Cam woke up and checked his stat page.
+1 strength
+1 constitution
+1 regen
Excited at the gains that seemed to surpass years of training in a single day he rushed to his computer to find other ways to train his other stats.
To start he googled it trying to see if anyone had figured anything out. Some posts were about coups in third world countries happening overnight, but most were on theory's about the system and how everyone is gonna die. After browsing for a little while he noticed a post about someone meditating and gaining stat points in spirit. Another post about a guy reading informative texts and solving puzzles gaining intelligence. Or another where a gymnast has gained stats in agility by stretching, flexing, and doing acrobatic flips.
Heading downstairs to meet his family for breakfast Cam mentioned his findings to his family stating that if they're gonna be split up by a godlike entity they'd be better off getting the best start possible.
Nodding in agreement the family hastily finished their food. "We need to go buy enough food for a month" said his father in between bites. "We only have enough for this week if we're gonna be training like we are. This reminds me of when we I in Florida for the strongest man title. We bought a whole damn cow!" His father laughed as he finished his plate.
Cam looked up from his finished plate and said "Apparently America is still running . Even though everyone is scared, they still have to make enough money to live. Although some stores have already closed because too many people aren't showing up ."
His father nodded "it will probably get worse once everyone realizes that the stats increase as fast as they do. Cam let's go pick up some groceries before the stores get bought out, or worse."
Standing and hugging her husband his mother and brother told them to be safe and they left quickly, the father opting to carry a revolver just incase. Heading out of the apartment and into the quiet hallway that held the elevator they both got in and chose the parking garage. Getting into a brand new diesel truck that his father had gotten from sponsorship deals, the father and son took off heading for the nearest grocery store.
Strangely enough when exiting the parking lot into the rays of sunlight and shadow casted by the high rise towers, the city hadn't changed a bit. Cars still drove by, traffic still sucked, and people still mindlessly walked to their jobs. Pulling out into the street they drove for 20 minutes to reach the nearest grocery store, which had only 7 people running it. Walking in to the slightly busy store cam and his father both grabbed a cart and started shopping. Hustling through the process they had enough food in their carts to feed them for more than a single month.
*Bang*
The clap of a gunshot fired off. Cams head instantly snapped to where the sound went off and saw a man in dirty clothes and an unwashed beard standing over a man who stood next to a shopping cart bleeding out of his neck. Staring at the homeless man who had just murdered someone in broad daylight everyone started moving to get away. But while everyone else was in chaos, cam watched as the homeless man euphorically smiled while staring off into space. Then he looked towards everyone else and started shooting. 'He must be looking at his system screen.' Cam thought while being hoisted to his dads truck.
As soon as Kai had seen the man smile he grabbed cam by the arm, pushed the shopping carts toward the truck and yanked his son towards the truck nearly throwing the boy.
Hustling to the truck cam still watched the homeless man as his euphoria faded and started looking for more people. Stepping over the body of the man he'd just killed he pointed his 9mm at the nearest person. Cam and his father.
On instinct and mostly fear, cam grabbed his father and activated his innate skill. The bullet that would have pierced through the back of his skull flattened against his hair. His body unmoving. Three more thunderclaps rang out as the man impatiently shot at the boy and his father. Kai realizing his son had just been shot pulled out his own gun, and fired back at the homeless man. Unable to move his son while his skill was in use he shot through all 6 rounds.
Only one had hit the other man in the leg. Blowing right through the homeless man's right shin. However every single shot the homeless man had made landed directly on cam. 3 had stuck his skull and 4 had struck directly over his heart.
Having been hit the homeless man fell over, holding his leg in agony. Releasing the tension in his muscles cam looked at his father to see if he was alright. His father looked fine at first, but had blood dripping out of his left thigh. Although it felt like the gunfight had lasted forever, it had only been 15 seconds.
Adrenaline spiked through everyone in the parking lot.
Police sirens sounded out coming closer and closer.
Cams father looked at his son to make sure he was alright before beinggently helped to the car. Once his father had a makeshift tourniquet over his thigh cam rushed off toward the homeless man. Righteous anger flowing through him he ran towards the man. Fumbling for the gun he had dropped in pain he raised it and fired, however cams momentum had already started. Jumping and flexing his skill he be came a deliverer of the people's elbow. Bullets tore through his shirt but harmlessly bounced off his body, leaving small red marks where they landed. The homeless man in his hysteria never thought to move from the massive elbow coming directly for his head.
*slam*
The man's head instantly crushed under the heavy and unmoving flesh. The concrete cracking around the impact. Picking himself up 4 cop cars rounded the corner before getting out and aiming high powered rifles at him.
"Put your hands up!"
Following commands the cops had given him he put his hands up and waited for them to cuff him. As soon as they did Kai had finally managed to limp his way around his truck before the police saw him and tended to his leg.
A chime rang off in both their heads, but the adrenaline rush had faded and they hadn't noticed it.
Hours later after an agonizing and stressful ride in the cop car, multiple scannings, and a room full of criminals. Cam finally ended up in an interrogation room.
'This shits so weird' the detective thought as he walked towards the 19th interrogation today. Looking down at the notes he sighed. 'He's only 17, should be easy. Get in get out.' As he grabbed the handle to open the door he sighed, took a deep breath, straightened his back, and walked in confidently.
The kid, who could barely be described as such sat there nervously. Tapping the table with his oversized hands, his black hair wet with sweat and his green eyes darting like he wasn't meant to be here. His shirt ripped near his left pec in what seemed like bullet sized holes.
"You alright?" The detective asked
Cam-"Yes"
'Lie' a whisper said to the detective
Detective-"Are you sure you're not hurt anywhere?"
Cam-"I'm not hurt anywhere, where's my dad, is he alright?"
'Truth' the voice gave the detective goosebumps.
Detective- "he'll be fine. I just need to ask some questions. How did you end up in a gunfight with a homeless man?"
After telling him all the details besides what powers him and his father held. The detective nodded. Flinching slightly every time the voice said truth.
"After I elbow dropped him the cops showed up. Is the first guy he shot alive?" Cam said
Looking at his hands resting on the table the detective said " I don't know for sure"
'Lie' the voice whisperer in his ear. ' I'm not tellin some kid about somebody that died, it's not what I'm paid to do.'
After a brief pause the detective stood up and sighed. "Alright let me complete some paperwork and you'll be released." Taking a few steps to the door he continued. "Your father is currently in the hospital and is in stable condition. we'll get you a ride so don't worry."
15 minutes later Cam was released and given a ride to the hospital. By the time he had arrived his family was already walking out. His mom by his side helping him out and his little brother right behind them. Apparently they were overwhelmed and since his father was showing rapid healing and nothing was wrong they were released. Walking towards where their truck had been left sirens were ringing out constantly. Soon enough another ambulance pulled up and a gou
