Chapter 164 - CHAPTER 164: The Final Battle Begins

As fellow physical attack swordsmen, purely based on stats, the Dragon Destruction Swordsman was one tier lower than Chaos Soldier.

But when adding the monster effect, the situation was completely different!

Setting aside even the "gods" that Chase knew little about, the strongest creatures in Fairy Tail were undoubtedly the giant dragons.

Whether it was the Five God Dragons or the Black Dragon Acnologia with absolute magic immunity, they were powerful enemies he would have to face in the future.

Even the most common giant dragon could bring great threat and disaster to himself and the guild!

So, in this situation where summoning Slifer the Sky Dragon was still difficult, the Dragon Destruction Swordsman with its anti-dragon special attack effect was particularly important. At the very least, it provided another option.

Moreover, the Dragon Destruction Swordsman could fuse with the Dark Magician to become the even more powerful Super Magical Swordsman (Dark Paladin)!

Unfortunately, through earlier testing, Chase had already learned that fusion summons were a type of special summons. He needed to obtain the corresponding fusion monster card first.

But now that he had the Dragon Destruction Swordsman, could the Super Magical Swordsman be far behind?

This period was relatively safe. As long as he didn't seek death by picking a fight with the Five God Dragons or Acnologia, he still had plenty of time to play safe and scale!

A sudden, piercing electrical sound from the sky interrupted Chase's thoughts.

Looking up, he saw the numerous lightning magic crystals high above already charging. The interconnected electric light they emitted illuminated the entire town of Magnolia.

Because of his intervention, Natsu and Gajeel hadn't clashed with Laxus as in the original story. Combined with the various effects of his neutral party role on the civil war, Thunder Palace hadn't been destroyed in advance.

Time seemed to be running out...

Chase brushed the dust off his clothes and walked toward Natsu and Gajeel, who were arguing on the ruins.

The specifics of the Dragon Destruction Swordsman's actual effects and contract signing would have to wait. The most pressing issue now was to end the civil war by beating up Laxus!

"Damn it! We need to recruit Chase quickly so he can beat that bastard Laxus!"

Natsu noticed the increasingly violent magic crystals in the sky. He braced his hands on his knees and stood up. "Hey, Chase! We still have the card game option, right?!"

"Even though I feel my chances are even lower than fighting, it's the only choice!"

Gajeel also tremblingly stood up. Beneath his lowered eyelids was a steadfast gaze.

"Theoretically, yes. However—"

Chase stopped before them and pointed at the battered surroundings. "Unfortunately, the duel platform has been blown up."

"NANI?!!"

The twin dragons, ready to show off their card skills, were shocked. They held their heads and widened their eyes.

"Actually, playing cards or not doesn't matter. Because now, I'm on your side." Chase said.

Hearing this, Gajeel's face lit up with joy. He remained silent.

He wasn't stupid enough to ask why Chase had suddenly changed his mind. As long as this monster-strong man was willing to join the fight, that was the best outcome!

Then the next second, the simple-minded Natsu shouted directly, "But the two of us together couldn't even beat you!"

"Are you an idiot?! Who cares about the reason?!" Gajeel couldn't help but angrily squirted with sawtooth fangs.

"Oh, I don't remember saying you had to beat me."

With that, a magic circle lit up beneath Chase's feet. He held Energy Potion · Super Z in his palm to replenish his magic power.

While drinking the strangely colored drink, he held up a finger and explained with a smile, "The courage to challenge an opponent you know is unbeatable is rare and precious. So, for the card game option, you need to beat me. As for fighting whoever chooses it wins, regardless of the outcome."

This wasn't a last-minute decision. He had made it before joining the civil war as a neutral party.

Unfortunately, including Lucy and Evergreen, every challenger who had come had chosen to play cards!

Of course, to be fair, this "hidden rule" was somewhat biased.

In the entire guild, only the rash, impetuous Natsu would unhesitatingly choose the latter.

"Tch. I should have let Lucy do it." Natsu curled his lip in regret.

"...You really think of every 'good thing' for that bitch girl!" Gajeel shouted.

Even if, as Chase said, just challenging counted as passing, they still would have had to legitimately fight him.

If even their fusion, two Dragon Slayers, couldn't touch him, Lucy's fate was obvious.

"Actually, to me, you two are no different from Lucy."

This short sentence immediately got under their skin. They started shouting and yelling.

Chase ignored them. He tossed the empty bottle aside, stepped forward, and a magic circle flashed on his right arm.

Although he knew Laxus's true heart, before beating him up, just in case, he still neeed to deal with Thunder Palace, which threatened the safety of the entire town.

HUM!

Dark gold magic power exploded, all gathered into the summoned Right Arm of the Forbidden One.

Natsu saw his intention and quickly stopped him. "Wait, Chase! The master said destroying them one by one is useless. And just destroying one will cause a terrible backlash!"

"The fire dragon's right. It's too dangerous!" Gajeel also advised.

With the master sick and most of the guild unable to fight, if something happened to Chase now, no one would be left to stop Laxus!

"Dangerous? That's just what you think..."

Under Natsu and Gajeel's shocked gazes, Chase smiled calmly and punched the air toward Thunder Palace above.

