Being dragged by Dr Goult my mind is running back what he just said "Jake". Turning around as the door shuts I turn to face him as he looks straight "What did you say to me?" I ask. "did you not hear me?" he replies almost rhetorically. That one sentence is making me doubt myself now, could I be making it all up, we have been discussing him a lot recently. No, no. I definitely heard it. "You said, And i'm sure you do as well Jake" Finally turning around he faces me, eyes meeting eyes. My jaw tightening as the elevator hums. "I say what I know". My hands clench as my mind I start feeling irritated at this answers, how ambiguous they are. "And what is that meant to mean?" Seeing him, fully relaxed standing like that, it irks me for some reason as I begin to notice my breathing accelerate. "If you want to have this discussion we can, just not know. We have something to do" Dr Goult finishes sternly. Knowing I won't get anymore answers all I say back is "Soon" seeing him nod I get ready for the hand at task as my mind is still in turmoil.
Rose has just left the lab as everyone gathers round the computer on Dr Goult's request. "Doing some extra tests I think we can make an antidote, however we need someone to test it on" he mutters smoothly. "That's barbaric, have you lost your mind" Mr Collin's states aggravated. "I will do it" Will utters barely a whisper. The room turns to him as he feels the weight of the words he just said, why would he say it, even he doesn't know. Maybe to discover, to help more? "Let's get started then this shouldn't take long for the first batch" Dr Goult says. Mr Collin's lets out an audible sight "Fine, although I whole heartedly disagree an antidote would be beneficial, injection wouldn't work as we would need to subdue them first, same with oral. Our best shot is implementing it into a gas form for them to inhale. Like a smoke bomb" The room murmurs in agreement as they begin making the first batch.
That took a lot out of me, I feel drained. Wait. How can we even mimic the effects of the injection onto me. "Dr Goult, how can we even use the antidote if I don't have the effects of the injection?" I ask aloud. "Simple, we inject you with the DNA samples, shown through our tests the DNA now carries the injection which means it would in theory be passed down to future generations. The injection was meant for a recurring braindead military" That is slightly disgusting, having someone's DNA injected into me. "I will go tell Rose first, I will be back shortly" Leaving the room I walk past everyone seeing them nod at me as I make my way to the control room.
Entering the room Will feels a strange emotion, confusion. Why is Rose just staring out the window, maybe she is just overwhelmed with it all. He walks towards her speaking "Rose, i'm going to be testing an antidote for the injection, I just thought to let you know" he finishes. Rose's face is a blank canvas, once full of life and enjoyment now just blank and monotonous with her one reply "Ok". Wondering to himself about the reply Will leaves it giving her shoulder a squeeze noticing her tense up he leaves it. "I will be back soon"
Reaching the laboratory a lot of emotions are running through my mind right now. But one thing before I do this task. "Dr Goult, can we have a moment outside" I state aloud seeing the looks of confusion, but understanding from Dr Goult. Watching him walk over I hold the door open as it slowly closes behind us. "I suppose this is about what I said" He says. "Yes, what did you mean, what could I possibly have to do with that man?" I reply as my jaw tightens again in frustration remembering the elevator. "Do this, and you might find out if I am correct, if so. God help us all" he states eerily walking back into the room.
Laying onto a table Will feels the injection run through his body as excruciating pain hits him as his scream and lashes out. Rose watching through surveillance only watches as a single tear drops down her face. "Next is the antidote, it will fill the room in a tasteless invisible odour. be prepared for anything" Will hears someone say. Barely hearing the door shut he inhales sharply as daggers hit his throat as his mind goes into turmoil.
Bodies hitting the floor in a building as people try run away, someone jumping through a window. Meeting someone at an auction, discussing art. Travelling between cities and settlements on business. Walking throughout a laboratory doing research on the human genome and the influence of emotions and drugs. Massive reports being sent to the government. Voices, so many voices begging for mercy. Shots being fired. Bodies being studied. Feeling nothing, absolutely nothing, only accomplishing what he was assigned. Fragments, not piecing together, seeming like another life. "We need you to make an injection for the military for the rebellion we are planning" A voice laughs from a seat, others surrounding him.
I sit up clawing my throat in pain as my body feels to be fine, I hope. Trying to process what just happened. It all comes back to one man. Dr Jake Wilson.
