The door to Albert's office came into view. The click on the door sounded in the microphone.
"I'm in," Joshua said.
"You know what to do," Avery said.
She wiped her hands on her jeans.
They were finally doing it.
Days of planning, and now they were in his office.
Joshua sat in front of Albert's computer and opened the V.I.R.U.S.
"Almost done," Joshua muttered as he transferred the last file to Avery's laptop.
A robotic female voice suddenly echoed through the system.
"ALERT. INTRUDER DETECTED. ALERT. INTRUDER DETECTED."
Joshua jolted upright.
Red lights flooded the building.
"Shit."
He sent the remaining file immediately and shut his laptop before rushing out of the room.
The alarm continued to blare through the hallways as guards stormed the building, searching for an intruder.
"Joshua, be careful," Avery warned through the microphone.
For the first time that night, fear crawled into his chest.
Joshua lowered his head and walked briskly through the corridor, avoiding eye contact with everyone around him.
Avery rested a hand on her baby bump as her heart pounded violently against her chest.
"Hey! Wait!"
Joshua froze for half a second before quickening his pace.
Footsteps followed behind him.
His breathing turned uneven as he pushed through the back exit of the building.
A hand suddenly grabbed his shoulder.
Joshua nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Hey, man. You forgot your card."
The security card was held out toward him.
Joshua stared at it for a second before snatching it quickly.
"T-thanks"