His heavy fist solidly hit the dark gold magic circle. Light instantly bloomed. A Magic Card emerged from it.

[Magic Card: Diffusing Wave]: Expands a magical attack from a single target to all targets judged as enemies. The more targets, the more magic power consumed.

Because of its significant area attack effect, Chase usually used this card as "Little Fairy Law," specifically for clearing out small fry and mobs.

Although Thunder Palace's lightning was powerful, the crystals themselves were quite fragile (Lucy could break one with a whip). They wouldn't consume too much magic power.

More importantly, targets destroyed by Diffusing Wave couldn't activate their effects. It was the absolute bane of Thunder Palace!

HUM, HUM, HUM.

Boosted by the Magic Card, centered on Chase's fist, dark gold energy waves spread in all directions. Their target was clear: the lightning magic crystals floating high above!

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

Wherever the fist wind passed, the lightning magic crystals exploded one after another like brilliant fireworks.

The spectacular scene drew countless passersby to stop and watch, praising Fairy Tail for having so many programs.

Watching the unscathed Chase, Natsu and Gajeel were dumbfounded. No lightning struck back?!

On the other side, the eastern forest.

On the battered battlefield, after the fierce magical exchange, the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl both pulled back to Freed and Mira.

After the fight, the severely injured Freed was exhausted, breathing heavily. Even standing was difficult.

Mira, forced to relieve her demon form, was also unable to fight. But unlike Freed's severe injuries, she simply didn't have enough magic power left.

"Freed, the master is joining the fight. Our cooperation ends here."

The Dark Magician looked up at the now completely destroyed Thunder Palace.

"Finally unable to hold back, huh, Chase..." Freed's expression was complicated. A hint of relief was in his voice.

When he had heard Laxus was starting a civil war, his heart had actually been very conflicted about having to fight his comrades — especially after the extremely dangerous Thunder Palace appeared. That conflict and worry had reached its peak.

Perhaps letting Chase stop Laxus was the best outcome.

He thought this.

"It's fine. I enjoyed fighting alongside you."

"The rune theory topic I promised you will have to wait until this is over."

Freed sighed heavily. "If... I can still stay in the guild after this."

With that, his body, which had long reached its limit, finally gave out. He knelt on the ground.

"Hooray! Mira-nee, we won!" Dark Magician Girl happily clenched her fist.

As the Dark Magician had said, despite her exclusive Magic Card boost, she had still been beaten badly, nearly kicking the bucket.

"Yes!" Mira nodded firmly, a relieved smile spreading on her lips.

Since Chase had started acting, the civil war could be considered over early.

"Let's go, stupid apprentice."

"Yes, Master!"

After saying goodbye to Mira, the Dark Magician master and apprentice turned into a dark and a pink streak of light, flying toward Chase's location.

At the same time, the card monsters in other places also received the summons and disappeared.

Magnolia Cathedral.

Raging lightning clashed. Wherever the electric arcs passed, rows of glass windows shattered.

Erza, wearing her Lightning Empress Armor and holding the Lightning Empress Lance, had two long, heroic ponytails slowly swaying in the wind.

Just moments ago, while running through the streets, she had conveniently taken care of Bickslow, whom she had encountered. Then, drawn by the sound of Laxus and Mystogan's fight, she had successfully found her way here.

Distracted by her sudden appearance, Mystogan had his mask knocked off by Laxus, revealing a face identical to Jellal's.

Knowing what this face meant to Erza, Mystogan lost the will to fight and hurriedly fled the scene.

What was that explosion just now? Someone destroyed Thunder Palace? And Mystogan... who is he really...

Erza frowned. Her thoughts were somewhat disordered.

CRACKLE!

Thunder rumbled. Lightning struck.

Erza quickly raised the Lightning Empress Lance and activated a barrier to block the attack.

"Damn Chase! Repeatedly breaking the game rules—"

Feeling Thunder Palace being completely erased, Laxus's eyes turned scarlet.

His face was furious. Surging, violent magic power erupted like a volcano. At the same time, dragon fangs appeared in his mouth. The muscles in his upper body rapidly expanded, making his already burly, powerful frame look even more oppressive.

"Laxus, could you also be?!" Erza's pupils sharply contracted.

On that power-packed muscle, she saw dragon scales — something only Natsu and Gajeel, as Dragon Slayers, had!

"That's right. He's a second-generation Dragon Slayer — one who implanted a Dragon Slayer crystal."

A calm voice from behind answered her question.

Erza spun around. Sure enough, she saw that familiar, reassuring face. She couldn't help but smile. "Chase!"

"Erza, I'll take it from here."

Without further explanation, Chase stretched his muscles and walked toward Laxus, surrounded by increasingly surging dark gold magic power.

Erza nodded, disarmed her Lightning Empress Armor, and silently stepped aside.

"Chase, where did you hear that?" Bathed in lightning, Laxus asked coldly.

Because Makarov had always been a nag, he hadn't told anyone else this secret.

"Does it matter?" Chase stopped.

"I suppose not. Right now, all I want to do is grind your bones to dust!"

After a short pause, Laxus roared and freely liberated his lightning power.

"Let's begin! The battle for the strongest in Fairy Tail!"
