Four rank 5 elders overlooked a tide of gu masters and beasts surround Blue Saint Fog Camp, their intentions of exiling Spirit Affinity House striking a gloomy sensation under the pitch-black sky with moonlight showering down on everyone through those eerie orbs floating in great numbers.
The darkness and foliage concealed even more beasts. Rough snarls and hungry growls from every direction rumbled an advent of a prehistoric beast prowling and eying the brightly glowing camp which stuck out like a sore thumb in this pitch-black world.
Shu Zhe noticed these elders. There was one familiar face among them, Wind Cloud Manor's Wind Sickle Hum Dum.
All the disciples were prepared to face this battle. Many were excited after the initial shock.
"Look! I already counted nearly a hundred thousand beasts! Hehe… too exciting! It's rare for us to battle wild beasts."
"Hmph! Do they think it is easy to wear us down? This is our headquarters, protected and modified over hundreds of years. But they are willing to lose their beasts. Haha! This battle might be the most entertaining event of my life!"
It wasn't the first time that Spirit Affinity House was exiled. In fact, all ten sects experienced this already. Spirit Affinity House returned to Reincarnation Battlefield nearly eight hundred years ago.
"I'm going to kill ten thousand beasts!"
"Peh! Weakling! I will kill them all!"
"Let's give our brothers and sisters from the other four disciples a battle of their lifetime, too! Hahahaha!"
Ju Lin looked around, shocked by the atmosphere. Even when facing such odds, her seniors looked confident and eager. A strange warmth grew and filled the camp surrounded and defended by several layers of barriers. Unlike her seniors, Ju Lin still wasn't affected by the environment even after several deaths. It was to be expected. She was merely a rank 2 gu master, the only one in the camp.
But she was infected by everyone's smile and warmth. She couldn't help but grin like them, raising her voice and shouting her heart out.
"I'll gouge out the eyes of the ugly bastard who killed me the last time!"
The surrounding female disciples laughed at her words, encouraging the girl. "Good, good! Not just the eyes, go for the testicles! The pain haunts them even after death!"
There was even a rank 3 ordinary disciple who killed Ju Lin before due to a minor disagreement, patting the girl's back and smiling broadly.
"I didn't teach you a lesson in vain. Outstanding. You have a future, after all!" She said as the corner of Ju Lin's lips twitched.
If Spirit Affinity House's disciples were like this then nothing more needed to be said about the disciples surrounding the camp. They might be even more restless. To exile a competitor out meant great merit!
The amount of contribution points they stood to earn could raise their strength by at least three times if they survived and didn't have to spend more to regain their previous set.
Shu Zhe took in everything. Despite being a wisdom path gu master, she was caught off-guard. After all, she was incapable of predicting a gu immortal's movements.
They were all waiting.
The four sects were waiting for their supreme elders' instructions. Meanwhile, Spirit Affinity House also waited patiently, unwilling to make the first move and spark the flames of conflict that would soon devour them whole. Their excitement did not blind them to certain facts. It was likely that Spirit Affinity House would cease to operate within
The pressure slowly accumulated, rising like a dragon awakening from its slumber. Despite wild expectations and excitement for the battle, the disciples felt a sharp edge pressed against the nape of their necks.
The change was quick and silent but noticeable.
The expressions of the four leading elders changed. They each surrounded Blue Saint Fog camp from four directions.
At once beast tides of lions, tigers, serpents, and bears tore through the surroundings. The ground shook and rumbled, their roars shaking the sky and making the previously boastful and eager disciples momentarily shaken at their very numbers!
100,000…
200,000…
500,000…
800,000…
1,200,000…
One million and six hundred thousand beasts!
They all came in different colors and sizes—hissing, growling, screeching, and roaring. Some were as massive as elephants and some snakes with the most lethal toxins were the size of an index finger, hiding on another creature's body. There were several hill-sized bears and thousands of mutated beasts!
Hundred-Beast Kings.
Thousand-Beast Kings.
Myriad-Beast Kings.
And Beast Emperors!
