The ones occupying Heartland City compound were a group of light-type Void Realm creatures—Luminari. They weren't like the Flamekin, who burned humans on a whim, but that didn't make them "good."
They just had a different kind of cruelty.
They saw themselves as inherently superior. Whenever a battle came, they forced the humans inside the compound to go first—to act as cannon fodder—so the Luminari could probe the enemy's strength and abilities with zero risk.
Because of that, Heartland City's death rate was far higher than any other compound's.
Heartland City had once been the most populated compound. Now, aside from Fallen Star City, it had become the smallest—its population had been slashed from over five million to a little over two million.
