturer close to forty years old.

After coming in and setting down her lesson materials, she looked toward Utaha and said with a smile, "Kasumigaoka-san, I watched the drama you wrote as the screenwriter. It was very good—I'll definitely keep following it."

Utaha replied happily, "Thank you for your support."

The teacher then noticed Ichin sitting next to Utaha. She smiled slightly but didn't say anything else, instead preparing to begin the lesson.

From that day on, Utaha's popularity at college rose even further—especially among the girls.

After all, the script she wrote was an idol drama. This type of show naturally attracted young women's attention, and the male leads were both recently popular idol actors, which only made it more appealing.

As for the guys, although quite a few of them also followed idols, they weren't particularly interested in idol dramas. Instead, Ichin was much more popular on their side.

Games, after all—there were very few young men who didn't have anything to do with them.

Once the morning classes were over, and after once again attracting a wave of attention in the cafeteria, the three of them finally left campus and headed to the company.

In the car, Utaha and Yukino sat together in the back seat. After looking through some of the evening's online discussions about the drama, Utaha turned to Ichin and said, "Ichin, Yukino and I will head back a bit earlier this afternoon. We still need to buy groceries and cook dinner."

Ichin nodded, turning the steering wheel to make a right turn. "Sure. Then you two can take the car this afternoon. After work, I'll hitch a ride back with Kō-san."

"Okay, it's settled then." After replying, Utaha looked at Yukino beside her with a rather helpless expression. "Yukino, do you think I should just go learn how to drive too?"

"Hmm…"

Yukino thought for a moment, then said, "Probably not. This might sound a bit blunt, but Utaha, just like Eriri, you really don't have the talent for driving. If we need to go out in the future and Ichin is busy, I'll just drive."

Up front, Ichin, gripping the steering wheel, also chimed in, "That's right—just do what Yukino says. Utaha, you haven't forgotten what happened when you dragged me into letting you drive during New Year's, right? Your hands and feet were completely uncoordinated. You should give up on that idea. Look at Eriri—she doesn't even bring it up anymore. Everyone has things they're bad at. That's normal."

Mentioning that New Year incident, Utaha shot Ichin an annoyed glare, and really did stop bringing it up.

After arriving at the company and hearing that several new maps for Fall Guys had been completed, Utaha immediately tossed the idea of learning to drive out of her head and dragged Yukino along to try them out.