Some mutated beasts took to the pitch-black darkness, the eerie grey-white orbs illuminating them in a haunting light.
This beast tide lacked nothing.
'This alone can eradicate several large sects.'
Shu Zhe thought calmly, a rare intent for battle and surpassing the odd sparking a fierce glow in her blue eyes. The four super sects were giving their all. It would be a pity not to return the favor.
'All my earlier preparation would be useless anyway if I die here.'
She realized, the corner of her robes swaying as wispy brown smoke flew out of her sleeves. The range of this smoke was massive as the guarding and ready disciples let out startled cries. The smoke surpassed the range of the camp and the barrier, growing endlessly!
'Hmph, she made her move.' Hum Dum saw everything coldly, not moving despite Shu Zhe's move. The beasts were there to act as vanguards and exhaust Spirit Affinity House. Blue Saint Fog Camp was special and more fortified over the years by previous legacy disciples. It was one of the reasons why the surrounding sects stopped pressuring Spirit Affinity House after isolating them in this one camp. They were also afraid of the retaliation after cornering the enemy too much.
However, they invested many resources this time, even bringing out their valuable enslavement path experts to use the beasts as one-time use fodder to weaken Spirit Affinity House's main camp.
These four elders did not need to make a move yet.
They were also given previous orders.
Currently, the four elders protected specific disciples used by the supreme elders to maintain this formation. Their protection was critical for the four-sect alliance's success!
'Hmm?'
Hum Dum and others soon felt shocked as the use of Shu Zhe's gu worm did not… stop.
'Is she already healed?' His gaze darkened. Shu Zhe might be an elder, but she was also a former sect leader. Her foundation and ability far surpassed the four elders. Her trump cards were also unknown.
'Still. Isn't this too much?'
Hum Dum was secretly astounded as the brown smoke covered nearly half the beasts! It far surpassed an ordinary rank 5 gu master's range. Either Shu Zhe was using a killer move or she had endless essence.
But how could the latter be possible?
"Ah! What is happening?"
"This is…"
"Ah! Look at the beasts! They've gone berserk!"
"They have gone mad. They are attacking each other!"
The brown smoke was thin and light, like a dreamy curtain allowing others to witness how every beast within the affected region turned on each other, devouring and attacking each other as the terrifying stampede was reduced to a stumbling failure with one move.
Rank 3 gu masters were the pillars for any organization, often regarded as elders.
Rank 4 gu masters stepped into the ranks of higher-ups, becoming a core to an organization's preservation and longevity.
Lastly, Rank 5 gu masters stood at the peak of mortal realm. When armed with appropriate gu worms, their moves could leave the mortals in awe and fear. Their actions were conspicuous and their might unquestionable.
Shu Zhe's first strike alone left one of the enemies' cornerstones in shambles.
The enslavement path experts did not enter the battle with their beasts. The beasts were wild animals. How would they continue attacking without these enslavement path gu masters? So, their protection was also necessary. Beads of sweat rolled down their foreheads as they tried to control the beasts. However, these enslavement path experts made a few shocking discoveries.
"What? This issue is spreading?" Hum Dum instantly investigated, noticing the tigers from his sect's enslavement path expert revealing a strange behavior.
The enslavement path experts didn't let all their beasts charge within the smoke fearlessly. The essence of enslavement path was to beat quality with quantity. Instead, they wanted to inspect the smoke and understand its purpose, stopping their charge and observing the initially infected beasts. To their surprise, these affected beasts snapped out of the control of their respective beast kings. When they charged out of the smoke, their fur and scales carried a thin layer of brown mist that spread to every attacked beast!
This mania was still spreading!
Hum Dum felt stumped. He had never heard of such a gu worm. Of course, it could also be a killer move. Shu Zhe must have plenty of trump cards. But doesn't it also mean she spent a lot of her primeval essence on this one move?
As a rank 5 peak stage gu master, Shu Zhe couldn't rely on primeval stones to quickly recover her primeval essence during urgent situations. It didn't make sense for Shu Zhe to make such a move without even relying on supporting formations and killer moves left for the camp.
