As he gazed at her with something like respect, Hwayeong merely shrugged.
“I’ve never paid much attention to others.”
“Exactly. Your temperament is perfectly suited for palace life.”
Sinyeong resumed his unconvincing pitch, insisting the palace was where she truly belonged.
Hwayeong only fixed him with a steady look and smiled.
“So you’re saying I should marry into the palace?”
“Yes. You’re made for palace life. You look as if you were born into the royal family.”
When he gently tried to coax her into giving up the marketplace once and for all, Hwayeong only laughed.
“Do you want me that much?”
“You’re the one who wants me.”
“And why would you think that?”
“Why else would you decide to stay in the palace you insisted you hated?”
‘So you must like me that much.’ Sinyeong gave a scoffing laugh, but Hwayeong only tilted her head.
“I said I would marry Your Highness, but I never said I would stay in the palace. That’s an entirely different matter.”
