Chapter 746, Obvious Targeting
After answering, the corpse fell back.
Wu Heng used the human-skin mask to record the face, just in case it was needed later.
Then he ordered the skeleton to throw the corpse out.
At that moment, Jeffrey returned from outside. "Sir, all supplies have been delivered to the warehouse. They're being inventoried now."
"Alright, the rest is up to you. Let me know if anything comes up."
"Yes, sir."
...…
After Jeffrey left, Wu Heng remained seated.
The fortress had been taken, and the news hadn't spread widely.
So far, things looked good.
Now it depended on the Second Prince's attitude.
Wu Heng intended to wait for the Guild to finish investigating Ekow Kingdom before continuing the advance.
But if the Second Prince started stirring up trouble, things could get messy.
"If I could find the Second Prince's location..."
"I might as well eliminate him first."
Wu Heng pondered, as Xiaoxiao and Beni flew back.
"What's going on? I heard gunfire," Xiaoxiao looked around curiously.
"There was a fight. Where were you two?"
"Checking out the wall repairs. Who was fighting?" Xiaoxiao asked.
"A Ekow Kingdom transport convoy," Wu Heng replied.
Xiaoxiao nodded, then asked, "What's a transport convoy?"
Beni explained softly, "A team that delivers supplies."
"Like express delivery."
"Well, that's not wrong."
Tap tap tap~!
As the three were chatting, footsteps came from upstairs.
The skeleton guarding the radio rushed down, pointing upstairs.
A message had come in.
Wu Heng stood and followed the skeleton to the radio room.
The notebook read: Master, we have something important to report. Please respond when you receive this.
Picking up the mic, Wu Heng asked, "Is someone looking for me?"
"Master, it's me, Minnie," Minnie's voice came through.
She was still by the radio.
"Minnie, what is it?" Wu Heng asked.
Minnie represented Gold-Silver Island.
Wu Heng began to consider what might have happened there.
Minnie said, "Master, Steward Sheila Grey is here. She'll speak with you."
"Wu Heng, Lord Saidu came to the island yesterday," Sheila Grey's voice said.
Saidu—the religious hero.
So he did visit the island.
"Well? Did he cause any trouble?" Wu Heng asked.
"No, not really. After arriving, he visited the expo, opera house, and a few famous island spots, then left in a hurry," Sheila Grey said softly.
Wu Heng was surprised.
"So that hero didn't care about a little necromancer like me. I was overthinking."
"Not exactly."
"Hmm?" Wu Heng raised a brow.
"Before leaving, he had someone purchase the building you designated for mage research and is now converting it into a church," Sheila Grey said seriously.
A church!
On a necromancer-run island?
That was even more insidious than finding fault.
"Tell me everything that happened," Wu Heng said.
"Alright," Sheila Grey recounted the events after Saidu came ashore.
They toured the island briefly, and just as Sheila Grey and the others thought he was simply visiting and preparing to leave—
He bought a central district property and left people there to renovate it into a church.
Wu Heng didn't speak, sitting in deep thought.
They didn't search or inspect anything—they built a church instead.
Something was off~!
He was a hero, with more tools and abilities.
He might've already scanned the island and, finding nothing, decided to use the church to monitor it constantly.
Very likely.
"Sorry, I should've been firmer or had City Hall refuse to sell the property," Sheila Grey said, feeling guilty.
Everything happened so fast—by the time she reacted, Saidu had left as a beam of light.
There was no time to stop him.
Wu Heng snapped out of his thoughts and said, "It's not your fault. If he wanted to do this, you couldn't have stopped him. If the house wasn't sold, he'd just come up with another plan. At least now, we know his intentions."
He was a hero. His authority far surpassed the locals'.
Even if Sheila Grey refused, he would've found another way—possibly in secret.
Sheila Grey asked, "What should we do now?"
"How long will building the church take?" Wu Heng asked.
"Not sure. I heard the statue and other decorations need to be shipped from the cathedral. It might take a while," she replied.
"No worries. Let them decorate however they want. As long as they don't cause trouble, we'll leave them be," Wu Heng said plainly.
"Understood," Sheila Grey replied.