"Retrieve all your beasts. Take out all the affected beasts using long-ranged attacks."
Hum Dum decisively cut his losses short, unwilling to see the situation spread and let the battle devolve to Shu Zhe's whims and tune.
<<<>>>
"A very perceptive and ambitious junior." Shang Mi Zhu observed. He might not know Shu Zhe's circumstances, but he instantly understood the reasons behind her current foundation. "She was preparing to undergo her breakthrough. No wonder she possesses this many Beggar Moth Gu Worms."
Beggar Moth Gu Worm stored primeval essence.
After her injuries, Shu Zhe maintained a large number of this gu worm. It was also part of her foundation in preparation to advance as a gu immortal. Even after consorting with Bai Shou, Shu Zhe hadn't thought of depending entirely on the latter. To her knowledge, successfully becoming a gu immortal was also a way to heal her injuries. She began preparing for it a long time ago. But this process was truly too dangerous, making it Shu Zhe's last resort.
"But what gu worm did she use with Self-Destructive Heart Gu?"
Rank 5 Self-Destructive Heart Gu created a rebellious emotion in the target. It was an extinct wisdom path gu used to deal with less intelligent creatures, like beasts and less intelligent gems among the variant humans, forcing them to attack other members of their race with extreme rage and annihilating their own kind. What was extinct in mortal market wasn't the same for gu immortals.
Shu Zhe also paired it with the Thoughtful Mist and another strange gu worm. The addition of this strange gu worm allowed the effects of Self-Destructive Heart Gu and Thoughtful Mist Gu to spread and increase even after the beasts rushed out!
Well-aware of the gu worms like Amplify Effect and Multiply Gu Worms, Shang Mi Zhu sensed this unknown gu worm was of the same kind. However, he was without a body and did not spend too much time considering the origins of this unnamed gu worm. The more effort he spent doing so meant weakening this distant and unsupported emotion.
If Shang Mi Zhu could notice all this, so did the other gu immortals observing the mortal battle.
"How long can this offense last?" Another gu immortal sneered. "Whatever this strange mortal gu worm she used is, it consumes a lot of primeval essence."
"Still, I wonder if Fairy Bai La is willing to shed more light on this intriguing gu worm." A scholarly looking gu immortal smiled softly, gazing at Bai La warmly. The latter's expression darkened and she hissed loudly.
"I already rejected you once and married the man you despised because your face enraged me, Softy He! Did you still not learn your lesson?" She clenched her fist, growling.
"Speak less nonsense, Shitty Bai!" Softy He's demeanor shifted from his previous gentle and noble conduct to ruthless disposition. "I was giving you a chance to save face. Do you think I won't be able to find out the truth about this gu worm if I wanted to? Hehe… being so defensive about a mortal gu worm? Interesting."
Others watched their interactions, noticing how He Bang tried baiting Bai La. The latter snorted derisively and waved her hand.
"Go ahead. Soul search that lass once she's killed. Do you think our sect would be in this state if we could mass refine that gu worm? Look at you, still trying to get a rise out of me. But what more can I expect from you, Softy He? You cowardly ran when your first wife was taken by a more robust demonic gu master. Remember? We were both rank 4 gu masters when you asked for my help because of the gu worm I possessed. Ah, don't you remember?"
Bai La smirked coldly as He Bang's expression twisted with rage.
"Do you want me to shed light on the dark dungeon we found your wife and her ravisher? Maybe some flashes of insight about how eagerly your wife enjoyed—"
"Shut up!" He Bang snapped, pointing at Bai La as she merely laughed.
"Instead of helping your mind-broken wife, you killed her then had the gall to ask for my hand in marriage. Peh."
Bai La spat out a small golden ball from her mouth as He Bang let out a soft hiss, releasing a tiny azure serpent.
He Bang was an enslavement path gu immortal and felt intrigued by the unnamed gu worm's effectiveness with dealing with mortal beast groups. Of course, he wanted to know its secrets.
