It's the Last Audit.
At these words, the innocent ones rejoiced silently, their rescue had finally arrived.
No one moved. Guilty or not, nobody dared resist. Even if they wanted to run, they knew they wouldn't get far. So everyone stayed exactly where they were, holding their breath, hoping that whatever they had done in the past hadn't been enough to make them a target, and hoping even more that they carried nothing of value that might let The Last Audit take an interest in them.
Everyone remained frozen. Everyone except two people.
Martha had already left the counter.
She rushed toward the naked woman who had been used as Lucan's table, her body slick with blood. She grabbed whatever cloth she could find and tried to stope the bleeding.
At the same time, Lucan: "Who is it?!"
He thrashed around, clutching his bloodied arms.
"Show yourself!"
No answer came, and not a single person in the bar dared to speak.
