Leo's eyes moved across her face slowly. He looked at the curve of her cheek, the way her chest rose and fell with each breath, the way her fingers rested lightly on the blanket.
He had been thinking about something for a while now. A choice he had been turning over in his mind, thinking about it carefully, wondering if it was the right thing to do. He had not told anyone, not even her. And now, watching her sleep so peacefully, he felt a strange nervousness in his heart.
Was he making the right choice?
Would she be happy?
Or would she think he had gone too far without asking her opinion?
He did not know. For the first time in a long time, Leo felt unsure.
His hand moved slowly, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. The touch was so light that she did not stir. He let his fingers rest there for a moment.
"I hope I'm doing the right thing," he whispered, his voice very soft. "I hope... this will make you happy."
He stopped, his jaw tightening a little.