"Stay vigilant of other gu immortals, Fairy Mi Yao. I will test these gu immortals one at a time except Heavenly Informant. Prepare your method and interfere to protect Disciple Bai Shou once she is found and is about to be killed."
Bai La transmitted to Mi Yao, engaging in a short spar with He Bang before taunting and insulting other gu immortals.
They soon caught up to Bai La's tactic. However, like Bai La, they also had to keep a strong front once challenged.
Mi Yao felt grateful. Between the duo, Bai La indeed had a better foundation and was more suited for this task. At this moment of great crisis, Bai La and Mi Yao temporarily closed the gap between them caused by internal strife to match the opponent's momentum. Unlike Spirit Affinity House's fairies, other gu immortals were still cautious of each other and would not go all out to accidentally let other sect's gu immortal take advantage.
Heavenly Informant observed all this but said nothing.
He watched the battle unfold.
Shu Zhe's methods indeed targeted one of the core aspects of enslavement path. A gu master cannot enslave hundreds and thousands of beasts without deteriorating their soul to the point of becoming a vegetable. Even after strengthening and refining the soul, an enslavement path gu master only enslaved a few beast kings to control the entire beast group. Under Shu Zhe's attacks, all these beasts turned on each other, unaffected and fearless of the authority a beast king usually exuded. This meant the enslavement path gu master could only control their respective beast kings they personally enslaved. There were even a few beast kings rebelling against thousand-beast kings.
It was also the key in dealing with Shu Zhe's schemes.
Once the enslavement path experts noticed this while the other gu masters killed different beasts using long-range methods, they let out their hundred, thousand, and myriad-beast kings to kill all the affected beasts.
'Still too green.' Heavenly Informant thought plainly. He was not a wisdom path expert, but he had great experience and interacted with several wisdom path gu immortals. His killer move also evolved with these interactions, eventually displaying slight ingenuity of wisdom path. He expected Shu Zhe to predict this change and use it.
'They might not have fallen for such a scheme if they were enslavement path masters. Even if unable to see-through Shu Zhe, their instinct to preserve their beast groups might have protected their foundation.'
He sighed internally, feeling a complex and profound understanding wash over him. Wasn't this the main reason why the Ten Ancient Sects invested so many resources into controlling Reincarnation Battlefield? Gu Masters were allowed to make mistakes here.
It was a rare treasure for a gu master—a world of second chances!
As Heavenly Informant expected, Shu Zhe let out a strangled cry. Her body shook and visibly thinned. Her face grew white like a sheet of paper.
Suddenly, the ravenous beast groups quietened down.
The four sects were greatly surprised by this change before feeling ominous.
With a flourish of Shu Zhe's hands, the beasts stopped attacking members of their species and turned to four-sect allied army!
'But where is Gu Yue Lo Jik?'
Based on his ability, Heavenly Informant should have already found Lo Jik's position. However, his usual methods stopped working nearly two years ago after the first time he used Heavenly Informant killer move to understand why he was recruited by Feng Jiu Ge. He realized it might be the gu immortals of Spirit Affinity House protecting Lo Jik. But his guessed didn't matter right now.
Heavenly Informant held the initiative.
He already uncovered a great secret the first time he used the killer move on Lo Jik.
A venerable inheritance!
Spirit Affinity House unexpectedly possessed a venerable inheritance. Even more amazing was how this inheritance remained untouched, forcing the sect to seek disciples with great affinity. Gu Yue Lo Jik happened to be one of these disciples.
How could Heavenly Informant sit still?
He informed this to his first supreme elder before they asked the sect's wisdom path gu immortal to divine many things about Lo Jik.
The more they inspected Lo Jik, strangely so, the more cost they had to bear. Most recently, Heavenly Informant barely kept his core immortal gu worms alive when trying to seek more information about Lo Jik due to the shockingly heavy backlash.
Information and Wisdom Paths were different in the sense that wisdom path gu immortals could predict and divine with enough clues, capable of peering through several secrets, heavenly or otherwise. Meanwhile, information path gu immortals like Heavenly Informant relied on unnoticeable clues left within heaven and earth to seek certain truths. What Lo Jik believed to be impossible was only slightly more inconvenient for gu immortals. They couldn't divine future.
