Dusk settled over the harbor in slow layers, the last of the light catching the water in long orange streaks before the underwater facility's outer lights took over, throwing pale blue up through the observation windows into the common area above.
Noah sat on the edge of the low wall bordering the courtyard, one leg hanging off the side, the other bent up so he could rest his arm on his knee. The coin turned over in his fingers, flipping end over end in a lazy rhythm he wasn't really thinking about anymore. Heads. Tails. Heads. The eclipse pressed into the metal caught the blue light every time it landed face up.
Footsteps behind him. He didn't need to turn around.
"There he is," Kelvin said, dropping down onto the wall beside him without asking. "The man. The myth. The guy who apparently kidnapped my future wife's best friend for an entire evening and didn't even bring her back with a receipt."
"She's not kidnapped, Kelvin. Also, Diana and Sophie are best friends?"
