"Now. Coming to the reason why you are here?"
George Senior's chest rose and fell. His fingers gripped the armrest. "I switched her at birth with someone."
The words hung in the air like smoke.
Delvin's jaw tightened. George Junior's head snapped toward his father, eyes wide.
George Senior kept talking, until the dam broke. He spilled everything—dates, places, the hospital room, the two crying infants. His voice cracked on certain words, and on others, very calm.
Delvin leaned forward, elbows on his knees. His pulse quickened. This wasn't what he'd expected. He'd thought the Parkers might know who Jasmine really was. Some kind of hidden lineage, perhaps a clue. But this? They had no idea. They'd raised someone else's child, believing she was theirs.
George Junior sat frozen. His mouth wide open, dizzied with a shock. A vein pulsed at his temple.
"You switched her with who?"
Delvin's voice cut through the tension.