Things became simpler after identifying Gu Yue Lo Jik. Heavenly Informant's ability also let him realize about the hidden conflict between the Shang Clan and Lo Jik.
But there were also some facts he couldn't extract.
Heavenly Informant's abilities paled compared to a Venerable. He was still unable to find out the nature of the inheritance and which Venerable it belonged or how Gu Yue Lo Jik was a suitable candidate for it. With that knowledge, Heavenly Informant could have located another individual like Lo Jik, killed him, and then strike a bargain with Spirit Affinity House without bothering with the other eight sects.
That did not happen.
Instead, the other nine sects collaborated, and their wisdom path great experts still couldn't identify the nature of the inheritance!
It made them cautious of Spirit Affinity House and increased their determination to stop them. Finally, they spent some resources to figure out the possible locations Gu Yue Lo Jik might end up in. They were even prepared to surround Hu Immortal Blessed Land. Fortunately, they didn't have to. Hu Immortal Blessed Land was situated in Tian Ti Mountain, a holy ground in Central Continent. The nine sects would have to invest nearly double the amount to successfully extract Lo Jik from that location.
Luck, however, was on their side. Reincarnation Battlefield was the best location to enact such tasks.
'There he is…'
Heavenly Informant's aged eyes shimmered with calm brilliance. He smiled and glanced at Shang Mi Zhi's emotion.
Mi Yao's and Bai La's expressions also changed as they noticed the shift.
"Don't you think the time is ripe, Sir Shang?" He narrowed his eyes. "You should let go of Wind Cloud Manor's disciple."
Shang Mi Zhu scoffed slightly before adopting a sincere smile.
"Indeed. But Friend Tian should learn from this experience and seek information with more civility next time around."
Plans couldn't keep up with circumstances.
The disciple Heavenly Informant sent to Shang Clan to discover more information was eventually caught once they entered Feng Yu Manor. But there were still results. It set the first contact with Shang Mi Zhu and Heavenly Informant.
That said, Shang Mi Zhu also didn't flinch under Heavenly Informant's pressure. He brought with him Shang Clan's reputation. Faltering before an ancient sect's elder would tarnish their name.
Shang Mi Zhu's emotion slowly descended into the formation. More and more of Shang Mi Zhu's emotions poured out, which floated by Tian Zhenli's side. What remained on the descending figure was a translucent wisp of emotion that soon disappeared after the figure landed besides the surprised Hum Dum.
Meanwhile, the tides of battle changed after Shu Zhe and Spirit Affinity House's disciples made a grim discovery.
<<<>>>
Bai La and Mi Yao transmitted everything to their peers. So, all supreme elders quickly caught onto several things occurring within Reincarnation Battlefield. Other gu immortals above Deep Mirror Valley also transmitted their situation.
Hu Immortal Blessed Land.
Bai Qing was concerned for her mother and husband caught in different locations. But she didn't dare leave Hu Immortal Blessed Land and her daughter alone in these troubled times. Meanwhile, Feng Jin Huang, Qin Juan, and Sun Yao were also capable of accessing the recordings of the battle inside the formation, the only thing Bai Qing chose to share with them.
After all, Bai Shou… Gu Yue Lo Jik greatly assisted in Feng Jin Huang's business. The latter insisted on knowing what was going on until Bai Qing relented.
"How are they reappearing where they died?"
The girls discovered this oddity very quickly after the beast groups turned on the gu masters. A purple light flashed and healed the gu masters where they stood, letting them enter the battle again!
'Not only that, these gu masters didn't self-detonate their gu worms. As such, dying doesn't mean they will lose their gu worms. Instead, healing every time restores their primeval essence and allows them to restart their battle with utmost ferocity. The only defect in this method is their souls will weaken at a great pace until they are all unable to think straight or control gu worms without a backlash.'
Feng Jin Huang had great experience with Reincarnation Battlefield and realized this method's weak point.
