Chapter 13 - A System, and the birth of the Spider!

After the incident where Mystique infiltrated the X-Mansion, Tavor was brought to the infirmary, where he spent months lying in a coma as his body naturally recovered from the many external and internal wounds he received that day.

Throughout his coma, Jean Grey, Ororo Munroe, and Scott Summers visited often, while others, including Logan, Kitty Pryde, Piotr Rasputin, and Professor Xavier, visited more sporadically to check on his recovery.

Professor Xavier occasionally used his telepathy to scan the surface thoughts and usually left with a smile as Tavor seemed to be consistently dreaming of monstrously large quantities of food, causing the professor to leave with a smile on his face and quite the appetite afterwards.

Unbeknownst to Xavier, who refused to delve deeper into a person's mind without consent, he was unable to hear the strange voice emanating from within the furthest depths of young Tavor's mind.

[Power level 40 achieved, Infinite Potential System activated, fusing system with host's soul!]

Tavor's eyes moved under their lids as his soul underwent the fusion; a faint pale white energy began to envelope his sleeping form.

[Soul Fusion achieved; introductory gift dispensed!]

[Ding... Hyperbolic Mind space gained!]

Tavor remained at rest well past his third birthday, his body steadily losing muscle from the long stretch without exercise.

Yet Jean, with her maternal warmth, kept visiting him, until one day he awoke to find her asleep beside him, her head resting on the edge of his infirmary bed, clearly having stayed by his side for quite some time.

"M... Momma Jean?"

His voice was raspy and dry from disuse, but despite this, Jean still snapped up upon hearing him, her eyes sparkling with the kind of love that only a mother could have, before she launched towards Tavor and wrapped him in her arms.

She was unable to stifle a sob as she continued to hold her boy, her tears staining his hospital gown with crystalline droplets.

Tavor closed his eyes and let himself enjoy the maternal affection, his heart stirring as he heard Jean sob with a potent mixture of sadness and happiness.

They continued to embrace for nearly half an hour before Jean pulled back and wiped her teary eyes with a slender finger.

"Are you hungry? What am I saying? Of course you are; just look at how skinny you have become!" She said, gesturing towards Tavor's frail and thin frame.

Tavor's head shot up at the mention of food, the hair on his tail standing on end in his excitement, making it appear fluffier than usual.

GRUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!

His stomach let loose a roar that nearly frightened Jean.

Tavor scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. "Yeah, I'm starving; it feels like I could eat a whole cow, no, two whole cows, hehehehe!"

After finding out that none of Tavor's old clothes fit him anymore, Jean decided to let him wear the strange black bodysuit that he wore under his armor.

At first, she believed it wouldn't fit him because of his recent growth, but to her surprise, the suit appeared to adjust perfectly to his larger size.

After helping him get used to walking again for half an hour, they walked hand in hand out of the infirmary.

Initially his steps were shaky, but due to his Saiyan biology, he adapted quickly and soon they proceeded at a brisk pace.

After several minutes of walking, they arrived at the cafeteria where Tavor had battled Mystique; the broken tables, the cracks in the walls, and the blood stains all removed since he had last been here.

The sight of the place where he had experienced his first true battle caused Tavor to clench his fist so hard his knuckles cracked.

Kitty Pryde, who was halfway through her meal, saw Tavor and immediately stood up from her seat with an excited, breathless expression.

She walked straight through the table, her body phasing through it completely, and rushed up to Tavor and gave him a hug.

"Oh my god, Tavor, I'm so glad that you are awake. It's been so dull without you here!" Her arms tightened around him to the point that Tavor could feel the young girl's heartbeat against his own.

Tavor's face turned a bright red, the sight causing more than a few people, including Jean Grey, to stifle a warm chuckle at the sight.

Jean and Kitty pulled Tavor by his hands towards the table she had just left, and together they ate to their hearts' content.

Elsewhere in New York, Peter Parker was waking up on the floor, his mind a fog after leaving the Columbia University Genetics Laboratory.

He stood from the floor, his eyes focusing on the slightly swollen bite mark on his hand.

It was at that moment he realized he was not wearing his glasses, yet his vision remained remarkably clear. In fact, it possessed a sharpness unlike anything he had ever experienced, allowing him to discern the fine hairs on his hand, details he would normally be unable to perceive.

He realized that he would soon be late for the school bus and rushed to find a somewhat clean set of clothes, but when he crossed the body-length mirror in the corner, he froze for a moment before backing up to look at his own reflection.

Unlike his previously frail and thin frame, his body was now packed with dense muscles; he flexed his upper body and was in absolute shock at how strong he both looked and felt.

After pulling himself away from his reflection, he began to throw on his pants and shirt when he heard the horn of the school bus outside.

"Oh damn..." He rushed to throw on a pair of socks and his shoes before grabbing his mostly tattered backpack and rushing out of his room.

Aunt May sat at the table when she heard Peter thundering down the stairs. "Peter, you missed breakfast, so I made you an extra-large lunch!" she said, handing him a brown bag with his name on it as he rushed by.

