Chapter 71 - Noontime Lunch Robbery

Lunch time.

I should be excited, but I'm not. First off, my mind is mush from the long and tedious lecture Mr. Moriyami gave about English grammar. Surely, he himself is aware of how mind-numbing his class is. The least he could do is dumb it down a bit. Or maybe not have a voice that makes me want to put my head down for a nap.

Second, I'm not that excited about my tuna mayo sandwich. I knew I should have gotten that sparkling yogurt soda to spice things up a bit. Damn those girls from the store earlier. I wish them a life of suffering.

Third, and I probably should have started with this, I can't really do anything right now. At least, not while Asamura is blabbing my ear off.

"Seriously, who does that? You promised you'd go straight to the drama club after you were done with Mr. Hirashi!"

"I didn't promise anything. Mr. Hirashi did all of the talking. I didn't even say a single word, remember?"

"Oh, I guess you're right. Still–!"

"And it wasn't even my fault that I couldn't make it. By the time the session was over, the bell was already ringing. If you want someone to blame, go punch Mr. Hirashi right in the solar plexus. Go, do it."

"As if I could do that to him!"

Asamura takes a vacant chair and drags it to sit beside me. Hey, who gave you permission to violate my territory? I have so few safe spaces in this school, so why are you intent on invading each and every one of them?

"But I guess it wasn't entirely your fault, so I'll give you a pass this time."

"None of it was my fault, but sure."

"Hey, I'm giving you an out here. So just be thankful!"

"Riiiight. Thanks so much, oh kind and noble Asamura."

"You are very welcome, lowly-yama!"

She says as she takes a bite right out of my tuna mayo sandwich. So it's not enough for you to insult me, but you also have to steal from me? I'd sue if only there were enough legal grounds to do so.

"Aren't you supposed to be having lunch with Kurebayashi or something?"

"Nah, she said she'll be busy with the drama club request."

"So go help her. And stop eating my sandwich will you?"

"I should be telling YOU that! Aren't you a volunteer club member? You should be racing to her side to help her!"

"I don't even know what the request is about."

"Gee, I wonder why you don't know?"

She sarcastically asks as she downs the last bite of my sandwich.

"The drama club is asking for some help making the props they need for their theatre play. Apparently, they still aren't done with a lot of the props they'll need."

"Sounds like a them problem."

"More like a you problem now, since Reina-chan accepted their request."

Of course she did. Looks like I'm in for another grueling week of manual labor. I just hope it's more like paper mache and not complicated prop works. I was about to ask Asamura why she's not helping Kurebayashi now, but remembered she's not even a club member. I forgot about that fact. I guess she's more like a moral support mascot in that regard.

"... I should go"

"Oh, you're going to go help Reina-chan out now?"

"No, I'm going to get lunch. Since, you know, you ate all of it."

"Ahhh my bad. I'll pay you back for it! Promise!"

She says sheepishly. Well, not like I was even looking forward to that sandwich in the first place. Guess I'll head to the cafeteria and get something.