To capitalize it, however, required the other party to boast the means of continuously killing these gu masters!
Shu Zhe did not have these methods. The beasts wore thin after a few minutes, their numbers brutally reduced as the enslavement path experts felt a great heartache.
Soon, the four-sects allied gu masters surrounded the ashen Spirit Affinity House's disciples. Their fearlessness towards death did not curb the psychological blow they endured after witnessing the enemies return to health where they died itself!
<<<>>>
*Whoosh*
*Whoosh*
<<<>>>
Weariness oozed from the indifferent Shu Zhe as her heart felt grim. The Blue Saint Fog Camp was surrounded by enemies from four directions. The earlier battle triggered the enemy's blood lust, all of them staring at the brilliantly glowing camp hungrily.
The fierceness of their roars could move earth and shake the sky itself as they all charged. Similarly, all the gu masters inside the camp attacked with their long-range gu worms.
Cruel tides of water, wild thunderstorm, arcs of lightning, brilliant river of flames, glowing green gusts of wind, shadow-like tendrils, volatile projectiles of light, oozing mist-like darkness, flying swords, and more!
These gu masters did not lack anything in offense.
<<<>>>
*Whoosh*
A red shadow pierced through an angry Dear-Horned Falcon, a mutated beast with rank 4 battle strength, without stopping for a single moment!
<<<>>>
*Crack*
The ability of the enemy to revive where they stood was shocking! Despite a wave of corpses left by Spirit Affinity House's attacks, the enemy rose instantly. A few lost their gu sets. After all, some of these attacks directly destroyed everything about a gu master.
Some suffered fatal soul injuries. When they recovered, they were slow and stomped to death by their allies as all charged ferociously, eventually descending into a vegetative state.
Some gu masters reached the barrier and sacrificed themselves.
*Crack*
Hairline cracks began forming on the first layer of the barrier.
"Break!"
A rank 5 elder from Heavenly Lotus Sect let loose a sharp cry. His figure transformed into a hill-sized eagle as he struck the barrier. He was a transformation path gu master. Those following the transformation path could form killer moves based on their preferred transformation.
This eagle transformation was also a killer move, boasting high strength among other rank 5 gu masters from the main continent as it directly shattered the first barrier!
"Charge!"
Others laughed as many Spirit Affinity House's disciples began feeling pressured.
"The second wave."
Shu Zhe commanded calmly.
Instantly, the first line of disciples committed suicide by stabbing their hearts. It was a common tactic when defending one's main camp. Once the first line commits suicide, they would return to full health right inside the camp and recover their gu worms to display maximum efficiency as a second wave of disciple would temporarily replace them.
"What?"
"Oh, no!"
"They can do that?"
Many disciples felt intimidated.
Shu Zhe was also surprised.
The disciples did not revive!
Or rather, they did not revive in the main camp!
'Damn it.'
Shu Zhe frowned, glancing at the dark domain. The pale grey orbs continuously flashed as her heart felt heavier.
'To think they would go this far…'
<<<>>>
*Whoosh*
The red shadow did not attract any attention in this pitch-black darkness. The dim light from the grey orbs momentarily illuminated an outstretched crimson leather-like thing.
<<<>>>
*Crash*
A giant bolt of deep-purple lightning struck the cracked third barrier, destroying it instantly as many more Spirit Affinity House's disciples suffered terrible backlash, some outright dying, never to appear again.
If these disciples thought they were dying for real, they did not let it curb their lust and excitement for battle. Their fears did not stop the dying disciples from leaving their gu worms for their sect sisters and brothers.
Shu Zhe quietly gritted her teeth but made no move.
The attacks continued. The disciples of the four-sect alliance showed some weakness. A number of disciples lost their gu worms and use. However, they were eventually pulled back as they set up… temporary tents and camps.
'They brought more supply, of course.'
Shu Zhe felt helpless.
The cracks on the second barrier accumulated, but no elder from the four directions moved this time. Sighing internally, Shu Zhe made her move. She couldn't let this barrier disappear in vain.