"Thanks, Aunt May!" He said before rushing out the front door.

Unfortunately for Peter, the bus driver lacked patience, and by the time he left the townhouse, the bus was already about to turn away to another street entirely.

Panic filled Peter's face, and he began sprinting in an attempt to catch the bus.

Surprisingly, after a short time, he managed to catch up to the bus as it stopped to pick up another person, but unfortunately, Peter was not paying attention and was struck by the bus's stop sign, knocking him flat on his back.

The driver either did not notice or did not care and proceeded to head towards the school, leaving Peter alone on the ground.

Peter stood back up, holding the spot on his head that was struck, but noticed that not only was there no swelling, but there was no pain either.

"Huh... that's weird, oh well, I've got to move or imma be late!" Peter ran towards the direction of the school, and after fifteen minutes, he arrived.

He pushed open the double doors leading inside the school and walked into the packed halls.

Peter navigated through the dense crowd of teenagers before reaching his locker; in his haste to open it, he applied more force than intended, inadvertently detaching the lever.

"Must have needed repairs; God, this school is cheap!" He shook his head in exasperation and began to gather his things for his first class before closing the locker once more.

However, suddenly Peter felt something strange; he felt like his senses expanded to encompass his entire surroundings before focusing on an incoming projectile: a wad of spit-drenched paper was heading directly towards the back of his head.

Peter leaned his head to the left, causing the wad of spit to miss and land with a dull thud onto his locker door.

Turning around to see who had done the deed, he saw one of Flash Thomson's cronies holding a straw and a derisive smirk on his face.

"What, Parker? Got something to say?" The crony was about to continue, but he noticed the principal and several teachers approaching and lost his nerve, turning back to talking to his particular group of friends.

Hours passed uneventfully after that, and finally it was lunchtime.

Peter sat alone at his table, munching on strips of bacon that Aunt May had saved for him absentmindedly, when he caught the scent of flowery perfume and looked up to see Mary Jane, the red rose of Midtown High School.

She was walking with a tray of food, a smile on her face that seemed to light up the otherwise dreary cafeteria, but suddenly her foot slipped on a wet patch of linoleum, and she was about to fall, her tray of food launching into the air.

Peter's heightened senses slowed the scene to a crawl, allowing him to react with remarkable speed and agility.

In a swift motion, he rushed forward and secured both Mary Jane and her tray of food, managing to catch every morsel before it could fall.

Mary Jane looked up and regarded him with a subtly impressed glint in her striking green eyes.

Unfortunately for Peter, this caught the attention of the school's biggest bully, who also happened to be the school football star.

Flash glared with ferociousness towards Peter, thinking of a way to embarrass him later before turning towards Mary Jane, who sat down next to him.

Peter sat down at his table and closed his hands, trying to understand where the sudden surge of strength and agility was coming from.

It was then that his fingers pressed on a certain place on the bottom of his palm.

SPRAT!

A white spray of some kind of webbing shot out of his wrist and landed on his empty bag of lunch.

Luckily for Peter, no one was paying attention, and he was able to remove the webbing before it was spotted.

Peter pressed the spot again, and another web shot out and collected on an unattended tray of food across from him.

"OH CRAP!"

He attempted to pull the webbing free, but the effort caused the tray to launch towards him.

Peter tilted in his seat and narrowly avoided the tray, but the tray continued its trajectory and landed on Flash Thomson, covering him in food and igniting his fury for whoever was responsible.

Peter stood from his seat and rushed to the exit, unaware in his hurried state that the food tray was following along with him, catching Flash Thomson's attention.

"Peter?" He said with a low, confused voice before following.

A minute later, Peter arrived back at his locker and was struggling to open it due to the broken lever.

Suddenly, he experienced the world slowing to a crawl, his senses sharpening and expanding until the wingbeats of a nearby fly seemed suspended in midair. Almost as quickly, his focus shifted, zeroing in on an incoming fist paired with a ferocious roar.

Peter tilted his head to the left, and Flash's fist smashed into the locker, bending the door inwards.

"I don't want to fight you, Flash!" Peter attempted to de-escalate.

Flash scoffed. "I wouldn't want to fight me either!" He raised his hands and unleashed a flurry of blows that would have overwhelmed Peter on any previous day.

However, today Peter not only evaded each strike but also intercepted Flash's third punch, catching him firmly by the wrist. With a strength that startled both Flash and the onlookers, Peter pulled his opponent's hand aside and formed a determined fist of his own.

POW!

Peter's fist crashed into Flash's abdomen, sending him flying backwards until he crashed into the encircling crowd of people

Flash's crony and Mary Jane knelt next to Flash, and the crony spoke. "Jesus Parker, you are a freak!"

Mary Jane looked towards Flash, then Peter, a strange look in her eyes.

Peter grabbed his stuff and rushed out of the encirclement, eager to leave school early and head home.