"Yes, Master," Andviel's voice came through as well.
So they were all listening.
Wu Heng asked, "What do the regular residents think of the Church landing on the island?"
Sheila Grey answered, "Not much. Most natives just stay neutral and avoid offending anyone."
Just as Wu Heng expected.
Gold-Silver Island was a pirate haven. Not becoming a cult was already good.
A real Church believer couldn't be a pirate.
"That works. The Church has no foundation here." Wu Heng continued, "Anything else going on?"
"No. Everything's fine. Since the hero appeared, even the thieves and warlocks fled overnight," Sheila Grey said.
Wu Heng was surprised. "Didn't expect that."
"Yeah. I doubt wanted criminals will come here for a while," she laughed.
That made sense.
Even if not openly stated, a necromancer-run island wasn't seen as particularly lawful.
Some fringe professions or fugitives might check it out.
But with a Church hero showing up—regardless of whether people knew he was a hero—those many Church elites would scare them off.
"Makes sense," Wu Heng nodded.
Sheila Grey added, "That's all for now. We'll follow your instructions and ignore them for now."
"Yes. Let's wait and see how it plays out," Wu Heng confirmed.
"When will you be back?" This time it was Shiyali's voice.
Wu Heng calculated. "In a few days. If nothing comes up, I'll return."
"I've learned a few new dishes. I'll let you try them."
"Alright."
They chatted a bit more and ended the call.
...…
Wu Heng remained seated, thinking over what Sheila Grey said.
The Church definitely had it in for him.
A level-20 hero visiting in person and establishing a church.
That level of targeting was obvious.
Religious heroes…
Can't kill them, no reason to fight them—what a headache.
"He's a hero. But there are other heroes in the Guild too," Wu Heng muttered.
He did have some connections in headquarters.
Vampire Lord Lilith. Grand Literary Society head Claudio.
Could he win their support?
"If necessary, I could ask those two to back me. At least they could counterbalance him."
"Once I reach level 20, maybe things will turn."
"That old geezer… such a schemer!"
"Uncle, what's an old geezer?" Xiaoxiao floated nearby.
Uh…
Glenda and Beni looked at him too.
"It's not a nice word. Don't repeat it," Wu Heng said.
"Is it a curse?"
"Kind of." Wu Heng stood and stretched. "Let's go to the Zombie World. Time to level up Beni. Strength is what really matters."
"Yeah! One day we'll storm Guild HQ!"
"Let your Aunt Glenda handle that. It'd be too dangerous for us."
"Boring," Glenda rolled her eyes and entered her body.
Xiaoxiao and Beni followed.
Wu Heng opened the portal and stepped inside.
...…
On the other side, he emerged in the inn he'd chosen.
No need to clean—another convoy would come to scavenge.
Wu Heng released the ghosts and walked out the front door.
Outside, skeletons densely surrounded the area.
Xiaoxiao said, "Uncle, the convoy is looting supplies over there."
"Ignore them. We're moving forward to clear more zombies."
Then, he ordered the commanding Big Head Skeleton, "Go. Keep advancing."
Clatter~!
The skeletons mobilized, continuing forward.
They pressed on.
Once past the cleared zone, scattered zombies began to appear.
"Skeleton hounds, draw them in."
The skeleton hounds dashed forward.
As they neared, the zombie horde took notice and surged like a wave.
The Soul Capture Jade activated. Zombies crashed into the skeleton army.
Battle erupted.
Soul fragments floated skyward.
Beni flew out and began devouring them.
...…
Dusk fell.
The battle neared its end.
Beni had reached three-fifths toward level 19. Two more hordes would probably be enough.
Skeletons cleaned the battlefield. Wu Heng gathered corpse cores and began converting more skeletons.
With night falling—
He picked a nearby shop, had skeletons guard it.
Then returned to the other world.
...…
Serted Fortress.
Wu Heng came downstairs.
In the hall, a figure sat on a chair, studying a document.
Black tailored butler's outfit, white shirt underneath.
Long hair neatly tied into an elegant bun. Occasionally adjusting black-rimmed glasses on the nose.
Hearing footsteps, they looked up.
"Master!" the butler stood and bowed slightly.