*Voom*
The cracks in the barrier glowed brightly, bathing all the disciples on the outside before exploding outwards with such immensity that most rank 4 defensive gu worms were outright destroyed. The enemy disciples' bodies didn't last for a single breath before breaking apart under extreme heat and pressure, their screams drowned by the cruel flash of light.
Silence.
For one second, silence consumed the surrounding regions as a smooth crater spread outwards from the Blue Saint Fog Camp's first barrier—its only remaining barrier.
"Hmph!"
"Couldn't sit still, huh?"
"Elder Shu Zhe is indeed ferocious despite her calm exterior."
"Just die!"
Four elders took to the sky, their intentions clear.
They were wary of such an attack in the first place, wanting to initially use the beasts as the fodder of dealing with it. However, Shu Zhe's methods left them shaken and apprehensive.
Hum Dum created a gigantic skeleton from gusts of green wind, allowing it to hold two weapons, a sickle and a scythe. He was sometimes called the Wind Sickle, and at times the Wind Scythe. It was due to this killer move.
Another elder from before charged her body with deep-purple lightning. She appeared like liquid plasma itself, glowing divinely and becoming the center of attention.
The gigantic eagle screeched and flapped its wings, creating forceful gusts that reached the smoothened crater, raising a conspicuous dust cloud.
Lastly, the elder from Black Heaven Temple waved his hands, causing the ground beneath him to rumble. Light brown qi rose from the ground. It looked slightly turbid and emitted a sense of heaviness. This qi turned into a tiny, brown-colored ball floating around that elder. Among all the killer moves, Shu Zhe sensed the most danger from this inconspicuous glowing ball not even the size of human skull.
The disciples began appearing on the crater, their expressions shaken. The recollection of being obliterated to their tiniest bits left them momentarily disoriented.
So, they grew rightly confused.
As did the disciples within the camp.
"What is that sound?"
"You can hear it, too?"
"Hmm? Look, over there! I saw something… I think."
"It's too dark! Damn!"
Many disciples lost their gu worms, including their investigation gu worms. Meanwhile, the elders specialized in offense and relied on their scouts. They momentarily turned their attention to these scouts to investigate the source of this noise.
It was a sharp whistling noise.
The sound of someone cutting through air itself.
Something that left wind screeching and disintegrated the clouds with a mere graze.
And the sound disappeared.
*Pah*
The elder from Black Heaven Temple exploded into blood mist!
The brown orb of turbid qi lost its control, expanding uncontrollably until it was five times the size of the camp, taking out several shocked disciples right underneath the spot where the previous elder floated.
The next second, the elder was revived in midair. But how could he continue flying without appropriate gu worms?
He plunged to his death again!
"What is going on?! Investigate!"
"Recover as much as you can."
Shu Zhe's voice snapped her disciples out of their daze as she watched the three elders command their scouts to—
*Puff*
The conspicuously glowing female elder from Heaven's Envy Manor also experienced the same death before falling to her death again.
"Seniors, use these gu worms!"
One of the scouts succeeded. It was only a matter of time.
Hum Dum's eyes widened the second he used a gu worm capable of seeing through objects. He was met with a wild grin that didn't reach those cruel and disinterested brown eyes. He saw a wild man.
Even Hum Dum was killed, the wind apparition behind him fizzling out.
*Chii*
The hill-sized eagle let out a proud cry before flapping his wings and flying straight at a figure materializing before everyone's view.
He seemed shorter in comparison. Strands of short brown hair flew wildly as powerful gusts of wind struck him.
*Slick*
*Slick*
*Slick*
*Slick*
His skin split apart in many regions, forming into slightly deeper scratches.
His clothes, not fashioned from gu worms, barely held on. The upper tunic tore apart, barely dangling from his body. However, he maintained his altitude, the pair of crimson bat wings flapping steadily.
Compared to the eagle, he was minuscule. His entire body was barely the same size as the eagle's fierce eyes!
"What are you chirping about, Little Bird?"
He pulled his fist back…
And punched.
