~Amelia~
I was in the kitchen minding my own business, tea, crackers, the baby doing her usual morning gymnastics against my ribs when his mother walked in.
My first thought was: so this is how it ends.
My second thought was: I should have eaten more of those crackers while I had the chance.
She stopped at the doorway when she saw me, and for a second neither of us moved. Then she politely asked, "Could I speak with you? Just us."
No Kaden to step in front of me if she decided today was the day she finally said everything she'd been holding back since I showed up and disrupted her entire life plan. I looked at the door behind her like it might save me.
"Sure," I swallowed hard.
I texted Kaden under the table, “your mom wants to talk to me alone. If I don't text you in 20 minutes send help.”
He appeared in the doorway approximately thirty seconds later.
