Rewriting because of continuity issues and giving a character too many strengths I didn't properly flesh out elements I wanted to explore so I will be doing that.
Heres the prologue of the first chapter.
Note: this is going to be a simalar story but I've changed things such as elements/powers.
So if you are expecting the same story I'm sorry for that.
Prologue sneak peak:
Modern-day Shibuya. A train station.
"Haah…"
A young boy raised his arms, stretching lazily as his mouth hung open in a yawn.
Clank.
Chooo.
The hiss of steam briefly drowned out the noise of the station, carrying with it the scent of burning charcoal.
"Are you also waiting for Train 5…?"
The young boy remained expressionless; he wore an indifferent expression.
The man raised his voice slightly.
"Train 5 is the one going to Nagasaki, right…?"
The man, Rasho, expected an answer. Instead, the young boy nodded.
Without saying a word, the boy pulled a notebook from his pocket and held a pencil in his right hand.
Click…
He began to write. The young boy wrote quickly.
Creak!!
His pencil scratched against the paper.
"Mhm, yeah."
"You know, recently I heard that the trains around here have been acting strange lately, something about delays and such. My wife said she saw some… odd things near the tracks last night…"
The young boy paused, his pencil lifting slightly. His head turned.
Odd things…?
He glanced up at the man; Rasho was middle-aged, with bags under his eyes, like he hadn't slept in days. He wore a rumpled suit with a crumpled tie near his neck; Rasho was the type of man you'd find anywhere someone was on the way to work.
Chooo… choo…!!!
The train rattled along the tracks.
"You know… I've been taking this train for twenty years, and it just never gets old. The view, well, except for the narrow stretch at the end; it gives me the creeps every time."
The young boy's expression stayed flat. His gaze remained fixated on the window that was in front of him as he awaited the doors to open.
A low whistle echoed throughout the station.
Creak!!!
The train rails trembled underneath the weight of the train.
Train 5 slowly rolled toward the platform, gradually slowing down. Its metal body ground against the rails. Finally, it stopped.
Hiss-!!!
Steam came out of the front of the train. A white puff of smoke emerged from the front.
Passengers stepped forward, boarding one after another.
Rasho scratched the back of his head while glancing at the silent boy. He then raised his voice with curiosity.
"Are you getting on…?"
Thud…
The boy closed his notebook as soon as he heard the older gentleman's words. The young boy nodded his head as he began to move toward the train to get on board.
"Hello everyone, this is the train dispatcher of Train 5. We will be heading to Nagasaki train station; we will begin our departure in 10 minutes. The doors will be closing in 5 minutes."
"Now boarding, Train 5, departing for Nagasaki…"
The young boy found a seat by the window, his notebook resting against his knee. Rasho sat a few rows down, still glancing back every so often.
"Where are his parents…?" Rasho muttered under his breath, more to himself than to anyone else.
He glanced at the boy; the kid sat there right next to the window, staring outside, just viewing the scenery. He didn't have any type of bag next to him, not even under his feet. There wasn't even anyone next to him; the only thing he could see was that the kid had a notebook that was placed in the seat next to him.
Chooo…
Choo…!!!
The train lurched forward; steel met steel as the rails bore the weight of the train, wheels grinding against the rails as it pulled away from the platform. The speed of the train accelerated as it began to move, steam trailing from behind it into the evening sky.
Minutes passed. The scenery outside was a blur of green as they got outside of the inner city. Some skyscraper buildings they passed were still in view.
Creak!!
The young boy kept writing; his pencil scratched against the cover of the notebook.
Ding dong..!!
"Attention passengers, this is your train dispatcher of Train 5. I am speaking to you due to some unfortunate coincidence. There is an error with our fuel amount, so we will be making an unscheduled stop to refuel. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."
"Error in the fuel amount?"
"How long will the stop be? I have work in half an hour; I can't be late!"
Murmurs broke out in the cabin. Some passengers got up to complain, while others just kept reading, unbothered.
His head tilted toward the window; he began watching as the tracks ahead curved.
The train began to slow.
In front of them stood a massive, ancient-looking gate. Its surface was engraved with weird markings that seemed to be some sort of writing.
"Whoa… Would you look at that? Is that writing some form of Greek?"
Rasho, the older gentleman, couldn't help but speak out loud, his eyes almost shining as he stared at the massive gate.
The train crept forward, inch by inch, until it was extremely close to the gate.
Suddenly, warmth entered him, like he was being carried by his mother or was being nursed at the hospital. Was he in a shower?
Suddenly…
He tried to breathe.
Nothing…
Gack…!!!
Cough….!!!! Cough!!!!
His hands shot up to his throat; his fingers clawed at his own skin. He couldn't help but have hope, hope that would help.
This sensation was like being submerged in water.
Gack…!!!
Cough….!!!! Cough!!!!
His hands raised upwards, clawing at his own throat, desperate for air. His vision darkened like a swarm of black; everything became blurry to him.
"This is the train dispatcher of Train 5. We will be passing through the gate… now."
Cough…!
Cough…!
Others started to cough too. Throughout the cabin, the only sound was coughing.
Swish…
A mist of white surrounded them. The cabin they were once in was no longer visible to them.
Clunk…!!!
The sound of metal hitting something very blunt could be heard.
Bang…!!!
"Am I dead?"
He wasn't near anything; there was only one thing he could perceive: darkness. Utter pitch-black darkness. But it was comforting.
This darkness had a warmth to it, as if I was sitting in front of a fireplace.
It reminded me of when I was with my mother, her gentle touch, even though the memory wasn't for long.
The gentle touch of a mother who cared for her crippled son.
Was I a nuisance to her? Hopefully, I wasn't too bad. I hope she can live a better life without me.
Creak…!!
A light. A small crevasse of light fluttered in this darkness, like a candle being illuminated in the dark of night.
Was it leading me somewhere…?
Why was a sudden light flickering in and out?
Swish…!
The sound of leaves could be heard near my ear.
Wait, am I not dead…?
Then where am I?
A voice echoed out next to him, like a whisper in his ear.
"Master Zerif, are you sure about this? Sending the dragons to the future inside of the dragon slayers…?"
"Yes, it will be long, but it must happen," the man spoke with a saddened voice as his eyes traced over an object.
His fingers traced over a circular object with a pointed edge at the top.
"Ek…?"
His finger caught the edge of the tip.
Drip…!!
A small bit of blood dropped onto the object.
"This, I will also send it…" He wore an indifferent expression as he spoke.
The woman, on the other hand, began to open her mouth wide in surprise.
"Wahh…. But that's a dragon egg. What if it never hatches?"
Zerif's eyes did not change. He stared at the dragon egg with eyes of indifference.
"Are you ready now?"
"Yes, I'm ready. The gate will open now."
Her golden hair fluttered in the wind as the gate, the size of a three-story building, started to open.
The gate of the extremely large door was starting to open.
Creak…!!!
A large sound was made, as if the door hadn't been opened in a while and was scraping on the floor it was on. The gates were extremely large, comparable to the size of a war boat. There were symbols on it resembling Greek writing, even though it wasn't Greek.
"Master Zerif… we should continue…"
…
Who was speaking…?
Is it Mother…?
