Chapter 128 - Chapter 127: Hyuga Sniper Unit

The rhythmic thud-thud-thud of boots rippled across the battlefield.

Wind rushed through the flags bearing Konoha's symbol — the red swirl dancing in the dawn haze.

Ahead of them, at the front of the marching column, Namikaze Mirai stood upon an elevated ridge, his azure cloak flickering in the wind like a phantom flame. His gaze stretched far into the horizon, where sunlight glimmered faintly on the forests of the Land of Fire.

A scout knelt before him, head bowed, voice taut.

"Hokage-sama, we've confirmed sightings from the eastern monitoring station. Iwagakure and Kumogakure forces have entered the Land of Fire. The two villages seem to have… joined hands."

The atmosphere around Mirai's command tent immediately froze.

Jōnin and chūnin who were nearby turned toward the scout. Even the rustle of their flak jackets ceased.

Kumogakure and Iwagakure — sworn enemies — uniting?

That was something the world had not seen since the age of Senju Hashirama.

Mirai's lips curved slightly, his expression unreadable.

"Is that so?"

The kneeling scout continued, "Yes. Such large-scale movement could not be hidden from our sensory units. It's certain they're advancing in full force, likely aware that we've already detected them."

"Numbers?" Mirai asked casually, as if inquiring about the weather.

"Between four and five thousand Iwagakure ninja, Hokage-sama. The Kumogakure has roughly two to three thousand more than them. Combined strength exceeds ten thousand ninjas!"

The silence that followed was deafening.

The jōnin officers who stood near the command ridge exchanged looks, each face hardening. Even veterans of the Third Great Ninja War found themselves drawing in a quiet, disbelieving breath. More than ten thousand shinobi. Two great villages—sworn enemies—marching as one? It was unthinkable. It was heresy against the balance of power that had defined the shinobi world for generations.

But Namikaze Mirai… merely smiled.

He exhaled slowly, gaze fixed beyond the mist. His expression was calm — no tension, no hesitation. Only the faint, eerie gleam of someone who had foreseen this very storm long before it arrived.

"Iwagakure and the Kumogakure…" he murmured. "The moment we broke the chains of the Daimyō, I knew this would come."

He turned slightly, the wind tugging at his hair. "Prepare for battle."

A faint trace of madness glinted in his eyes — the kind that burned like lightning on a calm night.

"Only such enemies," he said softly, "are worthy of being the stepping stones for the new world."

The jōnin nearest him felt a chill course down their spines. The Fifth Hokage wasn't joking.

Far to the west, the great combined army of the Iwagakure–Kumogakure Alliance thundered across the roads of the Land of Fire like a moving continent.

Thirteen thousand shinobi.

The sheer density of their chakra clouded the air like smoke. Birds fled the forests; rivers trembled under the weight of their march. From above, they looked like an ink-black tide spilling over a green map.

Their objective was clear — the Capital of the Land of Fire.

"Konoha's goal is to destroy the Daimyō's power." one Iwagakure officer muttered grimly to his companion as they marched. "Then ours, naturally, is to protect it."

Even if the Daimyō was already dead, as some whispers claimed, it didn't matter. If they could seize the capital and drive out Konoha, they could reinstall another noble, another puppet — and preserve the one-country, one-village order.

That was their mission. That was their reason for uniting despite hatred.

Among the mass of soldiers, Kitsuchi, son of the Third Tsuchikage, rode atop a rock platform drifting beside the column, his face set in grim focus. His massive frame looked like a mountain moving among men.

To his right, the Fourth Raikage Ai strode at the head of his forces — cloak torn, chest bare, arms crossed, veins bulging beneath his skin.

The two forces were like oil and fire, trudging side by side.

'Strange.' Kitsuchi thought. 'We march through the Land of Fire so openly. Yet no interception. No traps. No ambushes. No resistance.'

His eyes narrowed.

At his side, he finally said aloud, "Raikage. Don't you think something's abnormal?"

"Abnormal?" Ai's rough voice barked out a laugh. "We've traveled this far without a single enemy. That's good, isn't it?"

Kitsuchi resisted the urge to sigh. 'That's exactly what's wrong, you muscle-headed fool.' he thought bitterly.

Kumogakure and Iwagakure had fought for decades; their blood feuds ran deeper than the mountain caverns of Iwa itself. Yet here they were, forced into cooperation for the sake of aristocrats. Even so, Kitsuchi couldn't stop himself from glancing with disdain at the man beside him. The Raikage might be strong — but subtlety clearly wasn't his art.

"I suggest," Kitsuchi said carefully, "we halt our advance temporarily. Send out vanguard squads to probe the frontlines — to confirm Konoha's position. Charging forward blind could—"

Ai's booming voice cut him off.

