Chapter 237 - Chapter 237: Jun Mo's Smile

Jun Mo had just stepped out of his room when he saw Liang Chengnian hurrying over.

Seeing him emerge, Liang Chengnian stopped in his tracks, gazing steadily at him.

Jun Mo said nothing, brushing past him.

Liang Chengnian watched his retreating back until it vanished from sight, then turned and entered the room.

"Sister."

Su Li leaned against the headboard, smiling. "Little Nian, why are you here?"

"Sister, I heard you were almost hit by an arrow just now. I was worried, so I came to check on you." Liang Chengnian stepped forward, taking her hand, his voice laced with deep unease.

Su Li gently ruffled his hair. "Sister is perfectly fine, Little Nian, no need to worry."

Liang Chengnian pulled a stool over and sat beside her.

"Sister, go to sleep. I'll watch over you."

"Go play, won't you? Sister brought back a little girl; could you help Sister look after her?" Su Li said.

Liang Chengnian's expression darkened. "Sister, I'm not a child anymore."

Su Li looked at him. Despite his tender, childish face, there was not a shred of innocence in his eyes.

Su Li felt a pang of heartache.

If Little Nian truly was the young emperor of Nanjiang, what he endured was no better than what she had faced in her previous life.

She had heard that the former emperor and empress of Nanjiang passed away when he was very young.

A child, only a few years old, was then pushed onto that throne, with the imperial court controlled by his Fourth Imperial Uncle.

As he grew older day by day, Liang Shao didn't even bother to keep up appearances anymore.

"Little Nian, Sister sees that your words and actions aren't like those of an ordinary child. How did you end up in the hands of slave traders?"

Liang Chengnian's expression darkened. "Sister, if Little Nian wasn't how he is now, would Sister still be kind to Little Nian?"

Su Li asked, "Not how you are now?"

"I mean, what if I were a Nanjiang person, and Nanjiang massacred Shuiyong City..."

Su Li interrupted him, saying earnestly, "The people of Shuiyong City are indeed innocent, but the people of Nanjiang are equally innocent. The ones who deserve to die are those who gave the orders and those who wielded blades against the common folk. Are you one of those people?"

Liang Chengnian quickly shook his head. "I'm not!"

Su Li smiled. "That's right then."

Liang Chengnian breathed a sigh of relief, seeming much more relaxed.

"Sister, my parents passed away when I was very young. As I grew older, I gradually learned the truth about their deaths: they were murdered by the uncle I had cherished since childhood. To seize my family's fortune, that demon simply went all out, wanting to cut off the roots entirely. Fortunately, a loyal servant risked his life to protect me, and that's how I escaped."

He spoke calmly, but Su Li's heart was greatly shaken.

The former Emperor and Empress of Nanjiang were murdered by Liang Shao?!

Su Li clasped Liang Chengnian's hand and asked, "Then, do you want revenge?"

"Yes! I dream of it! But my power is too weak; I can't even protect myself."

Su Li asked, "Do you have any evidence of your parents' murder in your hands?"

Liang Chengnian shook his head, and Su Li sighed.

Suddenly, Liang Chengnian's eyes lit up. "However, I know one person who was involved in this matter who is still alive: Wang Sui!"

Su Li was startled. "Wang Sui?"

Then Liang Chengnian's eyes dimmed. "But Wang Sui is that demon's man; he won't possibly testify against him."

Su Li smiled faintly. This child had inadvertently revealed his identity.

Wang Sui, Nanjiang's Ever-Victorious General, held significant military power and was a trusted confidant of Liang Shao.

Su Li comforted him, "It's alright. We'll take our time. Sister will help you."

Liang Chengnian's eyes brightened, and he looked up at Su Li.

"Sister, besides my parents, you're the kindest person to Little Nian."

"You called me 'Sister,' and that 'Sister' won't be called in vain," Su Li said with a smile.

Jun Mo led his men to the city wall, seeing that battle had already been joined below.

He immediately led the Mo Guards, riding out of the city gates. Though their numbers were few, their deterrent force was considerable.

Like an arrow loosed from a bowstring, they charged straight for the enemy's heart. Where their vanguard pointed, they were invincible.

Dressed in silver-white battle robes, Jun Mo used his halberd as a brush and blood as ink, painting a magnificent scroll.

Liang Xuanting, observing the battle from afar, immediately shouted, "Jun Mo!" the moment he saw Jun Mo appear.

After shouting, he spurred his horse forward and charged.

"Little Ting!" Liang Wei was greatly alarmed.

Liang Xuanting's martial arts couldn't even defeat Jun Hui, let alone Jun Mo!

"Jun Mo! Today, I will surely take your head!" Liang Xuanting roared.

Jun Mo let out a cold laugh. "If you have the skill, come and take it."

This nonchalant attitude instantly enraged Liang Xuanting further, and he immediately charged.

Liang Wei also rushed forward and joined the fray.

Jun Mo, with practiced ease, fought against two.

The Nanjiang soldiers didn't realize that the Tianqi soldiers were continuously forcing them back.

The center of the battlefield, which was beneath Lan'an City, gradually shifted towards Shuiyong City.

Suddenly, a horn blast from Lan'an City's wall reverberated through the sky.

Tianqi soldiers rapidly retreated.

Jun Mo looked at Liang Wei and his nephew, saying, "If you have the guts, pursue!" With that, he turned his horse around and withdrew.

Liang Xuanting spurred his horse to give chase but was blocked by Liang Wei.

"Little Ting, this is clearly a trap! Haven't you learned your lesson after so many times?!"

Liang Xuanting stared at Jun Mo's retreating figure, all reason lost.

He rushed past Liang Wei and pursued Jun Mo.

Liang Wei commanded the main army, "Hold your position!"

After saying this, he and Wang Sui spurred their horses, chasing after Liang Xuanting.

Liang Xuanting pursued them to just outside Lan'an City's wall, not daring to approach further. He could only watch Jun Mo on the city wall.

Jun Mo, from his vantage point, looked in the direction of Shuiyong City and suddenly curved his lips into a smile.

That smile again!!

The last time was when Tianqian Chasm buried tens of thousands of his troops!

Liang Xuanting felt a deep unease.

Suddenly, a tremendous roar echoed from the direction of Shuiyong City.

"Boom! Rumble!"

He was no stranger to that sound! It was precisely the sound from when his grain supplies were blown up!

Liang Xuanting, along with Wang Sui and Liang Wei who had just arrived, all had their expressions change drastically.
