As Jhago launched forward once more, I felt something different this time. His once fluid and powerful strides now faltered, each of his movement labored as if the very earth clung stubbornly to his hooves. The plains stretched out endlessly before us, their golden grasses rippling in the low-hanging sun, but they offered no comfort to us. Only more emptiness, more distance and more pain. My hands clenched more tightly around Jhago's mane, the palm of my hands saturated with sweat, as I hunched forward, trying to become one with his desperate faltering rhythm.