"Kitsuchi, you're just like your old man! Always cautious, always thinking. What's there to be afraid of? Ten thousand of us, and you're worried about a few thousand Konoha shinobi?"

Kitsuchi's jaw clenched.

He wanted to retort — to say that overconfidence had buried countless armies before — but he swallowed it. Arguing with the Raikage was like throwing stones at a beast. Pointless, and often fatal.

He took a breath. "Then may fortune favor us."

"Fortune?" Ai smirked, eyes flashing. "Fortune doesn't win wars. Power does."

The army pressed on.

Hours later, the landscape shifted.

Ahead rose a wide plateau — a natural bottleneck that overlooked the road to the capital. Sparse trees lined the slope, their branches creaking in the wind.

The vanguard crested the first rise. The path seemed empty.

Nothing moved.

No sound except the wind.

Neither Kitsuchi nor the Raikage realized that the hill was alive with eyes.

Hundreds of white-eyed Hyuga lay prone among the brush, motionless as stones. Veins bulged faintly at the corners of their temples, their Byakugan glowing faintly like pearls beneath the grass.

Each Hyuga held in their arms a sleek, metallic rifle — not of Daimyō design, but Konoha's latest experimental weapons, engineered under Namikaze Mirai's own supervision. Their barrels gleamed with chakra-conductive alloy; blue seals flickered faintly near the trigger guards.

This was the Hyuga Sniper Unit — Mirai's creation.

Under his leadership, the ancient Gentle Fist had been reshaped into something new: a hybrid of chakra precision and modern firepower.

Byakugan, long hailed as the eye of perception, even the weakest with training could see three kilometers ahead — but its users had always lacked a weapon to match that distance.

Mirai had given them one.

Firearms refined through countless prototypes.

Firing mechanisms infused with chakra current.

Each bullet carrying condensed blue chakra shells capable of piercing stone armor and lightning defense alike.

Where other nations still relied on kunai and hand seals, Konoha had taken a step into the future.

Hyuga Hiashi crouched at the forward edge, his white robe dirt-streaked, his expression calm as water.

Through his Byakugan, he could see everything — the endless black swarm of the alliance advancing through the valley, unaware that death awaited them.

Two kilometers.

One and a half.

One.

"Hold steady." Hiashi murmured.

The entire ridge exhaled as one.

He could hear their heartbeats slow — each rhythm syncing with his own.

"Targets confirmed." His fingers lifted slightly.

The massive formation below marched in neat ranks.

Kitsuchi shouted orders.

Raikage Ai strode through the front line, chakra humming faintly across his shoulders.

'Now.'

"Fire!"

Hiashi's voice cut through the wind like a drawn blade.

Bang!Bang!Bang!

The entire hillside erupted in flashing blue.

The chakra rifles sang in unison, their muzzles spitting arcs of blue fire. In that instant, hundreds of bullets streaked through the air like threads of lightning, descending in sheets of death.

The sound tore through the morning sky — tat-tat-tat! — the rhythm of thunder made mechanical.

Below, the alliance troops froze for a split second, confused.

Then the first line erupted in red.

Blood geysered from a hundred bodies at once. The front formation crumpled; screams rose, echoing between the trees.

The bullets tore through armor and flesh alike — no hand seals, no warning, just instant annihilation.

"Enemy attack!"

"Enemy attack!!"

The shouts multiplied, overlapping, panicked.

Kitsuchi's eyes went wide, heart lurching.

"Defensive wall! Raise defense!" he roared, forming rapid earth seals.

Dozens of Iwa-nin followed suit — but it was too late.

Before chakra could even gather, another volley screamed down.

Tat-tat-tat!

More blood sprayed the mud. Ninja collapsed mid-step, clutching at holes where lungs had been. Those who tried to counter with jutsu found their seals disrupted mid-formation as their arms exploded under the relentless hail.

The Fourth Raikage's eyes widened — even he, the man known for his unmatched reflexes, barely traced the incoming blue streaks.

"What in—?!" He leapt forward, chakra flaring into his Lightning Armor, deflecting the bullets that reached him, but his men weren't so lucky. The battlefield was chaos — confusion and carnage layered atop each other.

"There's no one here!" Ai shouted furiously, lightning sparking across his shoulders. "No chakra signatures within range! Where did these attacks come from?!"

The storm of bullets continued, echoing through the hills like rolling thunder.

Up above, the Hyuga Sniper Unit reloaded in fluid motion — not one wasted movement. The Byakugan guided every trigger pull.

Targets, distance, trajectory — everything was laid bare before their eyes.

Hiashi calmly raised his arm once more.

"Second volley." he said quietly. "Fire."

The hillside flared blue again.

And below, the alliance army of thirteen thousand met the future of Konoha.
